PRAYER & DEVOTIONS

Father, You gave Saint Bernardine a special love for the Holy Name of Jesus. By the help of his prayers, may we always be alive with the spirit of Your love.
Asleep in Heavenly peace
Meditative Lessons on the Glorious Mysteries
In the second part of Chapter 16, The Blessed Mother prepares to be reunited with her Divine Son we see, through interior vision, how Our Lady's pure soul leaves her body and is taken into the Heavens while her body remains fresh and in a deep sleep below while the Apostles all stand vigil knowing this very special woman who was the Mother of the Son of God and invaluable to them after He ascended into Heaven. Now they are all gathered for her, as we hear a vibrant eulogy to Our Lady from these men who have been infused by Mary's Spouse - the Holy Spirit. These meditative lessons on the Glorious Mysteries were imparted by Our Lady to the Hidden Flower of the Immaculate Heart after Pentecost 1993. They are meant to inspire and prompt a greater understanding of the Glorious Mysteries. For part two of Chapter 16, click on "MY LORD AND MY GOD!"

The race is for souls!

We continue our installments today of our on-going feature series on the Church with the third installment on Spiritual Welfare and the fact that the race has begun. It is not a game but a deadly serious contest - a contest for souls and if we grow complacent as the overconfident hare or hide from our responsibilities in the shell of excuses and "pass the buck" to someone else instead of passing the baton we'll get lost in the dust! The race is not for the weak. For the 103rd installment of our on-going megaseries on the Church today, click on WHERE IS HOLY MOTHER CHURCH HEADING AS WE NEAR THE MILLENNIUM?

When war breaks out, truth is the first casualty

It was Benjamin Franklin who said, "there is never a good war, or a bad peace." Unfortunately most are bad at both because they have not heeded God's laws and guidance. That is the crux of Cardinal John J. O'Connor's article entitled Conditions for a just war in which he details what the Catechism of the Catholic Church states and calls once again on all responsible parties to work at a "good peace" for war is hell and there is no such thing as "my country, right or wrong!" It's God's way or the highway...to war and living hell. We bring you this special piece by the New York Archbishop in place of Pat Ludwa's View from the Pew which has been delayed. For the Cardinal's article, click on MITERS THAT MATTER
Events that happened this day in Church History

On this day in 1506, the great Christopher Columbus died penniless and forgotten by his peers in Vallodolid, Spain. It would be left to historians to resurrect his honor and glory even though today political-correct spinmeisters are trying to degrade this Italian explorer once again. Pompous platitudes lack the power to perceive
They say a picture is worth a thousand words, but the words of Bishop Fulton J. Sheen have been known to launch a thousand images in one's mind, one of the ways this late luminary did so much to evangelize the faith. Because of the urgency of the times and because few there are today who possess the wisdom, simplicity and insight than the late Archbishop who touched millions, we are bringing you daily gems from his writings. The good bishop makes it so simple that we have dubbed this daily series: "SIMPLY SHEEN".
"Those who boast of their open-mindedness are invariably those who love to search for truth but not to find it; they love the chase but not the capture; they admire the footprints of truth, but not catching up with it. They go through life talking about 'widening the horizons of truth' but without ever seeing the sun."
"Your "star-gazing" is a form of entertainment. My Will is to warn you of all that is coming."
Those words were conveyed by Jesus on July 18, 1994 around the time of the planet Jupiter's visibility with the naked eye. It's interesting that this is brought to us five years later when once again our nation is riveted in the stars - "Star Wars" with Episode One. Our Lord basically points out that the "phantom menace" - His adversary satan is doing all he can to cause confusion and despair and only by praying and submitting to the Divine Will can we safely find refuge in His Sacred Heart. His Blessed Mother follows this up with Message #520 two days later to the Hidden Flower of the Immaculate Heart wherein Our Lady beseeches her little ones to put on the mantle of humility and seek to be reconciled God first before reaching out to our neighbors for only by being rooted in the cross vertically can we help our fellow man horizontally. HEADLINES:
Papal Itinerary for Armenia confirmed for early July
As expected, the Vatican confirmed yesterday that the Holy Father will travel to Armenia this year, with the schedule calling for the Vicar of Christ to arrive in Yereman on July 2 and be met by Patriarch Jean-Pierre XVIII and leave late on the Fourth of July. This follows up the speculation two weeks ago that the Pope would visit Armenia when the Armenian Catholic bishops met in Rome for a synod. For more, click on Armenia.
Holy Father will close three year preparation for Jubilee in Rome on Pentecost Sunday
His Holiness John Paul II will officially preside at the closing Mass for the "Citizens' Mission" in Rome which the Catholics of Rome have been commemorating for the past three years in preparation for Jubilee Year 2000 and being evangelizing disciples for the millions of pilgrims that will flood the eternal city next year. For more, click on Citizens' Mission
"Feed My lambs" with food and love, not bullets and hate!
That's the message the Holy See once again extended to the developed well-to-do nations, specifically digging at the United States who have long provided weapons and ammunition to many countries over the years. The Vatican maintains that peace cannot be achieved with weapons but by bread for without a piece of bread there can be no peace of mind. For more, click on Share the wealth.
Brazil Bishops blast Book supposedly approved by Brazilian Bishop's Conference
Reminding many of the travesty that was put out by some United States Bishops masquerading behind the USSB that created quite a stir to those who remember their pastoral letter "All the Children" or something like that, Brazil seems to be up to the same tricks but there are those Bishops that won't stand for it and have officially come out against a book which questions the authenticity of the Gospels. For more, click on Questioning the Word .
