467th anniversary of the establishment of the Society of Jesus
Wednesday is the 467th anniversary of the founding in of the Company that would be the backbone of the counter-reformation. Saint Ignatius of Loyola, aided by fellow students Saint Francis Xavier, Nicholas Bobadilla, Peter Favre, Diego Laynez, Simon Rodriguez, and Alfonso Salmeron established the Society of Jesus in Paris. The Order, better known as the Jesuits, would formally be approved by Pope Paul III six years later. It was founded in order to protect the Sovereign Pontiff and to spearhead the counter-reformation that helped produce the Council of Trent and a resurgence of the Faith by solid teaching of the Faith. Sadly, it has been this same Order that has been at the forefront of the auto-demolition of the Church during the past 40 years. Pray that they will return to the ideals and truths established by the holy founders.
