Saint Luke, a native of Antioch, was converted by St. Paul, and accompanied him on many of his journeys. St. Luke is best known as the historian of the New Testament. He is far and away the most prolific writer among the evangelists and Paul himself. Luke was meticulous in gathering information from the lips of the apostles and could very well be the patron of reporters considering his prowess for exacting facts. He wrote, as he tells, all things in order. The Acts of the Apostles were written as a sequel to his Gospel. Luke is represented by the calf or ox, the sacrificial animal, because his Gospel begins with the account of Zachary, the priest, the father of John the Baptist. This man of medicine is called a painter as well for a painting of the Virgin in St. Mary Major at Rome is ascribed to him traced to being discovered by the Empress Eudoxia in Jerusalem, which she sent to Constantinople. it is certain that St. Luke was an artist, at least to the extent that his graphic descriptions of the Annunciation, Visitation, Nativity, Shepherds. Presentation, the Shepherd and lost sheep, etc., have become the inspiring and favorite themes of Christian painters. He died the death of a martyr, and was buried at Thebes in Boeotia.         Defend, O most watchful guardian of the Holy Family, the chosen offspring of Jesus Christ. Keep from us, O most loving Fathher, all blight of error and corruption. Aid us from on high, most valiant defender, in this conflict with the powers of darkness. And even as of old thou didst rescue the Child Jesus from the peril of His life, so now defend God's Holy Church from the snares of the enemy and from all adversity.     • Because the feast of the holy Evangelist St. Luke John Gregory provides the Haydock Commentary for the Epistle and Gospel for the Double of the Second Class Feast of St. Luke the Evangelist, one of the authors of the Gospels and to whom the Acts of the Apostles are attributed. The focus is on evangelizing and the manner in which Our Lord followed the same procedure as Moses did for the twelve tribes in assigning disciples to each of the twelve apostles for a total of 72 in all and instructed them to trust in God's providence and express true charity through their work for the Lord and expect charity in return for their labors, for Jesus says "a laborer is worth his hire", indicating the need for those who work in the harvest for souls to be taken care of in the proper way of anyone else who would provide a service. Perhaps, until Pentecost, few of those disciples and even the Apostles realized what Christ meant when He said, "The harvest indeed is great, but the laborers are few. Pray ye, therefore, the Lord of the harvest, that He send laborers into His harvest. Go: Behold I send you as lambs among wolves." Later, as we know in St. John 21: 15-16, Jesus tells His Apostles, especially Peter to "Feed My lambs." His reference to lambs is significant for He is the Lamb of God Who has sent His "Lambs Among Wolves"

    This special feature is provided by John Gregory with the Haydock Commentary found at the bottom of each page of the Douay-Rheims Bible. With the type so small in most bibles, we publish it here in larger type in conjunction with the Epistle and Gospel for the Sunday Mass, with the cogent comprehensive Catholic Commentary penned by Father George Leo Haydock. For the Twenty-First Sunday after Pentecost Fr. Haydock provides a few commentaries, but the key is not in the commentaries but in the Scriptures themselves for St. Paul's words to the Ephesians are some of the most beautiful imagery he has employed in his epistles. In addition, today's Gospel is so applicable to the very situation going on today in Washington, Wall Street and throughout every home in America and the prospect that thought failure has been rewarded, those whose debts have been forgiven with a bailout are not passing that same mercy on to the common man. Even more pertinent is that few are realizing this whole crisis doesn't amount to a hill of beans in God's eyes if our hearts are not pure and therein the final verse from our Lord says it all: "So also shall My heavenly Father do to you, if you forgive not every one his brother from your hearts." John provides the short commentary for Twentieth Sunday after Pentecost "Unless you see signs and wonders"

