On this day when we celebrate St. Joseph and the swallows' return to Capistrano, we pray to the Patron of the Universal Church for the return to the hallowed Traditions of Holy Mother Church

In our commentary today we introduce the new series below and outline how we can go about returning our beloved Church to her hallowed traditions that served her so well over the past two millenniums. We hold as the ideal for accomplishing this the many virtues of Saint Joseph and the saints who came after him. Their efforts were not in vain and if we fail to act today we will be saying they were. Do we want that on our consciences? For our editorial The trend away from Catholic Tradition is what's hard to swallow! see CATHOLIC PewPOINT

Vocations are in crisis, the Church is in crisis with the crisis caused by the criterion of the Am-Church

We introduce this series today in hopes of further alerting loyal Catholics to the travesties going on inside the Church and exposing the charlatans who are taking our beloved Church in a direction away from Rome, away from Christ's One, Holy, Catholic and Apostolic Church. Our first is a two-part installment by Robert Kumpel on what exactly is going on inside the Archdiocese of Los Angeles under the direction of Cardinal Roger Mahony. Is what the cardinal doing good for the Roman Catholic Church? You decide. Read, "Father, forgive them..."

Solemnity of the Feast of Saint Joseph

Today is the glorious Solemnity of SAINT JOSEPH, Foster Father of Jesus, Husband and Protector of the Blessed Virgin Mary, and Patron of the Universal Church. Tomorrow we return to the Lenten liturgy. For these liturgies, see Daily LITURGY

"So Joseph, arising from sleep, did as the angel of the Lord had commanded him, and took unto him his wife. And he did not know her till she she brought forth her firstborn son. And he called his name Jesus."    Matthew 1: 24-25

Memorare to Saint Joseph

Remember, most pure spouse of Mary ever Virgin, my loving protector Joseph, that never has it been heard that anyone invoked your protection or besought your aid without being consoled. In this confidence I come before you; I fervently recommend myself to you. Despise not my prayer, foster father of the Redeemer, but graciously deign to hear it. Amen.

Unmasking the myths of general absolution!

In his column today, Pat Ludwa details the criteria for when general absolution is allowed in dioceses and parishes. His source is direct from Cardinal Jorge Medina Estevez, Prefect for the Congregation for Divine Worship and the Discipline of the Sacraments. Too many parishes are deciding on their own how it should be done. If they're Roman Catholic parishes then they had better follow the norms the Church has set down. If they're Am-church, then the bishop will do whatever he darn well pleases and the parish councils will lead the way. For Pat's column, Clarifying the misconceptions of general absolution see VIEW FROM THE PEW

Cardinal Mahony: We implore you to call California Congressman Xavier Becerra to task for his pro-abortion stance.

Cardinal MahonyCardinal McCarrick   Today's "Herod's Hero" is the Democratic Congressman from the 30th District of California, which covers most of Los Angeles and Hollywood. We call on him to repent and for his shepherd in the Archdiocese of Los Angeles Cardinal Roger Mahony along with Cardinal Theodore McCarrick, Shepherd of the nation's capitol see, to issue the ultimatum of the "Bell, Book, and Candle" if Congressman Becerra will not hear even the Church. We beg of you, dear Bishops, to stand up for the Roman Catholic Church, to exact the discipline all Catholics are expected to follow. By Becerra's pro-abortion record during his two terms in the House, he has shown a disdain for Catholic doctrine and has been a willing accomplice to satan. We implore him to amend his ways, to turn away from embracing the pro-abort stance with no mercy for the lives of millions of unborn. By his actions as a 'Catholic' he is guilty of being an accomplice to murder through his promotion, voting record and legislation of pro-abortion measures. For another betrayer who seeks to perpetuate the culture of death and slay the innocents, see HEROD'S HEROES

Vatican trying to resolve how to reconcile with SSPX!

The one smudge on Pope John Paul II's pontificate has been the schism of the LeFebvre movement when Archbishop Marcel LeFebvre balked at Vatican II's disposal of the Tridentine traditions. Now, twelve years later the Holy See is examining their conscience and trying to come to grips with how to reconcile with those who have continued the traditions of Trent. In our opinion, because of the politics inherent in Rome and with the Bishops, the only answer will be a personal prelature or Tridentine Rite such as the Ukrainian Church has. Varney leads exodus at CNN over Turner slur against Catholics

Is FoxNews listening? If so they should grab high-profile CNN co-anchor Stuart Varney to work with Neil Cavuto. Varney who stood up for principle, integrity and Jesus when the "Mouth of the South" Ted Turner disparaged Catholics by calling them "Jesus Freaks" and they should "go work for FoxNews." Well, Teddy, your loss is someone's gain; it's definitely Christ's gain. Good luck, Willow. For more, see USA News

Portugal going gay as socialism and satan have taken over!

Oh, how far we have fallen! The Blessed Mother must be weeping over her beloved Portugal where she appeared in 1917 at Fatima. This once so solid Catholic country is now embracing fully the culture of death with the most recent news that the lawmakers in Lisbon will grant full marital rights to homosexuals. Yes, LaSalette and Fatima warned us, but we have not listened. Now we reap what we sow! For more, see Pro Life News

European Bishops looking into expanding into the television to reach the faithful

Word is the European bishops want to start a TV network for evangelization. If they're really sincere, we suggest they call Mother Angelica at EWTN. She's already in Europe and if they want it done right, they'll listen to her and help her expand further in working together. If they choose to fight or ignore her like so many bishops in the U.S. have and go it alone, then they'll probably end up with what we have here in America for Catholic programming outside of EWTN: Nada! A Pope becomes a bishop on this date

On this day 76 years ago in 1925 Pope Pius XI elevates Father Angelo G. Roncalli to the episcopacy, naming him titular Archbishop of Areopolis and apostolic visitor to Bulgaria. Archbishop Roncalli would go on to become a cardinal and then the 261st successor of Peter as Pope John XXIII and be beatified last year on September 3, 2000. Think about what has filled our void today!

They say a picture is worth a thousand words, but the words of Bishop Fulton J. Sheen have been known to launch a thousand images in one's mind, one of the ways this late luminary did so much to evangelize the faith. Because of the urgency of the times and because few there are today who possess the wisdom, simplicity and insight than the late Archbishop who touched millions, we are bringing you daily gems from his writings. The good bishop makes it so simple that we have dubbed this daily series: "SIMPLY SHEEN".

"An age without faith is an age of superstition. Religious belief is so essential to the heart that once it is cast aside, some false form is called in to fill the void. Unless the house is tenanted with goodness, seven devils worse than the first come in to dwell there."
