Window to the womb!

"Is that my baby?" "How is it moving?" "Is that her little hand waving at us?" "I feel like I have just met my new baby girl! I can't go through with the abortion now!"

A properly trained medical technician at your local crisis pregnancy clinic may hear these words several times throughout the day, but I am sure that she never gets tired of hearing them! Without a doubt, the most powerful and fruitful tool that a crisis pregnancy center can have in their facility is an ultrasound machine. Very few of our nations pregnancy centers have been blessed with this technology so far. The centers that have an ultrasound machine are producing tremendous results. For example, Dorothy Wallis of the Pregnancy Care Center of Baton Rouge, LA reports that 98% of women who have an ultrasound choose to carry to term. Some say that, if every woman considering an abortion was required to have an Ultrasound and counseling, abortion would be reduced by 90%. Wow!

For almost three decades, ultra-sound technology has provided parents with a miraculous window to the womb. This common diagnostic technique uses harmless sound waves, sent by a handheld transducer rubbed over the mother's belly, which bounce off the developing baby. Echoes from these waves are converted to sonograms, which can be seen on video and captured in print. The latest advances produce amazing three-dimensional views.

If you are the parent of a child born in the past twenty years, you have probably witnessed this amazing technology. I personally have viewed the live ultrasound from five of our children and I have been blown away each time! Tears come to my eyes as soon as our doctor turns the machine on. The same butterflies are active in my stomach during an ultrasound that are with me during labor and delivery. We keep the ultrasound pictures in our photo album along with the other pictures of our children. After all, they are pictures of our children.

Ultrasound is an innovation that not only affirms life, it also saves lives. We who believe in the sanctity of human life can do more good, more immediately by helping to spread this technology across the country. In other words, if you want your donation dollars to pro-life to make the most dramatic impact (save the most lives), donate towards the purchase of an ultrasound machine!

The National Institute of Family & Life Advocates (NIFLA) is the leader in equipping our crisis pregnancy centers with Ultrasound technology. NIFLA's "Life Choice Project" empowers the centers with legal advice, technical support, the ultrasound machine and all of the training necessary to become a medical center that can perform ultrasounds.

I spoke with Thomas Glessner, NIFLA's president and founder, earlier this week. I asked him how much it cost to convert a center to a clinic. "About $50,000" he said. He explained that the ultrasound machine is about half of the cost involved. The rest is in training and in legal expenses. If only one life were saved for this amount, it would be more than worth it. In each case, these machines literally save thousands of lives! No other investment could have a more dramatic return!

Our loving Pontiff once said "Every human person - no matter how vulnerable or helpless, no matter how young or how old, no matter how healthy, handicapped or sick, no matter how useful or productive for society - is a being of inestimable worth created in the image and likeness of God. " (Pope John Paul II at the Detroit Airport on 19 September, 1987).

If there is anything we can possibly do to save these children of "inestimable worth," we need to go ahead and do it! If you have the means to donate to NIFLA, please send your tax deductible donations to

    PO Box 42060

You can also donate from their web-site at

If you are not able to donate to NIFLA at this time, I ask that you pray for their success, that our Heavenly Father abundantly bless their ministry. It is the success of organizations like NIFLA that hold the key to ending this holocaust!
