Holy Father stresses need for Catholic chaplains at every university in the world to minister to Catholic students in secular institutions
Addressing a world congress of delegates involved in pastoral care at universities during a seminar in Rome, the Pope called for intensive efforts to place chaplains in every secular university in the world coordinated by each diocese so all Catholic students will have the opportunity to stay in touch with their faith while in the sterile atmosphere of the secular institution for higher learning globally. PRAYER & DEVOTIONS
For the Feast of Archangels we honor Saint Michael with the prayer composed by Pope Leo XIII:
Saint Michael the Archangel, defend us in battle. Be our protection against the wickedness and snares of the devil. May God rebuke him we humbly pray and do thou o Prince of the Heavenly Hosts, by the Power of God, cast into hell satan and all the evil spirits who prowl about the world seeking the ruin of souls. part one: The Altar
We continue with our on-going series of this abridged History of the Mass and Holy Mother Church over a 2000 year span called 2000 YEAR VOYAGE ON THE BARQUE OF PETER. We honor Saint Gabriel with this prayer from My Daily Prayer:
O God, Who, from among other Angels, didst chose the Archangel Gabriel to announce the mystery of Thine Incarnation, mercifully grant that we, who celebrate his earthly feast, may experience his Heavenly protection.
We honor Saint Raphael with this prayer from My Daily Prayer:
O God, Who didst give the Blessed Archangel Raphael to Thy servant Tobias, to be a companion on his way, grant that we, Thy servants, may ever be sheltered by his guardianship and strengthened by his aid.
The Tools of the Mass are vital in the implementation of the Sacrifice
Sarajevo's shepherd Cardinal Vinko Puljic has been the guiding light through the turmoil and tribulations in Bosnia-Herzegovina
Our one-hundred-fourth red-hat we feature, in alphabetical order is 54 year-old Bosnian prelate Cardinal Vinko Puljic, Archbishop of Sarajevo throughout this past decade - a decade of decimation and despair for many of his countrymen who have endured a war that plundered the lives of thousands of the faithful and destroyed hundreds of churches. Through it all Cardinal Puljic has been there for his flock. Ordained an archbishop by the Pope himself, he was elevated to the cardinalate during Pope John Paul II's Consistory of November 26, 1994. "Take up thy cross and follow Me."
They say a picture is worth a thousand words, but the words of Bishop Fulton J. Sheen have been known to launch a thousand images in one's mind, one of the ways this late luminary did so much to evangelize the faith. Because of the urgency of the times and because few there are today who possess the wisdom, simplicity and insight than the late Archbishop who touched millions, we are bringing you daily gems from his writings. The good bishop makes it so simple that we have dubbed this daily series: "SIMPLY SHEEN".
"It is the trials imposed upon us by others, such as their injustices, their harsh words, their knife-in-the-back attitudes, and their peevishness, that gall us; yet these are counted as the daily crosses of the man who would be truly religious. Much of the weariness of the spiritual life is due to the constant necessity of bearing the shortcomings of others, along with the never-ending strife against our own base inclinations."
