    First Reading: Job 42: 1-3, 4-5, 12-17
    Psalms: Psalm 119: 66, 71, 75, 91, 125, 130
    Gospel Reading: Luke 10: 17-24

Hail, Holy Queen, Mother of Mercy, our life, our sweetness and our hope. To thee do we cry, poor banished children of Eve; to thee do we send up our sighs, mourning and weeping in this valley of tears. Turn then, O most gracious Advocate, your eyes of mercy towards us, and after this our exile show unto us the blessed fruit of thy womb, Jesus. O clement, O loving, O sweet Virgin Mary. Pray for us, O Holy Mother of God. That we may be made worthy of the promises of Christ.
Let us pray: O God, Whose only begotten Son, by His life, death and resurrection, has purchased for us the rewards of eternal life, grant we beseech Thee, that meditating upon these mysteries of the most Holy Rosary of the Blessed Virgin Mary, we may imitate what they contain and obtain what they promise. Through the same Christ our Lord. Amen.

Salve Regina

This year the Feast of Our Lady of the Rosary appropriately falls on Saturday, Mary's special day and it also falls on the FIRST SATURDAY of the month dedicated to her as a Loving Mother calling us all to RESPECT LIFE. For the vignette on this feast and tomorrow's Sunday Mass, see DAILY LITURGY.

Taken from the Gospel for Saturday's Mass

"I was watching satan fall as lightning from Heaven. Behold, I have given you power to tread upon serpents and scorpions, and over all the might of the enemy; and nothing shall hurt you. But do not rejoice in this, that the spirits are subject to you; rejoice rather in this, that your names are written in Heaven."

Luke 10: 18-20

Events that happened Today in Church History

Pope Saint Pius VPresentation of the Rosary - this beautiful original painting copyrighted by Matthew Brooks, used with his permission    Today is the 429th glorious historical anniversary of the great Battle of Lepanto in which Don Juan of Austria led a determined band of Christian sea warriors under the banner of the Holy League of Nations to victory over the superior forces of the Saracens and the Turkish Fleet Commander Ali Pasha in 1571. The victory was hailed by Pope Saint Pius V as a great victory due mostly to the intercession of the Blessed Virgin Mary. Though she had first given the Rosary to Saint Dominic in the early thirteenth century, it was never used so industriously and faithfully as it was by the people in reciting the Rosary universally in the Church against overwhelming odds. Pius, grateful to Our Lady for her intercession, honored her by establishing the day as the Feast of Our Lady of Victory. It was changed to the current title by Blessed Pope John XXIII in 1960. Famous quotes of Bishop Fulton J. SheenWe are only free when we know the truth!

They say a picture is worth a thousand words, but the words of Bishop Fulton J. Sheen have been known to launch a thousand images in one's mind, one of the ways this late luminary did so much to evangelize the faith. Because of the urgency of the times and because few there are today who possess the wisdom, simplicity and insight than the late Archbishop who touched millions, we are bringing you daily gems from his writings. The good bishop makes it so simple that we have dubbed this daily series: "SIMPLY SHEEN".

" The only ones who are truly free from the bondage and the burden of self are those who hold to a truth. 'The truth will make you free,' said Our Divine Lord (John 8: 32). Only the boxer who knows the truth about fighting is free to stay on his feet. Only the one who knows the truths of engineering is free to build to build a bridge that will stand. The lover of truth is under an eternal law of rectitude; as he submits to it, he enjoys peace. Truth is not something that we invent; if we do, it is a lie; rather truth is something we discover, like love. "
