Click here to go to graphics version The Greater Antiphons, or 'O Antiphons' - because each of the seven antiphons during the seven days leading up to the Vigil of Christmas - contain, as Dom Gueranger said, the "whole marrow" of the Advent Liturgy. They have been likened to the Seven Gifts of the Holy Ghost as well. They stretch from December 17 to December 23.

The Rosary of Mary is our most powerful weapon. Click on the Rosary button above to recite the full Rosary in either English or Latin.

Third Lateran Council
Pope Alexander III called the third Council at the Lateran Basilica because once again a General Council had to be called to undo the damage done by antipopes Victor IV and others. The Council also set as mandatory that the election of the Roman Pontiff must be by two-thirds of the majority of cardinals voting, establishing the Sacred Conclave as the voting body. The Council condemned the heresies of Albigenses and Waldenses. For the full documents of the eleventh Ecumenical Council see LATERAN THREE
Catholic PewPOINT
With Christmas just around the corner, Editor Michael Cain shares a parable with kids that should open the eyes of many adults as well about the story of 'Saint Nick' and the meaning of 'Christmas.' As bad as it would be if children didn't believe in Santa Claus, how much worse it would be if the elves diminished the true meaning of Christmas because they didn't believe, as Cain points out in his commentary, that 'Once Upon a Time there was something wonderful called Tradition'
Christ or chaos
Dr. Tom Droleskey continues his series on G.I.R.M. Warfare. He comments on paragraph 74, 75 and 76 on the schizophrenic nature of the changes if the Novus Ordo and how the Lavabo has lost the meaning it was intended in the 'sanitized' New Mass that seeks to mix the colors of ambiguity as Tom explains in his 34th installment Awash in Ambiguity!
Echoes of True Catholicism
Dr. Marian Horvat continues her series with a look in this issue of how the Holy Father himself has helped fuel the liberation movement for feminism through his encyclicals in advancing the Vatican II liberalism that is helping alter the intended roles God for which created man and woman. "The New Feminism" has demasculated man and, in the process, weakened the woman's dignity as Dr. Horvat points out in part eleven of The Egalitarian Revolution
The Twelve Promises of the Sacred Heart
We present in this issue the excellent work by Father Joseph McDonnell, S.J. first written during the Pontificate of Pope Saint Pius X and which, now out of print, Catholic Family News has given us permission to reprint following their publishing of it. It is a beautiful meditation and commentary that should encourage more devotion to the Most Sacred Heart of Jesus as we continue with Part Three - Meditation on Promise #1
Standing with the Church Militant On the BattleLine
In this issue Atila Sinke Guimar„es poses the question: With all the apologies for the Crusades issued by the Pope and bishops and others, such as a self-appointed righteous group of 500 unenlightened non-historians and non-theologians who marched into Jerusalem last year, who is speaking out for the Popes, Saints and devoted Crusaders who gave their lives and souls for Christ's Church Militant in living up to the Gospel? Once again revisionists choose to change not only history itself, but alter cause and effect to justify their own ends. The Counter-Crusade
Precious Gift of our Faith
Catechetical Apologetic Series based on My Catholic Faith on the Most Blessed Sacrament and the Holy Sacrifice of the Mass. The 252nd installment of "Appreciating the Precious Gift of the Faith" provides the answers of how we can restore the lost reverence for the Mass of the Faithful by adhering to the unchangeable rubrics with part seven Thanksgiving to the End of the Holy Mass
The Sanity of Sanctity
In this issue we present the third in a new series which outlines a return to reverence leading toward holiness. Yet to reach that direction, one must first know what is not holy, what takes one away from true Catholic teaching. This series will include articles that address these issues. Through the good graces and permission of John Vennari of Catholic Family News we present the first set of articles, with part three of an excellent feature by Cornelia R. Ferreira on Our Blessed Mother and the Return to Holiness
