Saint Martha

Saturday is the Feast of Saint Martha, Disciple of the Lord. Often it is Martha who represents the Corporal Works of Mercy, while her sister Mary represents the Spiritual Works of Mercy. Both are important as are the balance of physical, daily labor and responsibilities with our need to spend quiet time in praise, adoration, petition and thanksgiving to God.

His Holiness sent his deepest regrets and sincere prayers to Archbishop Louis-Marie Bille, president of the French Bishops Conference to console the French and German people, especially friends and relatives of those German tourists and Air France crew and others who perished in the terrible Concorde disaster just outside Paris on Tuesday.

Pray to do God's Will

In her column this issue, Sister Mary Lucy Astuto shows how a simple needle and thread can weave souls into a mighty garment that will shine on many souls and be the armor God asks us to put on to protect us from the slings and arrows of those who would deter us from striving to fulfill the Divine Will every waking moment of our lives no matter where we are planted.

Pope St. Urban II originated the First Crusade

Saturday is the 901st anniversary of the death of Pope Saint Urban II, the holy Pontiff who established the "Truce of God" - a time-out, if you will, from war to bury the dead. This evolved because of the casualties suffered during the holy wars between Christian and Muslim during the tenth, eleventh and twelfth centuries that were called the "Crusades" with the first begun by Urban.

Dick Cheney

In our inaugural section of DEFEND LIFE we bring you several Pro-Life articles in our Pro-Life-Lines. Chief among them is that Alan Keyes has enthusiastically endorsed George W. Bush's selection of Richard Cheney as his running mate because Cheney's impeccable pro-life record mirrors Keyes' own strong stance. We can be assured then of a strong pro-life ticket.

Holy Father's Wednesday Audience will be included in Monday's issue
GIF images used with permission of EWTN    Because the ZENIT news had not come in as of late Thursday evening, California time, we are unable to bring you Pope John Paul II's General Papal Audience from this past Wednesday in St. Peter's Square. Though he is staying at his summer palace at Castel Gandolfo through August, he will be helicoptered to the Vatican each Wednesday to deliver his regular Wednesday Papal Address in St. Peter's Square. We will bring you the full text of his July 26th address in Monday's issue if it arrives in time. Thank you for your patience.

Sunday marks DAY 100 in Countdown to Election Day 2000!

This weekend we inaugurate our new section which we will carry through Election Day 2000 on November 7th. We are calling it DEFEND LIFE and in each issue we will carry stories that involve pro-life issues, under the heading of "PRO-LIFE-LINES." Most of these stories have been provided by Pro-Life Infonet along with ZENIT, CWN, NE and other sources. We refer you to our HOMEPORT ENTRY PAGE where you will find a typograph of a chalice, a chalice overflowing with the innocent blood of the aborted babies nearing 40 to 50 million. Enough is enough! The story and our purpose is outlined in this typograph and for more information and why we will not give up, see DEFEND LIFE
