International Abortion Groups Call Bush Fascist
LONDON, Mar. 8, 01 (CWNews.com) - A meeting of pro-abortion
population control groups accused US President George W.
Bush of a "fascist approach" when he ordered an end to US
funding of international groups that promote abortion.
The coalition of groups said Bush created a double standard
that they said restricts reproductive choices-- abortion--
in the Third World while women in wealthy countries have
the full-range of abortion services. "We condemn this
double standard," Dr. Med Bouzidi, of the International
Planned Parenthood Federation (IPPF), told a news
conference.
The news conference was called to unveil a report by
Population Action International that said 98 percent of the
3.4 million adult deaths due to reproductive issues,
including abortions and maternity death, occurred in poor
countries, mainly in sub-Saharan Africa.
The report ranks 133 countries according to their sexual
and reproductive health in 10 categories including maternal
deaths, prenatal care, use of contraceptives, HIV/AIDS, and
teenage pregnancies. Ethiopia has the highest overall risk,
according to the report, followed by Angola, Chad,
Afghanistan, and the Central African Republic. Italy,
Sweden, Finland, Singapore, and the Netherlands have the
lowest.