Exspectans exspectavimus 'Ecclesia Dei'
The great danger Jansenism perpetrated on the Church that led to the French Revolution was that orthodox bishops did not speak out against heresy, preferring to go along in order to get along. Sound familiar? Fr. Peter R. Scott illustrates this same parallel with what has happened in the post-conciliar Church and how men like Bishop Castro Mayer warned it was happening and no one listened as we see in Fr. Peter's article The modus operandi of Jansenism
Pro Life Prescriptions
Dr. Frank Joseph lambasts the American Medical Association for their disregard of the Hippocratic Oath by denying the causes and effects that have de-moralized body and soul. The great sell-out ranges from condoning sodomy and other perversions to not standing in the way of Planned Barrenhood and the rest of the hate mongers who rail against the culture of life as Dr. Frank documents in his column The AMA's Hypothesis of the Hippocratic Oath is Hypocritical!
Liturgy of the Saints
During the third week of Advent the liturgical season is properly set to prepare for Christmas with the Greater Antiphons that run from December 17 to December 23. See to the right. Wednesday, Friday and Saturday are Ember Days which mean days of fasting and sacrifice with Friday being a day of abstinence. Though the bishops' conferences have downplayed these necessary and grace-filled penances, the Holy Father's call for a day of fasting and abstinence on December 14 gives a glimpse of hope that the post-conciliar Church will return to observing Ember Days as they have been observed since the 5th century. In the Traditional calendar Friday is the Feast of Saint Thomas the Apostle and Saturday the Feast of Saint Frances Xavier Cabrini, celebrated in the new liturgy two weeks earlier. For reflections on Gaudete Sunday - the Third Sunday of Advent, see Fr. Cusick's reflections
The Great Sacrilege
Father James F. Wathen, O.S.J. has granted permission to publish his entire work which was first published by Tan Books in 1972, and which we urge you to read for everything he wrote back then is backed by the solid depositum fidei - the Sacred Deposit of the Faith and still holds true. It takes up where the Ottaviani Intervention left off as you'll see in Part One of Chapter Four - The New Mass .
Simply Sheen
Archbishop Fulton J. Sheen illustrates that just as the structure of speech demands grammar, so also conscience demands revelation to be fulfilled in its purpose. We are not animals, we are creatures special to God Who gave us a conscience so that we might choose to be with Him forever as the Bishop points out in Conscience has a Higher Power it must answer to!
White Smoke, Black Fire!
In the fourth episode of Chapter Four in Part II - "The Smoldering" we find a weary, exhausted Pat Gallagher, on assignment for the Metroplex Mirror, continuing to sift through the ruins on the Field of Death. The mysterious Niki Andriopoulos reappears and, shortly, makes Pat an offer he cannot refuse. Little does Pat know what lies beyond Niki's invitation of a hot shower, soft bed and breakfast at a palatial oasis estate 75 miles south in Kuwait near the Iraqi border.
Test your knowledge of the Faith and Church History:
The apostolic tradition of Ember Days, decreed by Pope Saint Callistus in 221, had been observed faithfully since then up until the new liturgy was foisted on the faithful following Vatican II. How many Ember Days of prayer and fasting should be observed during the liturgical year?

Answer to last quiz: For those who have been following their Missal or know their scriptures, they knew that it was Achaz to whom the Lord prophesied the coming of the Messiah: "Therefore the Lord Himself shall give you a sign. Behold a virgin shall conceive, and bear a son, and His name shall be called Emmanuel" (Isaias 7: 14). Achaz ruled Juda from 742-726 B.C. and was the grandson of Ozias or Ussiah who ruled the same from 810-758 B.C. The others all preceded Achaz. Juda followed Abraham, Isaac and Jacob and ruled from 1768-1715 B.C. David, father of Solomon (1033-980 B.C.), ruled Palestine from 1085 to 1033 B.C. It is interesting to note that Christ is called the Son of David who came from the root of Jesse, the King when the Jewish Monarchy began in 1095 B.C.
