Part of the Ceiling of St. Peter's
"With the Gospel of the Kingdom, Christ links Himself to the sacred Scriptures, which, through the royal image, celebrate the lordship of God over the cosmos and history."

His Holiness John Paul II spoke those words in his most recent Wednesday General Papal Audience on the Feast of Saint Nicholas in which the Holy Father expressed that for all of us, the Kingdom is Grace.

"Do not be afraid, little flock, for it has pleased your Father to give you the kingdom...For where your treasure is, there also will your heart be."    (Luke 12: 32, 34)

In today's issue we bring you Pope John Paul II's address from his most recent Wednesday General Papal Audience on December 6th. In addressing 30,000 in attendance at St. Peter's Square, His Holiness expressed that "the Kingdom is the effective but mysterious action that God carries out in the universe and in the tangle of human events. He conquers the resistance of evil with patience, not with overbearing force and clamor." He points out that, even though we are unaware of the ongoing process, God is working through us, in us and for us in providing on-going grace likening man to a mustard seed that grows amidst the neverending hustle and hubbub of world distractions because Jesus Christ, the Source of Grace, is in our midst and nourishing the soul always encouraging all to share the Kingdom of God with all through the Gospel of Christ in Divine Revelation. SECOND SUNDAY OF ADVENT
Advent Daily Novena Prayers for Advent
Heavenly angels and saints, you look down upon us in our earthly journey, this place of sorrow, and recognize what we are still striving to see - the Divinity of Jesus Christ, our God and Savior. We beseech you to help us to raise our hearts to Heaven, where they might be touched by Divine Love. Then, aflame with love, may we work ceaselessly to prepare not only our own hearts, but our whole world to proclaim Jesus as King and Messiah.

The DAILY WORD
Taken from the Gospel for Sunday's Mass

"The voice of one crying in the desert, 'Make ready the way of the Lord, make straight His paths. Every valley shall be filled, and every mountain and hill shall be brought low, and the crooked ways shall be made straight, and the rough ways smooth; and all mankind shall see the salvation of God."

Luke 3: 4-6

We are grateful to the artist Shannon Wirrenga (701-255-7312) for permission to use the phenomenal and touching original painting above of Jesus smiling at a newborn babe full of life, a life that He allows. It is appropriately titled "I Knew You," taken from Jeremiah 1: 5. No entity, matter or energy can exist without God and He alone gives and takes life. Life is the most precious gift we have been given. That is why we dedicate this section to the Sanctity of Life for so few realize the treasures it holds from conception to the grave.

Because the Pro-Life movement is so important to all Catholics, we are also very pleased to announce our association with PRO-LIFE COMMUNICATIONS, a telecommunications firm owned and operated by Joseph and Jane Dalton of St. Charles, Missouri. They are both devoted, staunch Catholics who have dedicated their lives to the Pro-Life cause for the sake of His little ones. We can't endorse their company and benefits enough. In addition, when you abandon AT&T, MCI, Sprint and all those others who contribute to abortion causes, you will not only be receiving better rates and people you can actually talk to rather than the ol' runaround, but for every person who signs up Pro-Life Communications will donate 100% of the net profits to help keep the DAILY CATHOLIC on line. It's a win-win-win situation that God richly blesses. It is not only a necessity to continue this ministry, but it's a necessity that every reader has the peace of mind of being with a phone company that is truly Pro-Life. We pray everyone will realize the need to make this commitment to help eradicate the culture of death.

The elections are over, but the battle for life is not. We cannot give up the fight. Please continue to pray for the Sanctity of Life and pray for those pro-abort candidates who were elected that they will have a conversion of heart and recognize the evil of their ways. Remember, nothing is impossible with God. We encourage you to go to the Pro-Life links below to keep up to date on the great battle between life and death - the Sanctity of Life vs. the culture of death led by pro-abort candidates and those who would advance murder, immorality, sodomy, perjury, etc.

Events that happened Today in Church History

Bishop SheenShortly before his death Archbishop Sheen met with Pope John Paul II    Today is the 21st anniversary of the death of one of the greatest orators of the 20th Century Archbishop Fulton J. Sheen the orthodox religious broadcaster, author and evangelist who came into American homes every Sunday evening on network TV with "Life is Worth Living" series, using only a chalkboard and an assertiveness that spoke volumes as a successor of the Apostles. In short, this 84-year-old prelate who died in New York City on this date, was the best thing that ever happened to the Catholic Church in the United States. He and his straightforward, loving style has been sorely missed ever since. Fortunately his series is now available each Friday evening on EWTN. Were there more Bishop Sheens in today's world, there would be far less psychologists and psychiatrists, and far, far fewer problems of accountability. Famous quotes of Bishop Fulton J. SheenBeaming in on the beam in our own eye

They say a picture is worth a thousand words, but the words of Bishop Fulton J. Sheen have been known to launch a thousand images in one's mind, one of the ways this late luminary did so much to evangelize the faith. Because of the urgency of the times and because few there are today who possess the wisdom, simplicity and insight than the late Archbishop who touched millions, we are bringing you daily gems from his writings. The good bishop makes it so simple that we have dubbed this daily series: "SIMPLY SHEEN".

"Why is it, on the one hand, when people firmly believe some religious truth, that they often consider others who refuse to accept that same truth as either stupid or bigoted? Why is it too, on the other hand, that others who have no compass or map in life, and who deny there is any truth or goodness, other than that which they decide for themselves, take a position of cynicism and ridicule in the face of the believer?"