       Over three centuries ago Jesus chose a devout nun to provide us with a divine promise if we follow devotions to His Most Sacred Heart. He explained to her the parameters of the Twelve Promises of the Sacred Heart and instructed her on how to pray during Holy Hour. Saint Margaret Mary Alacoque was born at Verosvres in the diocese of Autun on July 22, 1647. When only three years old she already had the greatest fear of the smallest sin. Indeed, the very word "sin" frightened her exceedingly. And before she was quite four years of age, without anyone suggesting them to her, she clearly pronounced the words, "O my God, I consecrate my purity to Thee, for my whole life: I vow to Thee perpetual chastity." Even as a mere tot she loved Jesus and Mary above all things; and as soon as she had learned to say the rosary, she recited it every day. Some time after she had made her First Holy Communion, God sent her a grievous sickness that lasted four years. Then Margaret had recourse to Our Lady. She promised that if that dear Mother would cure her she would become a Sister. Scarcely had she uttered the words, when she was cured. After some hesitation she entered the Order of the Visitation of Paray-le-Monial at the age of twenty-three. The Sacred Heart of Jesus manifested Himself to her several times; through her He willed to make this devotion known to the world. She died October 7,1690. She was canonized by Pope Benedict XV on Ascension Thursday, May 13, 1920. Pope Pius XI extended her feast to the whole Church on June 28, 1929.     The Ides of October bring us the feast of the holy religious Spaniard St. Teresa of Avila who founded the Discalced Carmelites. It was this obedient, but feisty nun who would not compromise or cut corners in striving to fulfill the reforms of Trent in blotting out laxity and returning to the roots of monasticism and Catholic truth. She traveled throughout her beloved land establishing religious houses despite tremendous opposition from within her own ranks and her superiors. Were it not for a few wise superiors, she might never have succeeded. But she had the faith and trust in God to carry out her God-given mission even though it took a great toll on her health and eventually her life. She died on the cusp of the Julian and Gregorian calendar. The last day of the Julian calendar was Thursday, October 4 in 1582 and this was followed immediately by the first day of the Gregorian calendar which was Friday, October 15, 1582 and that is why her feast is celebrated on October 15.     Another October 13 Miracle

    The men to the left are the 33 miners miraculously rescued on Wednesday, October 13 exactly 69 days since they were trapped over 2000 feet beneath the desert floor in a Chilean mine. As the days waned on and they clung to hope through prayer and common sense, they became known throughout Chile and the world as the "angels of the bicentennial" and indeed the angels played a role, real angels assisting Our Lady in carrying out the Miracle of the Sons 93 years to the day of the Miracle of the Sun. There was a reason for the miracle at Fatima and Mary's messages. To this day we have not responded as she asked. Soon it will be too late. Editor Michael Cain shares the prophetic words of a priest from 1935 who foresaw our very time of 2010. If we don't start making expiation soon for our public sins, it definitely will be too late. We have much work to do and we cannot sit on our laurels or cower in the shadows. It's face time, not on face book but in the public square where all Catholics are called to pray the holy Rosary this coming Saturday, October 16. Calling the Church Militant to arms.     As we close within seven years of the 100th Anniversary of the Fatima Apparitions, we are reminded all the more of the dismal failure to obey the Blessed Virgin Mary's request imparted to three innocent Portugal peasant children to alert the Church of the dangers ahead and how to stave off this disaster. Her Rosary was the chief answer and only a handful remain true to that today. In fact, the Rosary is the one link to conciliar Catholics that gives us hope they will be given the grace to truly see they are in a no-win situation in the conciliar church.

        Because the true popes from Pope Benedict XV through Pius XII did not heed Our Lady's plea, Russia was not consecrated to her Immaculate Heart. Consequently, Russia's errors have indeed spread where communism permeates nearly every country today, including the U.S.A. Abortion and sexual perversity originated behind the Iron Curtain. The Mother of God knew but man thought that's all superstitious. Well, so much for those thinkers. Despite the shell game played by the conciLIARS in 2000 with the ridiculous version of the Third Secret, we know from testimonies that the essence of it is about the Great Apostasy. There is much conjecture over a version that was released recently which supposedly bears the fingerprint of the real Sister Lucia. If so, then the last three sentences of the one-page purported message could be the clue:

      "The cathedral of Rome must be destroyed and a new one built in Fatima. If 69 weeks after this order is announced, Rome continues its abomination, the city will be destroyed. Our Lady told us that this is written,[in] Daniel 9:24-25 and Matthew 21:42-44."
    Consider that from the death of Papa Pacelli on October 9, 1958 through the tainted Conclave of October 1958 and the very controversial election of Angelo Roncalli and then his so-called impromptu announcement to hold a council until February 8, 1960 when Modern Rome put out a press release that the Third Secret would not be released in a devious effort to cast doubt on what had already been fully approved and twist Fatima to the Modernists' agenda: it was exactly "69 weeks." Could it that Rome has already been destroyed by conciliarism? Just a thought considering there are no other answers readily available. The best answer? Prayer!

