  • 1521 A.D.
  • Birth of Giambattista Castagna who would go on to become the 228th successor of Peter as Pope Urban VII. Unfortunately his papacy lasted only 13 days for he died of malaria at the Vatican.

  • 1859 A.D.
  • Death of Saint John Baptist Vianney, priest and confessor. For more on this humble saint, see DAILY LITURGY.

  • 1879 A.D.
  • Pope Leo XIII issues his third encyclical Aeterni Patris on the restoration of Christian philosophy. This would lead to a revival of scholastic philosophy and a rise in the philosophy promoted by the great Doctor of the Church Saint Thomas Aquinas.
