Medjugorje Monthly Message for MAY 25th
Dear children! Also today I call you to convert and to more firmly believe in God. Children, you seek peace and pray in different ways, but you have not yet given your hearts to God for Him to fill them with His love. So, I am with you to teach you and to bring you closer to the love of God. If you love God above all else, it will be easy for you to pray and to open your hearts to Him. Thank you for having responded to my call.

Time after time we don't learn from history. It's time we did before our time fades away! |
In today's commentary we continue with the same thought pattern from Friday's editorial about the background of the Balkans crisis and why so many don't have a clue what is really happening and who really is in charge. When there is true peace then the Holy Trinity is in charge, but when there is war and dissension you can bet the one calling the shots comes from the nether regions of hell. The ethnic resentments have run deep over the centuries and continue to be fueled by the evil one on all sides as the sundial moves toward the zero hour. For today's editorial, Persecution is a pertinent part of the purification process! , click on CATHOLIC PewPOINT.

The Protestant nightmare became all too real as Pope Leo X tried to pass it all off as a bad dream but in reality it would result in sleepless times ahead for the Church |
The poor preparation to the papacy, spawned by prior popes came back to haunt all within the Church when Pope Leo X, the 217th successor of Peter, ascended the papal throne and immediately placed more importance on the humanistic arts. This lack of spiritual guidance proved to be his great achilles heel that would bring many in the Church crumbling, unable to cope with the growing dissension that was soon to erupt in total revolt during the bloody Protestant Reformation which was strongly planted in Europe partly because of the enlightenment movement and partly because of the lack of a strong moral compass emanating from Rome. The skipper of the Barque of Peter had no clue and when he did make moves, they were the wrong ones. The result would be a shipwreck of dire proportions that would weaken the Church's fleet for decades to come. Only practicing virtue makes perfect
They say a picture is worth a thousand words, but the words of Bishop Fulton J. Sheen have been known to launch a thousand images in one's mind, one of the ways this late luminary did so much to evangelize the faith. Because of the urgency of the times and because few there are today who possess the wisdom, simplicity and insight than the late Archbishop who touched millions, we are bringing you daily gems from his writings. The good bishop makes it so simple that we have dubbed this daily series: "SIMPLY SHEEN".
"The sinless people who are boastful of their goodness are always harsh, and sinful people who remain in their sin are often indifferent to goodness and justice. But those who are dissatisfied with their goodness, and strive to perfect the Divine Image within, are always sympathetic and compassionate."
"Yes, I permit sufferings to fulfill Scripture so that those whose hearts are not fully converted may yet come to My Divine Mercy as humble, contrite children to receive My forgiveness!"
Those words were spoken by the Sacred Heart of Jesus in Message #555 on October 23, 1994 to the Hidden Flower of the Immaculate Heart, in which Our Lord laments over those who have turned from Him, His Church and His Vicar on earth. He points out that persecution and suffering are necessary for the purification process and that He allows evil for good. He calls for His priests to proclaim Him and His teachings to all and to reinstate His dwelling place - the Tabernacle where it is readily accessible to the people as well as the crucifix for it was not the cross that saved mankind but the One on the cross. Only through the crucifixion can the Resurrection be realized. His Blessed Mother reinforces this a day later in her message to her children, reminding all that the only true refuge is in the Sacred Heart of her Divine Son and her Immaculate Heart. Pope will visit Armenian Patriarch on his death bed Friday in unscheduled, private visit to Armenia
Even though the Vatican officially cancelled the Holy Father's visit to Armenia in July because of the Patriarch Catholicos I Karekin's severe throat cancer, the Pope has made it known that he will extend his pilgrimage an extra day. Rather than returning directly to Rome from Poland on Friday, he will stop off in Armenia to personnally offer his condolences and pray with his friend the Armenian Patriarch in a show of love and mercy from the Sovereign Pontiff for the Patriarch is not expected to live long. The Holy Father will not make any public appearances since he is going strictly to see his friend who signed at the Vatican last November an agreement to end a theological dispute between the Roman Catholic Church and the autonomous Armenian Church that had lasted a millennium and a half. Vatican and Israel hint Holy Father will make Lenten visit to Holy Land next year
The Holy See's Cultural Attache in Israel Monsignor Richard Mathes revealed to a group of religious leaders in Jerusalem Monday that the Vatican is making preliminary plans for the Pope to arrive in Jerusalem on March 20, 2000 during Lent next year. He pointed out that much of the itinerary to Jerusalem, Nazareth, Bethlehem and the Sea of Galillee is contingent on an agreeable pact between Israel and Palestine, but held out optismistic hope that peace talks will go well with the new Israeli president in place. Dana could be called the "Irish Jesse Ventura!" as she shocks political punsters with shocking upset win in Ireland for European Parliament post
Never underestimate the power of God's Will and the resolve of a good woman who wants to help her native land and promote the sanctity of life. That is the summation with the announcement that Irish-born Catholic singer Dana Rosemary Scallon, best known for her appearances on EWTN simply as "Dana," was elected to the European Parliament representing the western region of Ireland known as Connacht Ulster despite formidable competition. Currently living near Irondale, Alabama where EWTN studios are, she and her husband, an employee of the network, will now be moving back to the emerald isle with their three children. Supreme Court turns attention to various church-state issues with rulings on funding and pro-life group's appeal
The United States Supreme Court convened this week with a variety of cases regarding religious issues, most in the scope of church-state rulings. One deals with a Louisiana case in the court's deciding if parochial religious schools can use tax money to purchase equipment such as computers. They also ruled that states have jurisdiction in ruling if colleges are truly of a religious persuasion or merely a cloak. Finally, Operation Rescue suffered yet another setback when the Supreme Court ruled that the non-profit pro-life organization is responsible for paying off contempt-of-court fines totalling more than half a million dollars which resulted in litigation fees for the group's blocking of abortuaries in New York in the late eighties.