        The path to perdition is wide and paved with good intentions. If one were to realize how ugly sin is, they'd never sin. However, the devil is crafty and devious and so he seeks to twist everything, trying to portray sin as allowable and something that is no big deal. Did he not try the same in the Garden of Eden? Why would he change strategy since? Sadly, in these very times when the Great Apostasy is so prevalent, lucifer has been able to make so many things sacrilegious and blasphemous today amidst an apathetic society that fails to take heed of God's Laws and the consequences of sin. Because of that the vast majority have disregarded St. Paul's stern warning in 2 Thessalonians 2: 10 and bought into the "operation of error" and "consented to iniquity." They have rationalized their consciences into thinking God is an all-loving while totally missing the point that the Omniscient One is also equally all-just and He will judge each and every soul both in our particular judgment and the final judgment. As most go about their lives stubbornly clinging to their own wills and rejecting God's will, they're oblivious to the fact that one can never enter Heaven in the state of mortal sin. Without putting on the armor of God and being in the state of sanctifying grace, we are puddy in the devil's hands and dead meat. Literally! In step fourteen of this series we treat Mortal Sin and the Occasions of this deadly sin and something we must avoid or else it will be the Sure-fire Way to Hell

    We all know satan apes God and he did exactly that with the heretical council known as Vatican II. What better way to fool the faithful than opening on a feast day that acknowledged the dogma of Mary's divine Maternity? That's exactly what the antipope John XXIII did, and it closed on another of her important feast days in 1965, her Immaculate Conception. It was deception that allowed Vatican II and deception that has followed ever since. Christ said it so clearly in St. Matthew 7: 15-21, and St. Paul warned in Galatians 1: 8-10, 2 Thessalonians 2:5-11, and 2 Timothy 4: 2-5, as well as the beloved disciple's words in 1 John 2: 15-22 and the Apocalypse, Chapter 17: 1-24 in revealing the fate of the false church. These are but a few sources from divine revelation that have foretold the Great Apostasy. We didn't even mention Our Lord's words in Chapters 24 and 25 of St. Matthew. Add to this Catholic tradition and the warnings by saints and Our Lady in numerous Church-approved apparitions such as at Quito in the 17th century, La Salette in the 19th century and Fatima in the 20th century. We are now in the 21st century and can readily see how this is the very time foretold - the time of the Great Apostasy. It began 48 years ago today and continues to ravage souls. To see how a bad tree cannot stand but is destined for the everlasting fires, we recommend checking out Novus Ordo Watch, as well as Tradition in Action which, though they insist they are not sedevacantist, what they publish proves time and again that the conciliar popes could not possibly be true popes. Two of the best to illustrate how the counterfeit church of conciliarism is collapsing and why all Catholics need to flee the false church of Apocalypse 17 are Traditio and, of course, Dr.Thomas A. Droleskey's magnificent articles at Christ or chaos. The latter two have pinpointed in their most recent posts several egregious heresies by the last two conciliar antipopes, all made possible by their succeeding conciliar antipopes or, as St. John says, "antichrists."























        The devotion of the Rosary of the Blessed Virgin Mary dates at least from the Twelfth Century, but despite the threat at Lepanto and Viena, as well as Belgrade in defeating the Islam terror, today we face even greater danger globally from the infidel as a punishment for our sins. Why? Because those who claim to be Christian have caved to the world, the flesh and the devil. Modernism can do that and the only answer is prayer. Heaven has given us, outside of the true Immemorial Latin Mass of All Time, the holy Rosary...and if we don't all use it soon as it was meant to be used, there may be no miracle this time. We have the weapon. Will we use it as St. Pius V encouraged? Or will we be apathetic, thinking others will pray and we'll be fine? Can we afford to take such a reckless chance? No, we can't. So pick up those weapons and pray. It's our only answer.

