Holy Father calls on India's Catholics to continue to evangelize the Faith as security tightens in New Delhi
John Paul II arrived Friday in India to virtually a non-reception, but this has not daunted the Sovereign Pontiff who realizes that this most populous nation in the world has long lived with the Hindu culture and more need to know of Jesus Christ. Despite limited demonstrations by Hindu fundamentalist, the Holy Father did not back down from challenging Indian Catholics to evangelize the Faith. He is in India to officially close the Asian Synod and in tomorrow's issue we will carry a summary of his Apostolic Exhortation Ecclesia Asia. Tomorrow he will head for Georgia. Nazareth leg of Pope's "Jubilee Journey" could be in jeopardy because of Israel's lack of cooperation over mosque next door to Basilica of the Annunciation
Sadly, because of the furor over the Muslim mosque and Israel's refusal to convince the arabs to curtail their plans, word comes from the Latin-rite Patriarch of Jerusalem that the Holy Father may bypass Nazareth in his trip to the Holy Land as part of his historic "Jubilee Journey." That would be a real shame since he had intended to be at the Basilica of the Annunciation on March 25, 2000. This is the exact place where the Archangel Gabriel appeared to the Blessed Virgin Mary and March 25th is the Feast Day - the 2001st anniversary of this wondrous mystery. Though other churches have vowed to protest the mosque by closing down for a few days later this month, the Vatican has not made an official statement yet on the Pope's intentions. Holy See expresses grave concern over so many going to Communion and so few utilizing the Confessional
What's wrong with this picture? Priests are reducing confessional times because so few people are confessing their sins, yet everyone goes to Holy Communion at Sunday Mass. Even saints went to confession. The Vatican expressed grave concern that people are not respecting the sacraments for surely not everyone is in the state of grace all the time; but from the number of communicants it would seem they are. But the Holy See is not so sure of that and the head of the agency for implementing Canon Law sees an alarming trend that leans toward sacrilege because without the absolution of the Sarament of Reconciliation, one cannot worthily receive Our Lord in the Blessed Sacrament. By receiving Jesus in the Holy Eucharist with the stain of mortal sin, man only compounds a very grave sin. For more, click on Confession is a must .
Though naturally they deny it, UN guilty of interfering with Venezuela's pro-life provision
The United Nations Population Fund (UNPFA) is up to their old tricks again and this time they're backpedaling, getting caught in one lie after another as they have been called on the carpet by Venezuela's press and the Church for warning Venezuela that it would violate international conventions by stating that life begins at the moment of conception. The bishops of Venezuela went on the offensive, counseling their clergy to preach stronger than ever against the evils of abortion at all Masses yesterday. The new president of Venezuela Hugo Chavez, who promotes himself as a strong pro-lifer, has been strangely silent on the UN's threat. For more, click on UN trying to forcefeed the culture of death.

In his column today, Pat Ludwa turns temporary gameshow host in asking for the identity of the true Vatican II. But, as he illustrates, it is no game when it comes to our Faith; for the misinformation that has been propagandized by such dissidents as Call to Action and that ilk has done great harm to the faithful. Pat shows that all that the modernists espouse turn to puddy and crumble in the sands of shallow belief when compared to the solid foundation that Christ has established on His Rock - the Church, headed by His Vicar on earth and regulated through the Magisterium of the Church. In this gameshow it is not a democracy and the clue to winning is called "obedience." The prize is not the American church, but rather the universal Church loyal to all Rome teaches without exception. Anything less and the "game" is over! Pat points out that it is time for the real Vatican II to stand up and be counted...and to bury, once and for all the destructive "spirit of Vatican II" that has haunted us since the late sixties and has just gained more steam as the lies continue to pile on higher and higher. Holy Father once again reiterates need to forgive all debts to show the true value of wealth as God intended
In his most recent regular weekly Wednesday Papal Audience in St. Peter's Square, Pope John Paul II continued his treatise on the Theological Virtue of Charity, this week concentrating on forgiving one's neighbor of debt especially richer nations towards third world or poorer nations. He didn't stop there, entreating all Christians to consider forgiving debts as a new beginning for the Jubilee Year 2000. Retired Bishop of Sion Cardinal Henri Schwery is Switzerland's only cardinal

Our one-hundred-twentieth red-hat we feature, in alphabetical order is 79 year-old Cardinal Henri Schwery, Switzerland's sole member of the Sacred Conclave. Born and raised in the Diocese of Sion, he has spent practically his entire life there including the chief shepherd there from 1977 to 1995 when he retired.
