Feast of Saint Martha, Disciple of the Lord

St. Martha     It is truly right and just to exalt you, O God of infinite mercy, as we honor with fitting praise Christ, the King of the universe, on the feast of St. Martha, who was happy to welcome Him into her house and served Him with devotion and loving zeal. By the generosity of her heart she obtained the resurrection of her brother Lazarus, who was four days dead, and she merited to be united for all eternity in the kingdom of Heaven with Him Whom she had received as a guest.

Taken from the Preface for the Mass honoring St. Martha

SEVENTEENTH SUNDAY IN ORDINARY TIME

July 30 is the traditional Feast of Saint Peter Chrysologus

Father, You made Peter Chrysologus an outstanding preacher of Your incarnate Word. May the prayers of St. Peter help us to cherish the mystery of our salvation and make its meaning clear in our love for others.

The DAILY WORD Taken from the Gospel for Saturday's Mass
"Jesus said to her, 'I am the Resurrection and the Life; he who believes in Me, even if he die, shall live; and whoever lives and believes in Me, shall never die. Dost thous believe this?' She said to him, 'Yes, Lord, I believe that Thou art the Christ, the Son of God, Who hast come into the world."
John 11: 25-27

Famous quotes of Bishop Fulton J. SheenTrapped in our own comfort zone of discontent

They say a picture is worth a thousand words, but the words of Bishop Fulton J. Sheen have been known to launch a thousand images in one's mind, one of the ways this late luminary did so much to evangelize the faith. Because of the urgency of the times and because few there are today who possess the wisdom, simplicity and insight than the late Archbishop who touched millions, we are bringing you daily gems from his writings. The good bishop makes it so simple that we have dubbed this daily series: "SIMPLY SHEEN".

"Suppose one took a paper and wrote down the number of times he succumbed to the vice of self-pity in a day. What a catalog of egotism it would be and what a revelation of character. On another page, one could write down those who were blamed for what was really our own fault. It could make one penitent, which means recognizing that the root of all our troubles lies within ourselves. How much do my neighbors have to put up with because of me, and how often does my egotism stand in the way of brotherly affection on their part? But a more serious question is: how often does this self-pity stand in the way of God's doing anything for me? I have so blocked up the cave of my mind that no light can enter. When the Master says to our Lazarus' soul, wrapped in the trappings of egotism, 'Come out,' we say, 'No, I want to stay here in the grave of my inner discontent.'"

July 25th Medjugorje Monthly Message

NOTE: We respectfully recognize and accept the final authority regarding apparitions, locutions and prophecies presently being reported around the world rests with the Holy See of Rome and the Magisterium of Holy Mother Church to whose judjment we humbly and obediently submit. Following is Our Lady's message for July:

The Gospa's message for July "Dear children! Do not forget that you are here on earth on the way to eternity and that your home is in Heaven. That is why, little children, be open to Godís love and leave egoism and sin. May your joy be only in discovering God in daily prayer. That is why, make good use of this time and pray, pray, pray; and God is near to you in prayer and through prayer. Thank you for having responded to my call."
