Answer to last quiz: A majority of the voters were fooled by the last puzzler where we asked what was the purpose Castel Sant'Angelo originally had been built for. Because of its location and structure, many assumed it was for a military fortress. In truth, it was built for the Roman Emperor Hadrian as a lasting monument to himself where he was buried in 161 A.D. in the rotund structure called "Hadrian's Tomb." Thus the answer was mausoleum. In fact, it was much larger than the original building which also housed other Roman emperors' remains. In the fourth century it was used as a military fortress and in 590 Pope Saint Gregory the Great beheld a vision of Saint Michael sheathing his sword atop the building as the Pontiff approached it across the bridge while leading a procession in thanksgiving for the end of the plague. The bridge became Pont Sant'Angelo and the mausoleum was consecrated as the Castle of the Angel - Castel Sant'Angelo, which today is a museum, connected to the Vatican by "Hadrian's Wall" with a walkway above the lower corridor and open to the public at designated times.

    The Second Council of Constantinople
Just over a century after Chalcedon, heresy was running rampant and the Roman Emperor in Constantinople Justinian I decided it was time for another General Council. The Second Council in Constantinople condemned the "Three Chapters" which was a collection of statements by three deceased disciples of the deposed Nestorius. The Council determined that the writings of Theodore of Mopsuestia, Theodoret of Cyrrhus, and Ibas of Edessa were soundly condemned. This Council also affirmed the condemnations declared at the Council of Carthage in 416 and previous condemnations by Popes of heresies. For the full documents of the fifth General Council see CONSTANTINOPLE TWO

    Catholic PewPOINT
Editor Michael Cain points out how The DAILY CATHOLIC's transition to Tradition can cause fallout among those who are not willing to acknowledge the discrepancies between the Vatican II reforms and the Teachings and Traditions of the Church before the Council, even close friends and "the elect," as he illustrates in his commentary For many the toughest part is believing!
    Christ or chaos
Dr. Tom Droleskey follows up the tragic events of 9-11 and the ensuing anthrax scares with some stark reality to warn all in America not to get overconfident. The Romans did and we all know what happened to their mighty Empire. America is not immune as Tom points out in his column Empires come and go, including ours!
    Pro Life Prescriptions
Dr. Frank Joseph points out that if the Church Militant doesn't start to take action soon - as in today - our rights as Catholics will be totally taken away by a nefarious bill in Congress that would make it a crime to speak out against sin - especially sodomy. Sodom and Gomorrah will be here in all its perversity if we don't take action now as he explains in his column Anti-Religious Bigotry in Educational Bill
Standing with the Church Militant On the BattleLine
Atila Sinke Guimar„es identifies the traitorous Archbishop Oppas who betrayed the Catholic cause in favor of Islam and traces other historical facts about Islamism and how today the True Faith is being compromised for the sake of compliance and compromise in the first of a two-parter titled How the Crescent Moon intends to eclipse the Cross
    Simply Sheen
Archbishop Fulton J. Sheen knew decades ago the agenda Moslemism had in mind. Though many bishops and cardinals today contradict the brilliant Sheen by their pandering to the Crescent Moon, we see now how prophetic the good bishop was as the mask of Islam has come off and the jihad he foretold is taking place.

Scott, District Superior for the Society of St. Pius X in America, weighs in on how humanism has become an obstacle to acknowledging devotion to reparation to Mary's Immaculate Heart and how blasphemies against Our Lady serve as roadblocks in The Obstacles to Devotion of Reparation to Mary's Immaculate Heart
    Echoes of True Catholicism
Dr. Marian Horvat emphasizes how the culture revolution of the sixties played right into the hands of the prince of darkness as clothing turned from colorful to black, indicating a forboding that has given way to a gloom and despair that feeds right into the spectrum of satan as the soul is further blackened by mortal in as she explains in part five of The Egalitarian Revolution

This week is within the Octave of All Saints Day, concluding with the Octave Day of All Saints on Thursday, November 8th. The next day is the Feast of the Dedication of the Lateran Basilica, originally built by Constantine the Great as the Basilica of the Savior. It was rebuilt several times after pillaging and fires with Pope Benedict XIII dedicating the Basilica of St. John Lateran in 1726 as the Archbasilica of Our Savior. That same day is the Feast of the martyr Saint Theodore, followed by the feast of Saints Tryphon, Respicius and Nympha, all virgin martyrs.