       At a time when the infidel is at the gates once more, we should remember the lesson of Lepanto. Trust in God and pray the holy Rosary. We've included the 15 Promises of the Rosary to illustrate the great benefits of her holy Psalter. In concert with Our Lady's request at Fatima, we continue to promote Holy Hour in the Home either nightly or each week. If ever we needed to spend more time with her divine Son Jesus it is in these times when chaos clouds everything. That is why both Enthronement of the Sacred Heart of Jesus in everyone's home as Fr. Mateo Crawley-Boevey, SS.CC encouraged and the Rosary are so vital. What better way for those who cannot be in the presence of the Blessed Sacrament because of the shortage of chapels where the True Presence resides, than to be encouraged to watch with Christ before a picture or statue of the Sacred Heart and spend one hour with him in a nightly Holy Hour in one's own home with one's own family? Many of us might feel we don't have one hour a day or week to devote to prayer with our busy life because things are so hectic. Yet, think about all the excuses we might give. Could it be things are hectic because we don't take the time to pray? Do we take our Lord's words seriously when He asked in St. Mark 14: 27, "Couldst thou not watch one hour?"

       Our only answer is to do what Our Lady asked at Fatima: to pray daily her holy Rosary and to make reparation. The renowned "Rosary priest" Fr. Patrick Peyton said "the family that prays together, stays together." In this time when the family is being fractured and phased out by Christ's enemies, what better way can we maintain our sanity and work on sanctity then bringing the family together to watch one hour with Jesus?

        Fr. Mateo has implored us to offer our holy hour in adoration and thanksgiving, petition and atonement just as in the Holy Sacrifice of the Mass. In fact, he encourages us to include in our Holy Hour the Prayers of the Canon of the Mass, offering these prayers in union with all the true priests who, in other distant hemispheres, are simultaneously offering the Holy Sacrifice of the Mass in Latin. It is an opportunity to add to the Silver Chalice when we cannot assist with the Golden Chalice.

        Whatever prayers you might choose, know that God will be pleased that you took the time to devote to Him. Remember Christ's words "Ask, and you shall receive; seek, and you shall find; knock, and it shall be opened to you.". Let us all storm Heaven and, as we face a pivotal and crucial time in history, heed Fr. Mateo's prayer: "Conquer America, most Sacred Heart of Jesus! Reign in America, Christ the King!" Vivat Christus Rex! Vivo Christo Rey!

