President Clinton has been impeached and presently the trial is going on in
the Senate which may acquit or convict the President of lying under oath and obstructing justice.
There is a huge effort on the part of many people to convey an idea that it
would be bad for our country if Clinton is removed. According to the way they talk, it would seem that our
country just couldn’t survive the removal of this President.
It couldn’t? It is a fact that there have been several Presidents in the course of our
country’s history that died while in office. Abraham Lincoln, Franklin D. Roosevelt, John Kennedy to name a few.
Did our country collapse over their losses? Was our country paralyzed for their absences? Was the
government overthrown? Did the economy experience a downfall which was insurmountable? Did everyone in the
country grieve so badly that workplaces could not go on for months, weeks, or even days?
Were our founding fathers so ignorant that they were unable to foresee a
possible assassination, natural death or debilitating illness of a President that they did not make
provisions in the Constitution for such? Indeed, our founding fathers DID make provisions for the deaths of Presidents and for the REMOVAL of Presidents. Our country CAN survive without Clinton. Our founding fathers
have pre-arranged it.
Many other people claim that Mr. Clinton should be left alone because the
economy is good right now. Since when did the economy of our country ever depend on ONE PERSON? That is
a contention that is ludicrous! Furthermore, IF the economy DID depend on one person, my vote
would rest upon Alan Greenspan as the ONE person.
What is it about President Clinton that so many people are adamant about his
staying in office? Is it really Clinton as a person? Or is it what he stands for, his philosophies,
his abortion views, his liberal approaches to things?
Oh, I know Mr. Clinton has a certain charisma. He is a POLITICIAN par
excellence. He has proven that he can look his countrymen in the eye and lie to them. (That requires
practice, in my opinion.) Clinton exudes a certain indefinable power that makes people follow and
support him. The question is, however, does he have God’s blessings on his actions. If MONEY is the only
and first-most criterion for judging the nation’s leaders, the nation has not too far to go to become thoroughly
and totally paganistic.
Our founding fathers were God-fearing people. Not perfect, but nevertheless,
believers in right and wrong, eternal reward or punishment. They wanted this country to be one
nation UNDER GOD not under the Almighty DOLLAR.
I contend that if Mr. Clinton can lie under oath (for whatever reason) and get by with it, then all people in prison for perjury should be let loose. NO MAN should be above the law or below it. Let us pray that the "Rule of Law" survives the President’s trial. We must pray for this else corruption has taken hold in the highest office in our land.
The Italians have a saying: "The fish smells from the head." We should say, "Create in us a clean heart, O Lord, and renew a right spirit within us." If we don't pray we'll all wind up in the pot - as fish soup!
