2006 UGLIES NOVENA TO THE HOLY GHOST    We continue today with the Fourth Day of the Novena to the Holy Ghost preceding the Feast of Pentecost. It is one of the oldest novenas since it was first made at the direction of Our Lord Himself when He sent His apostles back to Jerusalem to await the coming of the Holy Ghost on the first Pentecost. It is still the only novena officially prescribed by the Church. Addressed to the Third Person of the Blessed Trinity, it is a powerful plea for the light and strength and love so sorely needed by every Christian. To encourage devotion to the Holy Spirit, Holy Mother Church has enriched this novena with and indulgence of ten years on any day of the novena with a plenary indulgence if one participates in at least five exercises and moreover go to confession, receive Holy Communion and pray for the proper intentions. QUEEN OF THE MAY    One of the traditional devotions during Mary's Month of May is The Little Crown of the Twelve Stars of the Blessed Virgin Mary which is an ancient prayer said by more than a few saints and was mandated by the holy St.Louis Marie de Montfort to those in his orders. It is a prayer said for each day of May. Along with this prayer there is another tradition that can be found in Fr. F.X. Lasance's book on Our Lady and that is to offer each day in May to the Blessed Virgin a different flower which corresponds to a particular virtue for each day. On this twenty-ninth day of May the flower offered to Our Lady as Queen of the May is the ASTER with the corresponding Virtue being GOODNESS. Goodness is what the Blessed Mother cherishes so much in her Divine Son's children for Goodness is the foundation of a sincere heart and a pure soul. The Aster represents the Virtue of Goodness
"Qui legit, intelligat"   In Father Louis Campbell's sermon for the Sunday after the Ascension, he refers to Christ's assurance that He would not leave His followers alone. Often times, especially today, one might think one is alone compared to the vast mobs of those who have acquiesced to the ways of the world, the flesh and the devil. Just as our Lord has counseled that if your hand is a temptation to you, cut it off, so also if the world is a temptation that could overwhelm one, it is better to go into exile to preserve one's soul just as Abraham did for he did not have the benefit of the Advocate as the Apostles did. Jesus prayed to the Father to protect His Own, not by taking them out of the world as those who push the rapture falsely predict, but by keeping them from evil by sanctifying them in the truths Christ taught and which He left to His Apostles to teach to all the world, baptizing those who believe; a prerequisite for salvation. Too many have forgotten that today and instead of looking up to Heaven, they look down fearing for their physical safety while ignoring the most important thing: their immortal soul, which Jesus especially asked protection for on those who believe and practice the Faith He left us. Catholic PewPOINT   Usually we don't pay much attention to commencement addresses because they're more often than not a lot of fluff with no real substance. But editor Michael Cain could not let what happened at his alma mater one week ago pass without commenting strongly on what was said and what wasn't said. As Cain documents, graduate and honored baccalaureate Mr. Tommy of 2006 Benjamin Kessler had a golden opportunity to preach the gospel in season and out of season, but failed miserably by spouting the Masonic creed of giving to the community. He later apologized for offending several in the audience because he dared to tell them they were selfish by using birth control and by thinking only of themselves. In that he was right, but in not going further and leaving God totally out of the equation he was very, very wrong and complicated the message even further when coerced by the spineless president of the university to apologize to the intolerant ones at the altar of tolerance. Doctors of the Church   Saint Bede the Venerable was the sixteenth Doctor in the chronological line of those elevated to the exalted status of Doctors of the Church. He was the illustrious ornament of the Anglo-Saxon Church and its first historian. Considered the Father of English History, he was the first to date events as in the "Year of Our Lord" - Anno Domini (A.D.) and would be appalled today to hear that the Kentucky Board of Education wants to do away with any reference to Christ whatsoever, all part of the anti-Catholic agenda to de-Christianize America thoroughly. That is the Masonic creed which Bede would never have stood for. This man was one of the few among saints to be termed "Venerable" and he was officially named a Doctor of the Church by Pope Leo XIII. Considered a Father of the Church, this man is one of the few among the saints who is called Venerable. He was the Benedictines' jewel this Holy Historian. "Qui legit, intelligat"  In Father Louis Campbell's sermon for Ascension Thursday, he follows Our Lord's final command in Mark 16: 15-16 in going back to basics. Things have become too complicated over the past 40 years and one reason is to cover up the obvious subterfuge that conceals the true Faith, masqueraded as Catholicism today. In truth, what passes as 'Catholic' today is nothing but Protestantism for, as Father points, out the bishops who signed the documents of Vatican II placed themselves in schism for what they signed was condemned by holy pontiffs who foresaw the mortal cancer of Modernism. Father reminds us of St. Paul's words regarding the faithful's superiors "Consider how they ended their lives, and imitate their faith. Jesus Christ is the same, yesterday and today, yes, and forever." God does not change and neither does the means of salvation as Christ established in the salvific New Covenant. Yet if we are to believe the Modernists, the faith is ever evolving and changing. Anathema at its gravest and yet so few have a clue. Father entreats all to "Keep the Faith" which begins and ends with preserving the Immemorial Holy Sacrifice of Tradition. While the generals and most of the commanders have cowardly abandoned ship and so meekly waved the surrender flag to the enemy, it is left to the few who remain faithful to defend the ramparts at all costs!
