God our Father, make us joyful in the Ascenion of Your Son Jesus Christ. May we follow Him into the new creation, for His Ascension is our glory and our hope. We ask this through our Lord Jesus Christ, Your Son, Who lives and reigns with You and the Holy Spirit, one God, forever. Amen. Treasury of Novenas
Third Day of Consistory: Most of the Cardinals remain mum
On the surface ecumenism and changing of the Papacy downplayed as Vatican spokesman and a few cardinals play up Family and Holiness
With the close of the three-day meeting, the Cardinals await the Papal Mass today after hearing a summary of the proposals presented by the Princes of the Church before the Holy Father last night by Mexico's Cardinal Juan Sandoval Iñíguez. On Wednesday all were tightlipped save for a few. As they met in private groupings, it was left to Vatican spokesman Joaquin Navarro-Valls to spin some of the key points, playing down the controversial issues and emphasizing family and the call to holiness, as confirmed by retired Cardinal Ersilio Tonini who gave a special interview to ZENIT.

Hope is where the Heartbeat is
"Heartbeat International is an interdenominational Christian association of life-affirming pregnancy resource centers, medical clinics, maternity homes, and nonprofit adoption agencies that seek to create an environment where every human heart is cherished and protected - within the womb and within strong families. Please note that, like Pro Life Communications, they are an interdenominational organization, operated by mostly Catholic individuals."
Today Joe Dalton introduces the reader to Heartbeat International one of the oldest pro-life organizations that pre-dates Roe vs. Wade. Heartbeat International gets right to the heart of the matter - love for the soul and love for the person: the pregnant mother and the innocent, precious child in her womb. This love and giving is exhibited in every volunteer which radiates over their vast network of carers practicing the Corporal Acts of Mercy and carried out in the most loving way that would make Mother Teresa proud. 6th Precept of the Church
"To observe the laws of the Church concerning Marriage"
"What therefore God has joined together, let no man put asunder"
Today in our 229th installment of our catechetical series on My Catholic Faith we cover the Sixth Commandment of the Church, "To observe the laws of the Church concerning Marriage". There is much to cover in this and so will be spread over three installments. Today there are so many misconceptions about the stringent rules of the Sacrament of Holy Matrimony. Many are under the false assumption that if it doesn't work out they can walk out and just get an annulment. They forget Our Lord's binding words in Matthew 19: 6, "What therefore God has joined together, let no man put asunder." Today many cohabitate or are separated and date others and still think they can go to Holy Communion on Sundays. Wrong! The problem is many pastors are afraid to hurt feelings and once again they fail in their mission. Rather than pleasing God, they seek to please man by appeasing him. For part one on the Sixth Precept of the Church, see APPRECIATING THE PRECIOUS GIFT OF OUR FAITH.
So many times we haven't a clue, but with God He will provide all the answers!
That was the heart of Pope John Paul II's General Papal Audience this past Wednesday in Paul VI Hall as reported by the ZENIT News Agency. The basis of his catechesis was based on Psalm 149 in which he emphasized how those who choose to follow God, the humble, will be persecuted, "Because they choose to be morally good, they suffer violence and rejection. In the New Testament Saint Paul too refers to God's special love for such people: 'God chose what is low and despised in the world, even things that are not, to bring to nothing things that are.'" The Holy Father concluded by emphasizing that "the song of Mary in the Gospel of Luke - the 'Magnificat' - is the echo of the best sentiments of the 'sons of Zion': joyful praise to God the Savior, gratitude for the great things done for her by the Almighty, battle against the forces of evil, solidarity with the poor, faithfulness to the God of the Alliance."

OPEN LETTER TO HIS HOLINESS
An Urgent Plea to Pope John Paul II, 264th Successor of Peter: Please do not change the Papacy as the modernists would want, but leave it intact as Christ instructed in Matthew 16: 17-19.
In concert with the on-going Extraordinary Consistory of Cardinals convened by Pope John Paul II, we present the fourth part of an Urgent Plea to His Holiness not to change the Papacy no matter how much pressure is put on him. We urge you to read it with a discerning heart and on this Solemnity of the Ascension pray that the Holy Spirit will guide you in reading this respectful, but honest plea, and guide the Princes of the Church as they return to their respective sees, and guide the Keeper of the Keys to keep intact the Primacy of Peter. This is published with permission. It was compiled by Atila Sinke Guimarães, Michael J. Matt, Dr. Marian Horvat and John Vennari. Guimarães, a Brazilian scholar, has been researching this subject matter for twenty years and knows whereof he speaks. The authors back everything up with undeniable truths in their documentation. For part four of this Open Letter to His Holiness, see PLEASE PRESERVE THE PRIMACY OF PETER
Bishop James Hoffman: We implore you to call Ohio Congresswoman Marcy Kaptur to task for her fence-sitting, sorrowful pro-abort stance.
Today's Herod's Hero is the Democratic Representative in the United States House from Ohio's 9th District, the Honorable Marcy Kaptur. There's nothing honorable about how she, as a 'Catholic,' has promoted the culture of death. We call on her to repent and for her Bishop in Toledo Bishop James R. Hoffman along with Kaptur's shepherd in Washington D.C. Cardinal Theodore McCarrick, to issue the ultimatum of the "Bell, Book, and Candle" if she will not hear even the Church. We beg of the Bishops, to stand up for the Roman Catholic Church, to exact the discipline all Catholics are expected to follow. By Kaptur's lukewarm 55% pro-abortion record during 10 terms in the House, she has shown a an alarming consistency to turn away from God by showing disdain for Catholic doctrine and being a willing accomplice to satan. We implore Miss Kaptur to amend her ways, to turn away from embracing the pro-abort stance with so little sensitivity and mercy for the lives of millions of unborn. For another betrayer who seeks to perpetuate the culture of death and slay the innocents, see HEROD'S HEROES
"Thus it is written; and thus the Christ should suffer, and should rise again from the dead on the third day; and that repentance and remission of sins should be preached in His name to all nations, beginning in Jerusalem. And you yourselves are witnesses of these things. And I send forth upon you the promise of My Father. But wait here in the city, until you are clothed with power from on high." Luke 24: 46-49

The Holy Face indelibly etched in Linen
On this date three years ago His Holiness John Paul II made a special pilgrimage visit to the Shroud of Turin, Italy to pray and honor the venerable Shroud of Turin on special display there. It is strongly believed to be the linens that wrapped the precious body of Our Lord while He lay in the tomb. Even though scientists and detractors have tried to debunk it, carbon-dated tests of the shroud and special DNA tests show it from the time of Jerusalem and fiber indigenous to that area. The Shroud was preserved from a fire that badly damaged the church in Turin several years ago. It was on display again last year during the Jubilee.

Real regret is not finding God again after one has lost Him!
"A man refrains from adultery because of the love he has for his wife. This principle of love militates against his carnal desires and, if he falls, pulls him back again to fidelity. So with grace. As St. Paul wrote to the pagan Romans: 'I don't understand my own actions, because instead of doing what I want to do I do what I hate. Now if I don't want to do the very thing that I actually do, then I agree with the Law that it is, in fact, good' (Romans 7: 15-16). That is the point. The very regret one has is an admission that the law of God is right. A child told by his parents not to stick his finger in the fire does so. But he immediately discovers that their law was worthy of all honor. There are two ways of knowing how good God is. One is never to lose Him, the other is to lose Him and find Him again."