        We also ask you to keep praying for the renowned long-time Traditional Benedictine Abbot of Christ the King Abbey in Cullman, Alabama Abbe Leonard Giardina, O.S.B. who suffered a stroke. He was ordained in 1949 and refused to go along with the New Order. In desiring to hold true to Catholic Truth and the Infallible, Dogmatic Decrees of Trent and perpetuate the Benedictine tradition and Rule, he received Abbatial Blessing from Bishop Robert Fidelis McKenna, O.P. to establish the Abbey in the South as a traditional stronghold.           It has definitely been a decade of transition, as this editor dubs it - Transition to Tradition, our last opportunity before God really lowers the boom. Looking back, it doesn't take a brain surgeon to see the deterioration in society as the ranks of the good, decent ones striving for holiness grow smaller and the enemy flanks are massing larger and larger, more threatening than ever. With every day we inch closer to the apocalypse foretold in the book of the same name, contrary to Protestant and conciliar concerns that it was always called "Revelation." Would St. John the Evangelist be surprised, and for that matter the holy Doctor of the Church who translated it and several of the holy hierarchs who ratified the Scriptures at various major councils of the Church, most recently at the dogmatic Council of Trent. Many closet conciliarists reading this may not be familiar with that council since the robber barons have sought to eliminate any mention of Trent in the same manner as the U.S. Government is doing everything it can to wipe out any mention of God. For both these offenses there are consequences, grave ones and we are beginning to see now that both anti-Catholic campaigns by the counterfeit church of conciliarism and the United States Congress and its cohorts in the Obama administration both in Washington and Chicago are getting more desperate as each day passes. Those not grounded in grace had best get right with God before it is too late. Call it "gloom and doom" if you want, but that doom can be eternal and that would cause anyone gloom. Can you say fire and brimstone? To remind you, we will be bringing you throughout this year "Diadems of the Decade" featuring an article from each month of each of the past ten years. We're not saying these are the "Best" of the decade for how do you choose which ones are the best? Yet, they are gems that we want to share for we're sure you will treasure them and realize, like fine jewels, they are still as valuable today especially when investing in souls.     This column ran ten years ago in which Cyndi Cain, in her Symphony of Suffering column, cautioned all as to how we've let down our part of the bargain, so to speak, with the Communion of Saints. Society, over the last forty years or so, has become satan's pawn now more than ever. Cyndi illustrated how long gone are the days where roles were defined simply, as God defines the role of man and woman. Long gone are the days when "children were to be seen and not heard!" Today, it's the child that is always heard, and the parent is somehow, inexplicably found to be the one in trouble because how dare we deny our child anything!" She explained how our sins of omission have become the conscience of today, and that is to say a conscience, individual as well as collective, that is distorted by satan, who has provoked these sins of omission to run rampant. Abortion and homosexuality have become the norm because of our sin of omission. Hollywood and Madison Avenue control our kids because of our sin of omission. While songs about broken hearts permeate the airwaves, the Hearts we should be most concerned over are the Sacred and Immaculate Hearts because of our sins of omission.     Nine years ago Atila Sinke Guimaraes pointed out the embrace of Islam by the media in the wake of the terrorist attacks began with the acceptance of the infidel faith by the Pope himself when he kissed the Qu'ran. One has to wonder. What's even more troubling, very, very troubling, is the question: What would those who fought and died under the Cross of Christ against the scourge of the Crescent Moon say about John Paul II's acceptance of Islamism by making the universal statement that Christians, Jews and Muslims "worship the same God"? The last we checked nineteen hundred years ago, nine hundred years ago, nine years ago and nine minutes ago, both Jew and Muslim have never accepted Jesus Christ as the Son of God nor do they accept the Holy Ghost as the Third Person of the Blessed Trinity. How then can they worship the same God? It is impossible and Wojtyla and Ratzinger's claims to pacify man while greatly offending God are visible manifestations of apostasy, all betrayed by The Kiss and the Blood

    Abstaining from pleasures of the flesh can provide priests greater treasure in the pleasures of the soul

    In light of Benedict XVI so openly embracing an Anglican bishopess in Westminster Cathedral during his most recent sellout in the United Kingdom, one that Henry VIII would be most proud of and which Sts. Thomas More and John Fisher would have turned over in their graves, except they were in Heaven, we bring you a brief column by Mario Derksen that ran eight years ago. With so many liberals, especially the new squeaky voice trying to make noise - "Voice of the Faithful" - lobbying for a relaxation of celibacy restrictions that would allow married priests, Mario presented a succinct reply to those who cry that celibacy is the "albatross" which has caused vocations to dry up. Au contraire. Rather celibacy is the anchor to assuring stability of the Faith. The fact that so many have relaxed their own consciences shows that a man of God must be pure - inside and out. Mario provided Scriptural and Ecclesial justification for why celibacy is mandatory. The Apostle Paul had a good idea and throughout her history, the Church, in her wisdom has shown the fruits of priests living a chaste life. Remain chaste, vocations will flourish.     Back in 2003 we first introduced an up and coming writer to The DailyCatholic cadre of traditional writers who, like many, first cut his teeth here.     Seven years ago, Father Lawrence Smith presented a fascinating, mind-probing essay on defending the sensus Catholicus of J.R.R. Tolkien. This was in concert with the immense success of the Lord of the Rings series. While some have tried to delve inside the creative mind of Tolkien, they fail to realize the guiding light that illuminated his ventures into the world of Middle Earth - his Catholic Faith and the solid sensus Catholicus of his writings. Fans of Tolkien might find this interesting. Critics of Tolkien might find this frustrating. Fans might become critics or critics might become fans on reading it. Or nothing might come of it all. Whatever the reader senses, Father's piece was an answer to a fellow priest's inquiry on the English master and his work. Father answered it in his indubitable, witty and thought-provoking style that hopefully prompted many to read it again and again for more of the gems of his writing on the writings of Tolkien and The Theology of Tolkien's Mythology

    Is the Pope Catholic? Remember when that was intended as a joke? Well in the past half decade it's no longer a joke, especially to God, because the answer in this conciliar era is a resounding "No!"

