MAY FLOWERS: FOOD FOR THOUGHT APPETEASERS

This Sunday is Mother's Day and sometimes it is so difficult to find the perfect, priceless gift for Mom. First up is a prayer Mom's often say in a harried state of hazing and harassment called: A Mom's Harried Prayer: Now I lay me down to sleep. Also, below are some suggestions that should fit the bill as to the priceless gift for Mom in Priceless Gifts. They were sent by e-mail from DB and JR respectively and we are grateful to them for their submission.

A MOM'S HARRIED PRAYER: NOW I LAY ME DOWN TO SLEEP

Now I lay me down to sleep,
I pray my sanity to keep.
For if some peace I do not find,
I'm pretty sure I'll lose my mind.
      I pray I find a little quiet
Far from the daily family riot
May I lie back--not have to think
about what they're stuffing down the sink,
or who they're with, or where they're at
and what they're doing to the cat.
I pray for time all to myself
(did something just fall off a shelf?)
To cuddle in my nice, soft bed
      (Oh no, another goldfish--dead!)
Some silent moments for goodness sake
(Did I just hear a window break?)
And that I need not cook or clean--
(well heck, I've got the right to dream)
Yes now I lay me down to sleep,
I pray my wits about me keep,
But as I look around I know--
I must have lost them long ago!

PRICELESS GIFTS

    • 1) THE GIFT OF LISTENING...
      But you must REALLY listen.
      No interrupting, no daydreaming,
      no planning your response.
      Just listening.

    • 2) THE GIFT OF AFFECTION...
      Be generous with appropriate hugs,
kisses, pats on the back and handholds.
Let these small actions demonstrate the
love you have for family and friends.

    • 3) THE GIFT OF LAUGHTER...
Clip cartoons. Share articles and funny stories.
Your gift will say, "I love to laugh with you."

    • 4) THE GIFT OF A WRITTEN NOTE...
It can be a simple "Thanks for the help" note or a full sonnet.
A brief, handwritten note may be remembered for a lifetime,
and may even change a life.

    • 5) THE GIFT OF A COMPLIMENT...
A simple and sincere, "You look great in red,"
      "You did a super job"
or "That was a wonderful meal"
      can make someone's day.

    • 6) THE GIFT OF A FAVOR...
Every day, go out of your way
      to do something kind.

    • 7) THE GIFT OF SOLITUDE...
There are times when we want nothing better than to be left alone.
      Be sensitive to those times
and give the gift of solitude to others.

    • 8) THE GIFT OF A CHEERFUL DISPOSITION...
The easiest way to feel good is to extend a kind word to someone,
really it's not that hard to say,
      Hello or Thank You.

Friends are a very rare jewel, indeed. They make you smile and encourage you to succeed. They lend an ear, they share a word of praise, and they always want to open their hearts to us No friend is greater than your mother, either your earthly mother if she is still with you, or your Heavenly Mother Mary who is always with you. Show your friends how much you care. Send this to everyone you consider a FRIEND.