A Different Kind of Cloud
Faithful to Tradition   John Gregory continues with the Glorious Mysteries of the Holy Rosary corresponding with this time of Paschaltide. For the Second Glorious Mystery he appropriately brings us the meditation on the Ascension today as he utilizes Sacred Scripture to illustrate the mystery of the Ascension as well as resources from A Tour of the Summa on St. Thomas Aquinas and the Catechism of Trent. Making Sense of sensus Catholicus   Father James F. Wathen presents his second part on the reflection of how Christ provided in His words recorded in the Gospel of Saint John 14, what one might call, a crash-course for His Apostles in refreshing them on His divinity and how He would be with them always before He would leave them and ascend into Heaven and then send His Spirit - the Holy Ghost - on Pentecost. Father points out how Christ assures His loyal followers that He will always be with them and, through faith, seen through the Paraclete Whom He would send after our Lord has returned to the Father on Ascension Thursday. The very success of the Church depends on how faithful His shepherds are to His teachings. Christ knows that their commitment is vital for His charge in Mark 16: 15-16 and Matthew 28: 20. Despite the twisted fiction of The Da Vinci Code and the even more twisted fiction of Catholic truth by the false church of Vatican II, true Catholic Truth is clearly delineated in the Gospels and Sacred Scriptures with prophesies of the Old Testament fulfilled in the New Testament that Jesus Christ is the Son of God, One Person with two natures - human and divine. That debunks any rubbish that Christ physically begot a child in the fictitious Merevingian Line. It is all fable, and yet, even in fable, it is vital to express the truth for there are many fools who will believe the lies the evil one fabricates. Faithful to Tradition  With the Joyful and Sorrowful Mysteries completed, John Gregory begins the Glorious Mysteries of the Holy Rosary corresponding with this time of Paschaltide. For the First Glorious Mystery, the best meditation to inspire on the Resurrection of Our Lord and what followed up to His Ascension can be gleaned from Sacred Scripture and the holy Gospels of the Four Evangelists. What is remarkable is how the four accounts so readily strengthen each other. John takes the Gospels from the Resurrection and the aftermath of Christ's activity and we can see all He imparted capsulized in His messages, "Blessed are they who have not seen and believe," "Feed My sheep," and "Follow Me" as well as His charge to go out into the world and convert, not compromise, every creature. Those who believe and are baptized into the Church He founded and are obedient to all He taught and handed down, will be saved, those who think they have a better idea are in for a big surprise and it won't be Heaven. The red-fruited Hawthorn consisting of dense corymbs of pink-red flowers has stems and leaves which are densely covered with short wooly hairs and must bear up under cold and windy conditions. Gabriel points out how with The Da Vinci Code release this Friday, the evil one returns to the scene of the crime, ever tempting with more vile blasphemy and just as he had a gullible Adam and Eve, so also he has a countless covey of vulnerable idiots to once again spin his tale of sin and deceit with the vile, vicious and overtly blasphemous The Da Vinci Code in which he seeks to poison so many more souls who are only too willing to self-destruct. It is the final all-out assault satan has promised and we need to be ready to fight and to stand for Christ. Only by standing fast to Christ and His true Church in all things, without compromise, can one hope to be worthy to stand in His presence in Heaven. The infrangible tenets of Catholicism have not changed. What was a sin in 33 A.D. is still a sin in 2006. Beware of mixing fashion and fads with faith. They won't wash. Faith only will survive and that is what is under such aggressive attack not only in Brown's insidious novel, but in the promotions of the film so cleverly couched and so obviously anti-Catholic. The Heath-Flower comes from the Greek genus Epacris - meaning "upon the hill" where it grows. Just as the Heath-flower hangs down like a religious' habit, so to speak, - such as a monk in a monastery - to remind one to put on the garments of God in humility and recollect, so also practicing the Virtue of Recollection prompts one to look within the soul and seek in all humilty to think of spiritual rather than temporal things.