    Half a decade ago editor Michael Cain wrapped up the two week foray into a hitherto non-discussed subject and that is whether the conciliar popes from John XXIII through Benedict XVI were Catholic. Having weighed all the essays to date, Cain applied Our Lord's words in Sacred Scripture and the disciplinary measures set in place to assure the faithful whether one elected to the Chair of Peter is indeed a Pope before God and man and Cain asserted that, true to Christ's words, "no man can serve two masters." Either the conciliar popes have served God uncompromisingly and preserved the constituted evangelic Tradition and the purity of the orthodox Faith and Christian religion without altering anything their predecessors have defined and declared, or they have undertaken such a blasphemous venture as to incur their own excommunication and therefore forfeit all authority per Christ's words and Pope Paul IV's Papal Bull Cum ex apostolatus officio which is still in force. It can't be both. Either they are Catholic or not. There can be no middle road. Cain broke down the doctrinal deductions in his editorial The Syllogism of Sedevacantism

    When it comes to telling the truth no question is ever too difficult. When it comes to avoiding the truth no true answer is possible.

    Four years ago Griff Ruby asked if there were any sedevacantists really so silly and foolish as to be unable to answer "Ten items that Sedevancantists can't or won't talk about." Says who? Not Griff, for he tackled this head-on in something that resulted in a little known 'Letters to the Editor' posted in The Remnant from a California physician who thought he was going to trip up those who realize the conciliar popes are not Catholic. This doctor hadn't counted on Griff who illustrated how there really is no question that cannot be answered. Yet often times, sincerity is masked when certain questions are asked with the purpose of trapping or intimidating one so they will not reply. Such are often intended not as sincere questions, but posed in the very same manner of questioning that Jesus faced with the Scribes and Pharisees - the Hypocrites of the Sanhedrin, whom our Lord castigated so vigorously with such vivid imagery in Matthew 23. Often times such questioning is one's way of throwing stones, and by posing the questions without a balanced response, are often intended to hurt or to pile up mortar to hide the asker's own ignorance or other ulterior motives. Griff showed that the questions were really not that difficult when answered through the truth of Faith.     There is a method to the Muslim madness and we had better wake up soon and realize we cannot tolerate it!

    Three years ago we featured a gem of the past penned by one simply known as Doctrina who in 2002 first wrote the words that today are on everyone's mind as the Muslim hordes overrun Europe and threaten our own shores in the United States with the threat of erecting a mosque wherever the infidel has conquered. Since this essay first ran, French legislation has outlawed burkas in public in an effort to curb the stealth stallions who have already left the barn. While many might advocate pigs' blood to thwart their efforts, it is really only the Most Precious Blood of Jesus which will halt the barbarians at the gates. Read the sad facts of a country, a world veering away from the true Faith in France: Eldest Daughter of the Church, and the First to go Muslim. Can England, Germany, Italy, and the US be far behind?

    Ninety one years after Our Lady appeared at the Cova in Fatima her request for the conversion of Russia could finally begin to show fruit even if it might seem but one bud on a massive tree. Dr. Thomas A. Droleskey filed an article two years ago on the ordination of a traditional priest from Russia Fr. Alexander Kryssov who was baptized in Moscow by a Lithuanian priest and now returns to the heart of the Kremlin to begin the restoration of holy Mother Church one soul at a time. While many may say this is impossible, we are reminded of Christ's Own words in St. Matthew 19: 26, St. Mark 10: 27 and St. Luke 18: 27 that "with man this is impossible, but with God all things are possible." What many fail to realize is that it is our Lord's Own holy Mother Mary who can tip the scale for making it all very possible in God's time, not ours. Patience is a virtue and we all need to be more patient and much, much more virtuous as we pray for Father and the growth of the true Faith not only in Russia but also throughout the world, so dulled and blinded by conciliarism.
