Confirmation of miracles could pave way for Blessed Padre Pio's sainthood in 2001!
A British publication is claiming that the Holy See is meticulously investigating two miracles purported to be attributed to the intercession of Blessed Padre Pio whom the Holy Father beatified earlier this year. Both cases involve Italians, one a young Sicilian who emerged from a coma and a man from Naples who was cured of a paralysis. If they are both approved by the Congregation for the Causes of Saints it will put the Capuchin priest's canonization on the fast track and he could very well be canonized in the year 2001. Phil Lawler, Editor of Catholic World Report and Catholic World News launches his campaign as a third-party candidate to unseat Ted Kennedy with announcement on Feast of Our Lady of the Rosary
The date for the surprise announcement by Philip Lawler, the respected editor of the excellent monthly publication by Ignatius Press Catholic World Report, and the editor-in-chief of the equally excellent Catholic World News - carried regularly here in the DAILY CATHOLIC - was not a coincidence but well planned by the third-party Catholic candidate to coincide with the Feast of Our Lady of the Rosary Thursday for it was against overwhelming odds that the Christian troops were victorious through the recitation of the Rosary. Phil has an uphill battle ahead of him but considering the culture of death platform of his opponent, the "cafeteria" Catholic joke Ted Kennedy, we can only get out our Rosaries and pray for another upset of magnifying proportions. Italian author defends Pope Pius XII of slander by author of "Hitler's Pope" - points out how that British author denigrates the Jews by attacking the Pope
Well-respected Italian author Antonio Gaspari pokes holes in every argument offered by British journalist John Cornwell who wrote a scathing attack on Pope Pius XII with the title "Hitler's Pope". Gaspari exposed the lies of Cornwall in an exclusive interview with ZENIT News Agency just before Father Pierre Blet, S.J. released his book "Pius XII and the Second World War in the Vatican Archives" this weekend. The latter exonerates, through definitive proof of any charges against the former Cardinal Eugenio Pacelli, the 260th successor of Peter who is seen as in actuality assisting countless Jews during the war, a fact confirmed by many Jewish experts of that time and Jewish leaders today. It makes Cornwall look like the total buffoon he is! For more, click on God's Pope not Hitler's .

Plot thickens in Bishop's Murder Trial as Prosecutor flees Guatamala
Guatamala    Fearing for his life, the prosecutor of the case covering the murder of Guatamalan Auxiliary Bishop Juan Gerardi Conedera, bludgeoned to death in April last year, was forced to flee the country leaving the trial in limbo for the time being as the government and military continue to intimidate and do everything unlegal to cover up the true culprits of the human-rights advocate bishop's murder - high military personnel sanctioned by the Guatamala government. The Church and human rights groups have put pressure on the government but still the trial plods along with cover-up and mirage scapegoats offered instead. For more, click on As the trial turns .

  • We need to be powered by God in order to tap into that Almighty Power!
Pat Ludwa's View from the Pew     In his column today, Pat Ludwa illustrates how any "power" we possess comes ONLY from God. It does not come from within, or from crystals or mantras or self-hypnosis or any other New Age devices. Power within does not come from self-will but from submitting our wills to God's Will as Pat shows how the Son of God set the example with His fiat to His Father, "Not My will, but Thy will be done". Pat proceeds to show how God has shown man, without a shadow of a doubt, that He alone has the Power, not man and the faster we realize that, the better off we will all be and be able to not only accept whatever comes our way in life, but offer all joys and sufferings up to Him for merit and graces. In other words, we rev up that Power through our "Yes" to God and then can more readily run on all cylinders on the road to Heaven. For Pat's column Whose Power?, click on VIEW FROM THE PEW
"This generation is an evil generation: it demands a sign, and no sign shall be given it but the sign of Jonas. For even as Jonas was a sign to the Ninevites, so will also the Son of Man be to this generation. The queen of the South will rise up in the judgment with the men of this generation and will condemn them; for she came from the ends of the earth to hear the wisdom of Solomon, and behold a greater than Solomon is here."

Holy Father calls all to practice theological virtue of charity to grow closer in God's Love
In his most recent regular weekly Wednesday Papal Audience in St. Peter's Square, Pope John Paul II spoke how man "is called to love God with total commitment and, in his relationship with his brothers and sisters, to display a love inspired by that very love of God. Conversion means to convert oneself to love." After recalling the mercy of God during the Old Testament, the Pontiff stated that the New Testament "presents us the dynamism of love centered on Jesus, beloved Son of the Father." Famous quotes of Bishop Fulton J. SheenWe must share our gifts with all!
They say a picture is worth a thousand words, but the words of Bishop Fulton J. Sheen have been known to launch a thousand images in one's mind, one of the ways this late luminary did so much to evangelize the faith. Because of the urgency of the times and because few there are today who possess the wisdom, simplicity and insight than the late Archbishop who touched millions, we are bringing you daily gems from his writings. The good bishop makes it so simple that we have dubbed this daily series: "SIMPLY SHEEN".

"The powerful are always under obligation to the weak. Advantage of any kind is not a personal possession but a trust. St. Paul said: 'I am obligated to both Greeks and barbarians; to the wise and the foolish alike' (Romans 1: 14). In reality, of course, he owed the Greeks nothing - they had persecuted him; and the barbarians he had never seen. But Paul was conscious that God had conferred upon him great gifts and he felt bound to share these gifts with others who did not yet possess them."

Events that happened this day in Church History
Pope Boniface VII     On this day 696 years ago in 1303 Pope Boniface VIII, the 193rd successor of Peter, who was a feisty and no-nonsense, stubborn pontiff who would take on all comers. This included the manipulative monarch of France King Philip IV better known as Philip the Fair but he was anything but fair. He constantly interferred in ecclesiastical matters and when push came to shove both Boniface and Philip excommunicated each other, but Boniface had the greatest impact with his landmark Papal Bull Unam Sanctam which determined that the supremacy of spiritual power over temporal power.
