In honor of the death of Saint Monica today on the 1,612th anniversary of her passing, we present a special prayer in her honor taken from My Daily Prayer booklet from the Confraternity of the Precious Blood.
O God, the Comforter of those who mourn and the Salvation of all those who hope in Thee, Who didst mercifully regard the loving tears of Blessed Monica by willing the conversion of Augustine, her son, grant us, through their united intercession, grace to deplore our sins and so to find Thy pardon and favor. Through our Lord Jesus Christ, Thy Son, Who liveth and reigneth with Thee in the unity of the Holy Spirit, God, world without end. Amen.

Jesus disappears from their sight, but never from their minds and hearts
Meditative Lessons on the Glorious Mysteries
In the second part of Chapter 13: The Ascension of Jesus we see, through interior vision, the actual Ascension of Jesus. As he ascends into the clouds we are given an insight into something else we may not have been aware of: the Blessed Mother is given the opportunity - the choice to accompany her Divine Son for all time or to remain behind and help His fledgling, struggling Church. As a true mother she chooses the latter, showing her love and loyalty to God's children. These meditative lessons, imparted by Our Lady to the Hidden Flower of the Immaculate Heart after Pentecost 1993, are meant to inspire and prompt a greater understanding of the Glorious Mysteries. For part two of Chapter 13, click on "MY LORD AND MY GOD!"

"Peace I leave with you, My peace I give to you; not as the world gives do I give to you. Do not let your heart be troubled, or be afraid."

There are a lot of variables to the mechanics of war but when it comes to coincidences the writing is on the wall!
In today's editorial we ask to see the script someone is composing regarding the war in the Balkans. It's all too "Hollywood," too contrived for the good of mankind. To quote the bard Shakespeare, "There's something rotten in Denmark" and Belgrade and Washington as well, but should we be surprised for while this script plays out as spinmeisters weave their carefully manipulated lines, another script is being fulfilled - Sacred Scripture and the script the Blessed Mother has conveyed over the past two centuries. For today's commentary entitled It's in the script!, click on CATHOLIC PewPOINT.

  • More sidebars on Padre Pio Beatification as hundreds of thousands overflow the eternal city

  • Special crusade underway to atone for wrongs during Crusades

  • Padua Peace Program calls on UN to take control of Balkan situation and forge a plan of peace

  • After Padre Pio, Pope John XXIII is the odds-on favorite to be the next candidate to be beatified.

These headlines and more are featured in today's NEWS & VIEWS below.

  • Pope Pius IIIPius III was the all-too short calm between the storms of decadence and rebellion
The Church had finally rid herself of the Borgia Pope with the death of Alexander VI on August 18, 1503, but the ills that he had sown were still there and the cardinals made sure his bastard son wasn't elected by choosing the conservative and holy Cardinal Francesco Todeschini Piccolomini to become Pope Pius III in honor of his uncle who had taken the name Pius II. But his promising papacy was cut short, way short by the gout and after only ten days as Pope he was taken home on September 22, 1503 and the Church was once again thrown into turmoil. For the one-hundred-third installment titled Pope Pius III: A far too-short lull between two tempests , click on THE HISTORY OF THE MASS AND HOLY MOTHER CHURCH.

    Events in Church History
Pope Alexander VI     On this date in 1493 the predecessor to Pope Pius III, namely the Borgia Pope Pope Alexander VI. a Spanish native, sets a line of demarcation 100 leagues west of the Azores between Spanish and Portuguese interests of exploration. Since it naturally favored Spain, the Portuguese representatives demanded that it be altered which it was a year later at the Treaty of Tordesillas. Dragged down by the dragons of subliminal sin in the aftermath of the Columbine tragedy
In place of CATHOLIC CANVAS today we present this feature by Ken Kraver who follows up his article just over a week ago on the Columbine tragedy and society with an even more insightful one today on the devils in the dragon's bureaucratic division of Correctness and the government and society's intervention and manipulation. For his feature article entitled, A Real Horror Movie: "The Corrector Cometh" click on ECCLESIAL ECHOES

Going against the grain is not popular
Famous quotes of Bishop Fulton J. Sheen    They say a picture is worth a thousand words, but the words of Bishop Fulton J. Sheen have been known to launch a thousand images in one's mind, one of the ways this late luminary did so much to evangelize the faith. Because of the urgency of the times and because few there are today who possess the wisdom, simplicity and insight than the late Archbishop who touched millions, we are bringing you daily gems from his writings. The good bishop makes it so simple that we have dubbed this daily series: "SIMPLY SHEEN".

"The real thinker who is willing to embrace a truth at all costs generally has double price to pay - first, isolation from current opinion or the mass mind. Anyone who arrives at the moral conclusion that divorce prepares the way for the breakdown of civilization must be prepared to be ostracized by the Herods and the Salomes of this world."

Immaculate and Sorrowful Heart of Mary Sacred and Merciful Heart of Jesus "Pray daily for the Triumph of My Mother's Immaculate Heart, for She is the key to the Reign of My Sacred Heart!"
Those words were spoken by the Sacred Heart of Jesus in Message #505 on the Feast of the Sacred Heart of Jesus on Friday, June 10 to the Hidden Flower of the Immaculate Heart, in which Our Lord reinforces the vital link between the Triumph of Mary's Immaculate Heart which will usher in the glorious Reign of His Most Merciful and Sacred Heart. His Blessed Mother reaffirms this in her follow-up message #506 in which she warns again not to follow the deceitful path of satan for that will only end in a deadend with no outlet to enjoy the glories that are to come. Pope asks faithful to follow example of Padre Pio in honoring Mary in remarks during beatification
Following up on Sunday's gala festivities that saw Padre Pio beatified before hundreds of thousands in Rome, we present more sidebars about the ceremonies at St. Peter's and the Holy Father's follow-up remarks at St. John Lateran's Square where he traveled after the beatification ceremonies for the Regina Coeli and to address the overflow crowds there as well. Crusade for Reconciliation of the Crusades implemented by Western Christian Group
Crusaders     In this era of reconciliation first introduced by Pope John Paul II a group of Western Christians have taken it upon themselves to apologize and try to make amends for violations committed in the name of the Crusades which, they admit, was not what Jesus asked. They ask for reconciliation in preparation for the new millennium and to make amends for the wrongs done and are revisiting the scenes of the crimes from 900 years ago from the Rhine to Jerusalem. For more, click on Crusade for Reconciliation.

Padua Peace proposers look to UN to intervene for peace in Balkans
      flag of Kosovo
On the day a modern Franciscan was honored in Rome, from the seat of another holy Franciscan from days of old - Saint Anthony of Padua wiser hearts have spoken out about the terrible war in the Balkans. Catholic Action has strongly recommended appealing to the United Nations to overrule NATO. A special peace march from Perugia to Assisi is planned for May 16, three days after Ascension Thursday and the 82nd anniversary of the First Apparition at Fatima. For more, click on Padua peace proposal.

Many suspect next beatification ceremonies could be as popular as Padre Pio's for odds are Pope John XXIII's beatification could be in 2000
Pope John XXIII    Many looked at the crowd control for Padre Pio's beatification as a dress rehearsal for next year and the countless Jubilee 2000 events. One of those events could be another beatification which could very well be Cardinal Angelo Guiseppi Roncali, better known as Pope John XXIII who, because of the confirmed miracle attributed to his intercession, is expected to be the next candidate for sainthood to be beatified, most probably sometime next year. For more, click on Is John XXIII next?.
