The steady march to the summit of the Cross is an on-going journey for every family committed to doing God's Holy Will

After introducing this special series on the weekend of the special Jubilee of Families held October 13-14 in Rome, we continue today with the twentieth lesson and the second part of a section called We are Family! in which Cyndi shares the Calvary her family faced in coming closer to God. Just as Christ has told us so often that we must take up our Cross daily and follow Him, it is never easy and often times we may not even realize why we must walk the way of the Cross on this earth. Her revelations show how God works in a family's life to guide them along this path, never giving us too much to bear but always testing our mettle, preparing us for greater sufferings and rewards as He sees fit in His time. The times Cyndi shares with the reader today recount the time before our conversion of heart and how, through our own finiteness, we stumbled, fell, but kept on going despite the odds, despite the world. For Just when you thought it couldn't get worse..., the twentieth lesson of this series by Michael and Cyndi Cain, see AT ONE WITH GOD series on Conjugal Love

Attention Bishop John Cummins: We implore you to call California Rep. Ellen Tauscher to task for her unyielding pro-abort stance.

Today's "Herod's Hero" is from California's 10th District of the the U.S. House of Representatives: Rep. Ellen Tauscher. We call on her to repent and for her bishop Bishop John S. Cummins of the Diocese of the Oakland Diocese in Northern California, along with Cardinal Theodore McCarrick, Shepherd of the nation's capitol see, to issue the ultimatum of the "Bell, Book, and Candle" if she will not hear even the Church. We beg of you, dear Bishops, to stand up for the Roman Catholic Church, to exact the discipline all Catholics are expected to follow. By her blatant pro-abortion record during her three-year term, Tauscher has shown a disdain for Catholic doctrine and has been a willing accomplice to satan. We implore her to amend her ways, to turn away from embracing the pro-abort stance with no mercy for the lives of millions of unborn. By her actions she is guilty of being an accomplice to murder through her promotion, voting record and legislation of pro-abortion measures. For another betrayer who seeks to perpetuate the culture of death and slay the innocents, see HEROD'S HEROES

Pope to beatify 233 Spanish Martyrs tomorrow in St. Peter's Square

Finishing up his Papal Lenten Retreat, the Holy Father will move back into the limelight tomorrow in St. Peter's Square when he elevates to blessed 233 martyrs of the 1936 religious persecution of the Spanish Civil War in which the clergy was greatly persecuted. ZENIT shares stories of one priest - now 90 - who survived and the son of a father who was martyred. The son will be in Rome tomorrow to see his father beatified. For more, see News from ROME

Pope and Curia complete Fifth Day of Lenten Retreat as Cardinal George emphasizes the Power and Poverty of the mission

Chicago's Francis Cardinal George, OMI completed his fifth day of giving the special annual Papal Lenten Retreat illustrating the power ennobled by Jesus with victory over death that enables His children to go forth and evangelize the world but only through our humbling ourselves in poverty and owing all to God can the fruits be carried out. It is in our nothingness that not only do we reach more, but understand their plight and extend Christ's love. For more, see News from ROME

Cardinal Egan in chess game with State over contraceptive health care

The New York Daily News has reported that Edward Cardinal Egan is not backing down or compromising with Senate Democrats in Albany over a clause that could be a loophole and it could be an open door for more pro-abort measures. It is the "conscience clause" and one would think that would be okay on the surface, but it is beneath the skin that the New York Archbishop sees all too clearly. For more, see USA News

Soulless beings on the verge if Cloners have their way!

Frankenstein might not be as much of a stretch as we thought if two crazed scientists have their way. Panayiotis Zavos, an American, and Severino Antinori, an Italian, said they plan to clone humans to provide children to infertile couples. The pair had previously made headlines by helping a 62-year-old woman give birth. Zavos and Antinori said they will conduct the cloning experiments in an undisclosed Mediterranean country to avoid local controversy and laws which have already been passed to ban human cloning. And we thought Dolly was weird! For more, see Pro Life News

    First Reading: Deuteronomy 26: 16-19
    Psalms: Psalm 119: 1-2, 4-5, 7-8
    Gospel Reading: Matthew 5: 43-48

"You have heard that it was said, 'Thou shalt love thy neighbor, adn shalt hate thy enemy.' But I say to you, love your enemies, do good to those who hate you, and pray for those who persecute and calumniate you, so that you may be children of your Father in Heaven, Who makes His sun to rise on the good and the evil, and sends rain on the just and the unjust."     Matthew 5: 43-45

The Voice of the Disciple
O Lord, trusting in Thy goodness and in Thy great mercy, sick I come to the Savior, hungry and thirsty to the fountain of life, needy to the king of Heaven, a servant to his Lord, a creature to the creator, in desolation to my merciful comforter. But what is this to me, that Thou should come to me? Who am I that Thou should give Thyself to me? How dare a sinner appear before Thee? And how do Thou vouchsafe to come to a sinner?
From Book IV, Chapter II of "Imitation of Christ" by Thomas a Kempis.

The Pope who witnessed the Fall of the Roman Empire

Today is the 1,518th anniversary of the commemoration of the death of Pope Saint Simplicius, 47th successor of Peter. Born in Tivoli, he was elected on March 3, 468. During his fifteen year pontificate occurred the Fall of the Western Empire in 476 when the Roman emperor Romulus Augustus was deposed by the barbarian King Odoacer. He also suffered through the schism which led to the founding of the Churches of Armenia, Syria and Egypt (Coptic). He regulated the distribution of offerings to pilgrims and for new churches. He also defended the Council Fathers of Chalcedon in the face of the Monophysite heresy. No room for doom and gloom!

They say a picture is worth a thousand words, but the words of Bishop Fulton J. Sheen have been known to launch a thousand images in one's mind, one of the ways this late luminary did so much to evangelize the faith. Because of the urgency of the times and because few there are today who possess the wisdom, simplicity and insight than the late Archbishop who touched millions, we are bringing you daily gems from his writings. The good bishop makes it so simple that we have dubbed this daily series: "SIMPLY SHEEN".

"Contentment has no kinship with fatalism which refuses to plan or act in the belief that nothing can be altered. It is such fatalism which characterizes certain Eastern philosophies and makes progress impossible."
