HEADLINES:

Bishop Belo to meet with Pope today; both call for an immediate end to the genocide before it is too late

With minutes the difference between life and death, Bishop Carlos Ximenes Belo spiritual leader of East Timor and Nobel Laureate huddles with the Holy Father today at the Vatican. Both are in agreement the killing must stop and are frustrated by the UN and the rest of the world powers, especially the US for their hesitancy to offend the Indonesia military while hundreds of thousand Catholics are slain in barbaric fashion in Dili and other areas of the tiny island on the far east end of the Indonesian archipelago. Holy See makes it official: India and Georgia on itinerary for November

The Vatican has made it official. The Holy Father will travel to India on November 5 for three days, then stop off in Tbilisi, Georgia on the 8th for a day before returning to Rome. He is expected to release the final Apostolic Exhortation on the Asian Synod while in Delhi, India. For more, click on Asian Papal Trip.

UN contributing to ethnic cleansing through abortion and birth control distribution in Kosovo

The United Nations isn't what most think it is. Rather than being a guardian for the Sanctity of Life they have subscribed to the culture of death by bowing to the constant harassing of pro-abortion forces to distribute contraceptives and abortions in Kosovo and Slobodan Milosevic couldn't be happier because they're playing right into the hands of satan and the Serb leader's goals of eliminating the Kosovars with this "White Plague" that is laced with threats of murder if the truth reaches the world. Move over Disney and Warner Brothers, Vatican adding mascots to Jubilee 2000 celebration

Disney, Warner Brothers and nearly every college and pro team have their mascots and now, just in time for Jubilee 2000, the Vatican has added four fictitious children from various parts of the world as mascots to help direct pilgrims and spice up the appeal for youngsters going to Rome during the year-long celebration there. The characters are two young girls - one African - "Schanty" and the other Filipino "Lyn", and two male youths - an Italian "Luca" and an American "James" replete with a baseball cap turned backwards, so popular with today's youth.     Today we bring you the 64th person selected out of the TOP 100 CATHOLICS OF THE CENTURY. The voters chose Cardinal George Basil Hume, O.S.B., the late Archbishop of Westminster who died this past June 17th. Events Today in Church History

On this date 1,395 years ago in 604 Pope Sabinian was elected the 65th successor of Peter. He succeeded Pope Saint Gregory the Great after a six month vacancy for replacing Pope Gregory I was a major project. Sabinian introduced the regulation of the ringing of the bells to indicate to the people the canonical hours for meditation and prayer. In addition, it was Sabinian who decreed that the sanctuary lamps be kept lit wherever the Blessed Sacrament was reposed. SIMPLY SHEEN:

We are truly in perilous times!

They say a picture is worth a thousand words, but the words of Bishop Fulton J. Sheen have been known to launch a thousand images in one's mind, one of the ways this late luminary did so much to evangelize the faith. Because of the urgency of the times and because few there are today who possess the wisdom, simplicity and insight than the late Archbishop who touched millions, we are bringing you daily gems from his writings. The good bishop makes it so simple that we have dubbed this daily series: "SIMPLY SHEEN".

"Never before in the history of the world was there so much wealth, and never before so much poverty; never before was there so much power, and never before so little peace; never before so much education, and never before so little coming to the knowledge of truth. This latter discrepancy is the Scriptural sign of 'perilous times.'"

August 25th Medjugorje Monthly Message

Dear children! Also today I call you to give glory to God the Creator in the colors of nature. He speaks to you also through the smallest flower about His beauty and the depth of love with which He has created you. Little children, may prayer flow from your hearts like fresh water from a spring. May the wheat fields speak to you about the mercy of God towards every creature. That is why, renew prayer of thanksgiving for everything He gives you. Thank you for having responded to my call.

The DAILY WORD

"So Jesus went with them. And when He was now not far from the house, the centurion sent friends to say to Him, 'Lord, do not trouble Thyself, for I an not worthy that Thou shouldst come under my roof' this is why I did not think myself worthy to come to Thee. But say the word and my servant will be healed.'"
