Holy Father will beatify Fatima seers at Fatima on Feast of Fatima in May
Holy Father returning to Fatima     The Vatican announced that the Holy Father will add Fatima to his Papal Intinerary in 2000 and that he will go in May to honor the Blessed Virgin Mary and to beatify Fatima seers Francisco and his sister Jacinto Sarto who both died of illnesses shortly after the apparitions ceased. Only Sister Lucia is still alive and is expected to be invited to this august occasion that will take place at Fatima during his two day stay in Portugal. The two Sarto children will be the youngest non-martyrs ever to be beatified. For more, click on Fatima on Pope's itinerary

Controversy swirls over whether Israel will backtrack on mosque offer as Vatican continues to question decision
The Holy SeeIsrael
The government of Israel has backed themselves into a corner and now they're doing the two-step trying to rationalize the decision to grant a mosque immediately next to the Church of the Basilica of the Annunciation in Nazareth. As more facts filter out, we discover that it was not only an ill-advised move but greatly criticized within Ehud Barak's own cabinet. Now if they would just set Aharon Lopez, ambassador to the Vatican, straight so he won't trip over his words that the Holy See is picking apart. For more, also see our editorial today to the right. Holy Father Y2K ready with expose of millenarianist fears in soothing flock to not worry
The Holy Father took on the millenarianists on the First Sunday of Advent, also addressing Y2K which has been on the world's mind and assured all we have nothing to worry about if we are prepared in our hearts and the Advent of the Great Jubilee provides the perfect preparation spiritually for all of us. He exposed as error the millennium heresy that Christ will reign for 1000 years and pointed out that Y2K is the brainchild of new ageism that tries to mix metaphors and theology into a metaphysical mix of fear mongering that has alarmed the world unduly. Computer-wise he assured all the Vatican is definitely "Y2K ready!" For more, click on Holy Father on Y2K and the millennium .

Martyrdom, Mayhem, and Madness mark weekend around the world
Indonesia caused the senseless slaughter of half of East TimorCongo priest martyredSri Lanka massacres England where mad man runs wild in church
While Americans were celebrating Thanksgiving weekend, mourners in East Timor and the Congo were burying their dead, in Sri Lanka Catholic officials were scrambling to take care of 10,000 refugees, and in London a madman ran au naturel into a Catholic church, wielding a sword and interrupting the Mass just before the Gospel wounding eleven in the congregation before being apprehended. In East Timor the body of three priests were uncovered. They had been killed in September by pro-Indonesian militants during the month-long seige that laid waste to this Catholic country on the far end of the Indonesian archipelago. In the Congo, a priest was shot to death by the same group responsible for the genocide of 800,000 in Rwanda in 1994, and in Sri Lanka tens of thousands sought refuge at a shrine devastated by the civil war and the monsoon threats. The Holy See
    Saudi Arabia
In today's editorial, we begin a multiple part commentary on the whole mess over the Holy Land that hinders the way for the Holy Father to complete his historic "Jubilee Journey" next year, retracing the roots of our Christian heritage. We point out how the Pope wants to keep this a spiritual journey, from Iraq to Egypt to Nazareth to Jerusalem he is averting any political significance to his pilgrimage. But it is politics, not religion that is holding everything hostage. For the editorial, "Father, forgive them for they know not what they do" see CATHOLIC PewPOINT

Pope Pius VIII     On this date 169 years ago in 1830 Pope Pius VIII, the 253rd successor of Peter died after a one and a half year pontificate. It was Pius VIII who began the Vatican Postal Service and strengthened missionary activity around the world. Famous quotes of Bishop Fulton J. SheenTrue leisure is not lazy
They say a picture is worth a thousand words, but the words of Bishop Fulton J. Sheen have been known to launch a thousand images in one's mind, one of the ways this late luminary did so much to evangelize the faith. Because of the urgency of the times and because few there are today who possess the wisdom, simplicity and insight than the late Archbishop who touched millions, we are bringing you daily gems from his writings. The good bishop makes it so simple that we have dubbed this daily series: "SIMPLY SHEEN".

"Never before have men possessed so many time saving devices. Never before have they had so little time for leisure or repose. Yet few of them are aware of this: advertising has created in modern minds the false notion that leisure and not-working are the same - that the more we are surrounded by bolts and wheels, switches and gadgets, the more time we have conquered for our own. "

Dear children! Also today I call you to prayer. In this time of grace, may the cross be a sign-post of love and unity for you through which true peace comes. That is why, little children, pray especially at this time that little Jesus, the Creator of peace, may be born in your hearts. Only through prayer will you become my apostles of peace in this world without peace. That is why, pray until prayer becomes a joy for you. Thank you for having responded to my call.
