 In Father Louis Campbell's sermon for the Fourth Sunday after Easter, he reminds all that no one should be surprised that the lies, calumny, apostasy and blasphemy have intensified for the devil will do all in his power to twist the truth - especially the "Word of Truth" which is God Himself. Father documents various passages of Holy Writ that confirm how so many will reject the Word and, in doing so, reject God Himself. That is what those whose curiosity towards such blasphemous trash as The Da Vinci Code are basically doing, scorning God to feed their own prying passions. No man can serve two masters and those who think going to such a movie or reading such a book will not affect them had better have the soothing salve of scripture and a strong, unyielding faith because satan is so devious, so clever. Without complying fully to God's Will, one is totally helpless in the prince of the world's clutches. Only by standing fast to Christ and His true Church in all things, without compromise, can one hope to be worthy to stand in His presence in Heaven. The infrangible tenets of Catholicism have not changed. What was a sin in 33 A.D. is still a sin in 2006. Beware of mixing fashion and fads with faith. They won't wash. Faith only will survive and that is what is under such aggressive attack not only in Brown's insidious novel, but in the promotions of the film so cleverly couched and so obviously anti-Catholic. Today's Doctor of the Church Saint Gregory Nazianzen, the fifth in a chronological list of the holy scholars of the Church, was another from the 4th century who also faced the intense persecutions and calumnies of the Arian bishops. Son of two saints - Saint Gregory Nazianzen the Elder and Saint Nonna - and the sibling of two others - Saint Caesarius and Saint Gorgonna - this Doctor of the Church teamed with another Doctor of the Church - Saint Basil - to uphold true teaching. He is considered the Church's Theologian. This Cappadocian bishop also nurtured a young protege who would turn out pretty well himself, one Saint Jerome.  In Father Louis Campbell's sermon for the Third Sunday after Easter, he takes the opportunity to note on this first Sunday in Mary's month of May how much Our Lady cherishes processions - from her Queen of the May processions to especially those processions where the Most Blessed Sacrament is carried in reverent fashion just as the Ark of the Covenant was carried in procession in the times of the Old Testament. Father shows how the Blessed Virgin Mary was well versed in Scripture and Jewish Law and had a deep reverence for the holy Ark of the Covenant. So also today she encourages her children to have the deepest respect and adoration for her divine Son present Body and Blood, Soul and Divinity in the monstrance carried aloft in procession. No wonder Catholics have such a love for Our Lady for they extend their love and awe just as the Israelites properly did before they veered and were scattered. We'd be wise to learn from bible history and remain in God's good graces; never taking the Blessed Sacrament for granted or reducing it to a mere cookie which anyone can touch in their hands. It's all about reverence and respect because God demands it and Our Lady is the ideal to emulate. Woe to those who dare diminish her role or mock her or her divine Son as society does today. In this Month of Mary, those who have sold their souls seek to mock the Most Immaculate and Sorrowful Heart of Mary by participating in by their attendance or lack of protest a scurrilous, flippant, sacrilegious play which portrays Our Lady as a modernist woman, played by a perverted drag-queen no less. Nothing like making God madder! Over 500 Traditional Catholics have stood against this blasphemous play while the rest of the world blithely laughs it off in their lukewarm state of infernal ennui and blindness. As Gabriel points out, it is just more evidence of society's complicity with the devil in staging another vile depiction that shows so clearly just how agitated and base the devil is in mocking the Woman, the very Immaculate one who will crush his head.
