May 25th Medjugorje Monthly Message

Dear children! Also today I call you to convert and to more firmly believe in God. Children, you seek peace and pray in different ways, but you have not yet given your hearts to God for Him to fill them with His love. So, I am with you to teach you and to bring you closer to the love of God. If you love God above all else, it will be easy for you to pray and to open your hearts to Him. Thank you for having responded to my call.

"The first commandment of all is, Hear, O Israel! The Lord our God is one God;' and thou shalt love the Lord they God with thy whole heart, and with thy whole soul, and with thy whole mind, and with thy whole strength. This is the first commandment. And the second is like it, Thou shalt love thy neighbor as theyself. There is no other commandment greater than these."

Pope, Kofi Annan map out UN's responsibility for carrying out peace

While Slobodan Milosevic and his parliament were agreeing to a plan, and NATO stubbornly continued its bombing, the Holy Father and high Vatican officials met with UN Secretary-General Kofi Annan at John Paul II's request to map out how the UN will take the proverbial bull by the horns and take charge in carrying out and preserving the prospects for peace For more, click on Power summit for peace

Vanished Veil taken from Vatican turns up in abbey after four century absence

Missing since early in the seventeenth century, the holy veil which Veronica used to wipe the blood, sweat and tear-soaked face of Jesus was found recently in an old abbey tucked away in a remote region of the Apennine mountains of northern Italy. It had been stolen from the Vatican in the early 1600's and disappeared without a trace but the German Jesuit priest who discovered it believes, without a shadow of a doubt, that it is the true relic of nearly two thousand years. "Behold, My Cross and the Most Blessed Sacrament are inextricably linked. They are one as the Most Divine Trinity is One. A sublime Mystery."

Those meaningful words come from Our Lord in Message #541 on the Feast of the Triumph of the Cross on September 14, 1994 to the Hidden Flower of the Immaculate Heart and it is fitting that we bring you this message during Corpus Christi Weekend. His Blessed Mother Mary follows up her Divine Son's Message the following day on the feast of Our Lady of Sorrows and talks about the prophecy of Simeon and the Triumph of her Immaculate Heart which will come sooner if we cooperate and live the Will of God. How the media monkeys around with the truth!

In this weekend's editorial we question aloud the media's commitment to truth in light of the fact that they are slanting the news to show the United States in such a favorable light that they have exaggerated the situation and painted a picture that doesn't exist. Now we hear of a possible peace accord in the Balkans which was supposedly authored by the US. Nothing could be further from the truth for the real architects of this peace will have been the Russians and the Vatican, but the western media stubbornly refuses to give credit where credit's due. For why this is true, as documented in this weekend's commentary, The proverbial vicious circle with the emphasis on vicious! , click on CATHOLIC PewPOINT.

Star Wars Episode One continues in hyperspeed leaving all other movies in the dust

In the second week the blockbuster Star Wars' "Episode One - The Phantom Menace" continues to eclipse all competition more than doubling its nearest competitor the newly released "Notting Hill" and quadruppling the third place entry, burying "The Mummy" and the rest of the top ten. The biggest flop was "The Love Letter" which dropped from a weak fifth in its debut last week to last place this week and most likely will drop out of sight next week. Many attribute the low turnout to the inclusion of avowed, blatant lesbian Ellen DeGeneres participation in the movie for many have made it a point to boycott anything she is in as a protest of the sinful way of life she openly promotes. In the Body of the Sacred Heart beats the Precious Blood

In her column this week, Sister Mary Lucy Astuto focuses on this Sunday's Solemnity of the Body and Blood of Christ, known in past times simply as Corpus Christi Sunday when all attention was placed on the Most Blessed Sacrament and the true nature of the Sacred Mystery of Body and Blood, Soul and Divinity of the Holy Eucharist. It was a time when parish processions took place, forty hour devotion and people paid attention to staying in the state of sanctifying grace so they could worthily receive Jesus in Holy Communion. This is what Sister reminds us of today, that nothing has changed and we better understand this and return all reverence to and for Him For her column this weekend, Body and Blood, Soul and Divinity! click on GETTING TO THE HEART OF THE MATTER

True Obedience bears the greatest fruit!

They say a picture is worth a thousand words, but the words of Bishop Fulton J. Sheen have been known to launch a thousand images in one's mind, one of the ways this late luminary did so much to evangelize the faith. Because of the urgency of the times and because few there are today who possess the wisdom, simplicity and insight than the late Archbishop who touched millions, we are bringing you daily gems from his writings. The good bishop makes it so simple that we have dubbed this daily series: "SIMPLY SHEEN".

"The real basis of obedience in the family is not the fear of punishment, just as in religiou it is not the fear of hell. Rather, it is based on the fact that one never wants to hurt anyone whom one loves. It will bear repeating that Our Blessed Lord said, 'If you love Me, you will keep My commandments.'"

Tradition of the Corpus Christi Processions

The feast of Corpus Christi, celebrated on Friday in the Vatican (Sunday in most of the world), was first celebrated in 1246. The idea for the feast came from a vision of a Belgian nun, Juliana of Liege. She saw a dark shadow on the center of the full moon, which for her was an indication that the Church was missing a feast "in honor of the most Holy Sacrament of the Altar." Urban IV extended the feast to the whole Church in 1263, and John XXII instituted the solemn public processions in 1317.

In the time of the Counter-Reformation, the processions for this feast day were seen a sign of the power and majesty of the Catholic Church against the Protestants. The processions continue today in many parts of the world, but with a less "aggressive" tone. The Bishop's office in Munich describes the procession as "a living confession of faith."

While attendance at Corpus Christi processions died down considerably, John Paul II has been an avid promoter of the practice, which is gaining popularity around the world.

Ten thousand participants participated this year in the Bavarian capital of Munich, where the celebration takes place in the morning. In Rome, the Holy Father lead 30,000 faithful from the Plaza of St. John Lateran to the Plaza of St. Mary Major this evening. In Spain, the processions are very elaborate, often including various persons in costumes, such as "El Colacho" in Burgos. According to some, "El Colacho" represents the devil; this character flees at the sight of the Eucharist.

In Munich, the Bishop has asked the inner-city parishes not to hold individual processions on the day of Corpus Christi (which is a holiday in Bavaria), so that the central procession will be even larger. Most of these parishes have planned a local procession later in the week.

These processions have also proven to be popular with the youth. Philip Huber, one of the organizers in Munich, noted that "Seen from outside, such a procession is certainly arch-Catholic." However, this doesn't scare the youth away, he says, because "Exactly this 'dusty' touch makes it mystical." (source: ZENIT, 6-3-99 #ZE99060320).
