Medjugorje Monthly Message

Countdown to the Millennium

Events in Church History
Pope Paul VI first Pope to set foot in Holy Land since Peter  Today marks the 35th anniversary of Pope Paul VI's historic pilgrimage to Israel and Jordan, becoming the first Sovereign Pontiff since Saint Peter to set foot on Holy Land soil during his pontificate. Pope John Paul II hopes to be the third Vicar of Christ to do so when he travels to the Holy Land, God willing, sometime in the Jubilee Year 2000. Medjugorje Monthly Message for DECEMBER 25th
The Gospa's message for December

Dear children! In this Christmas joy I desire to bless you with my blessing. In a special way, little children, I give you the blessing of little Jesus. May He fill you with His peace. Today, little children, you do not have peace and yet you yearn for it. That is why, with my Son Jesus, on this day I call you to pray, pray, pray, because without prayer you do not have joy or peace or a future. Yearn for peace and seek it, for God is true peace. Thank you for having responded to my call. For more on Medjugorje, click on MEDJUGORJE AND MORE

STATE OF THE SOUL ADDRESS
In today's editorial we begin the year as many statesmen are doing with their state of the state, state of the city or state of the union addresses. However, we are looking inward, presenting a spiritual barometer of where we are as we head down the home stretch toward the finish line leading to the Triumph of the Immaculate Heart. For today's commentary entitled With 360 to go we need to take heart and do a 180! , click on CATHOLIC PewPOINT.

Blessed Pope Urban V returns the papacy to Rome before tumult forces him to carry it back to Avignon
Pope Blessed Urban V       After the death of Pope Innocent VI the Sacred Conclave chose a man who was not one of them - not even a cardinal, but rather a pious, studious Benedictine abbot who chose to wear those same robes as Blessed Pope Urban V during his eight-year pontificate, one that found him doing something none of his six predecessors could do: lead the Holy See out of the Avignon exile and back to Rome. But Rome was not a hospitable host and, because of turmoil and the politics of that time, Urban returned the papacy to Avignon where he died shortly after returning fulfilling a prophecy told to him by Saint Bridget of Sweden. For the eighty-seventh installment titled Pope Blessed Urban V: A French abbot who abdicated Avignon for Rome but in the end had to return to his roots, click on THE HISTORY OF THE MASS AND HOLY MOTHER CHURCH.

Daily Dose of curious contents of the Church
Blessed Pope Urban V added the third crown to the tiara which is the diadem the Pope wore at his coronation and solemn non-liturgical ceremonies up until Pope John XXIII. It rises 15" and is circled by three ornamented crowns of gold, one upon the other. It represents the threefold authority of the Pope in the Magisterium of the Church - temporal, royal and spiritual powers. (source: The Catholic Encyclopedia, Thomas Nelson, Publishers)

"It is my faithful army who will keep the ember of the True Faith alive."
Immaculate and Sorrowful Heart of Mary       Those words of assurance from the Blessed Virgin Mary encompass the contents of the 335th Message in early May of 1993 as imparted to the Hidden Flower of the Immaculate Heart while she knelt at the seat of Holy Mother Church - St. Peter's Basilica in Rome. Our Lady warned of the forces that are out to silence His Holiness Pope John Paul II both inside the Vatican and outside and implores all her little ones to "keep the faith" and be obedient to her Divine Son Jesus's beloved Vicar on earth. In her message the day before Blessed Mary asks her children to take spiritual refuge first before thinking of physical refuge. For messages 334 and 335, click on "I SOLEMNLY TELL YOU..."

HEADLINES:
Pope to canonize three new saints Saturday; calls upon the the example of saintly heroes during two World Wars
Pope reminisces about saintly heroes of past wars      The Holy Father took the occasion during Mass at St. Peter's on World Day of Peace to remind all that true peace comes through the cross holding up such holy luminaries as Saint Maximilian Kolbe and Saint Edith Stein as true examples of heroic glory. It was also announced that he will add three more saints to the roster when he canonizes two priests and a nun on Saturday. For more, click on Saints.

Chief Catholic Chaplin rails at Clinton's order to bomb Iraq, advises troops to question morality of military orders
When it comes to morals Clinton is a vacuum       Archbishop Edwin O'Brien not only pulled no punches, but sent vibrations through the entire fabric of the United States Armed Forces when the head of the US Military Services spoke out strongly against Bill Clinton's questionable decision to bomb Iraq. He stated what we stated a few weeks ago in our editorial, if it is morally wrong, then even the soldiers must weigh the consequences for they must answer to a much Higher Source than the US commander-in-chief. For more, click on Artillery from the Archbishop.

Unspeakable tactics being employed to persecute and dishearten Catholic priests in the underground Church in China
China not pulling the wool over anyone's eyes       The reliable Fides News Agency reports shocking news out of China that numerous priests are being persecuted, tortured and tempted in an effort of the Chinese government to suppress the underground Catholic Church in China. Despite all the denials during the numerous fact-finding tours by religious and political leaders last year, the fact is they are lying through their teeth and Fides provides the sad facts to prove it. For more, click on chafed in China.

Lay group defies cardinal, demands glass confessionals to prevent child abuse
English modernists stirring up resentment against priests      Before a child abuse group goes too far in defying Cardinal Basil Hume's direct order, they should remember that those who live in glass houses shouldn't throw stones - the same goes for the ridiculous idea of glass confessional doors. Their rationale for distributing leaflets in his diocese is that with the see-through glass priests will not commit child abuse, even though they have no proof of any of this. It is a further degradation of priests on a whole to associate all priests with pedophilia which the Cardinal, head of Westminster, blamed on the media for spreading these lies and alarming the public, stirring them into a frenzy. Famous quotes of Bishop Fulton J. Sheen
SIMPLY SHEEN

They say a picture is worth a thousand words, but the words of Bishop Fulton J. Sheen have been known to launch a thousand images in one's mind, one of the ways this late luminary did so much to evangelize the faith. Because of the urgency of the times and because few there are today who possess the wisdom, simplicity and insight than the late Archbishop who touched millions, we are bringing you daily gems from his writings. The good bishop makes it so simple that we have dubbed this daily series: "SIMPLY SHEEN".

"Give a person a taste for the intellectual, the spiritual and the moral, and you make them happy."
