The video stores are a favorite haunt for many who rent the latest releases, few seldom checking the ratings or even the reviews. In this issue, Marian Therese Horvat, Ph.D. keys you in on the dangers of being swept up by the hype of the industry, media, and critics, all of whom are at the forefront of portraying evil as something good and good as evil that the people must be liberated from. A prime example of this is the film Chocolat, just recently released. So cleverly has the film drawn the audience in and, just as the seductress in the movie, so also satan grabs a gullible public, imbedding in their minds that Catholicism - traditional Catholicism is a roadblock and an outmoded opponent of all your dreams. One of the saddest commentaries to this whole modern culture is the failure of the hierarchy to recognize these dangers and to speak out stronger in defense of Holy Mother Church. Why, oh why, did Rome not heed the sage wisdom of Cardinal Ottaviani and the International Group of Fathers?

The Sacrifice at Calvary

   In our 235th installment of our catechetical series on My Catholic Faith we continue our series on the most august Sacrament of the Most Holy Eucharist with part five, the Mass and Calvary that further explains the fulfillment of His Own Sacrifice for us and re-enacted at every Holy Sacrifice of the Mass since that time. This series will delve extensively in future issues into the meaning of the Holy Sacrifice of the Mass. At the words spoken by the priest at the Consecration in the Canon of the Mass, the bread and wine are confected into the Body and Blood of Jesus Christ. Those words, spoken by Christ, are gleaned from Matthew 26: 26-28, Mark 14: 22-24, and Luke 22: 19-20. We all need to be Good Samaritans
