The Papal Powers to Govern and Teach are in jeopardy, and if those are diminished so also will be the Power to Sanctify!

In our commentary today on the Feast of Saint Pius V and the Feast of Saint Catherine of Siena (yesterday and today), we alert the reader to the alarming scenario that is playing out and ask all to pray and be watchful just as St. Catherine was and so many saints who did all in their power to preserve the Faith in the face of schism and apostasy, in the face of satan's relentless assaults on Holy Mother Church. It was the Dominican Tertiary from Siena who followed God's Holy Will in bringing the Papacy back to Rome. It was the holy Pontiff Pius V who set in stone the final layer of doctrine regarding the Sacred Liturgy that remained in tact until Vatican II. Now on the brink of a month that will determine the direction the Church will take either toward preserving the four marks given it by Christ or in sinking deeper in schism, we ask all to pray and be watchful! Be very watchful and don't be duped. For our editorial Please, dear God, don't allow the rock to be crushed into smaller stones!, see CATHOLIC PewPOINT

Warn the sheep! The wolves are howling for another council and soon!

"This would also affect their assertion that any and all theologians are to be consulted as well as the 'opinion' of the 'People of God'. So, on a number of 'hot issues', in order to change Church teaching, Vatican III would have to say that Vatican I and II (among others) were anathema, condemned as wrong. Yet, in order for Vatican III to be valid, it would have to embrace these and all other Councils. So, it's doubtful that this Council would do this since to do so would mean that this Council would be invalid as well."

In his column today, Pat Ludwa speculates on the possibility of several key progressives coercing the Pope into either stepping down or calling a Third Vatican Council. The liberals' darling Cardinal Carlo Martini of Milan who has long promoted this is now no longer just the "lone wolf" but has been joined in the pack by several modernists just awarded the red-hat. Pat first wrote this in 1999. Now, nearly two years later it is sadly becoming closer to reality. If this plays out as many are predicting, it could play into the hands of the dissidents - such as Call To Action - and cater to their demands as they seem to think. Yet Pat's take is that it could backfire in their face because past Ecumenical Councils dictate the only action a valid council could take in affirming Vatican II would be to declare this liberal lugnut and all parasites like it as anathema. But the wolves continue to howl. For Pat's column, Could the upcoming consistory signal another Council and another Pope? see VIEW FROM THE PEW

Before Vatican II and Renew we didn't have problems with liturgical abuses in the unchangeable Holy Sacrifice of the Mass!

"Given the lack of supervision of liturgical matters from Rome (and a similar lack of supervision on the part of many bishops, many of whom have let the infamous Renew program redirect the celebration of a parish's 'Sunday worship experience'), Paragraph 20 effectively means that anyone can do anything he wants with the liturgy as long as it can be connected to the 'needs' of circumstance and place, as well as an attempt to claim that those local adaptations are done in the interests of the spiritual well-being of the people. Please, spare me."

In today's issue Thomas A. Droleskey, Ph.D. brings us the fourteenth part of his fascinating, logical, factual and frank treatise on ferreting out the doublespeak and contradictions contained in the General Instruction to the Roman Missal (GIRM) which has confused so many and, instead of clearing up abuses, only is a license to experiment some more, all contributing to the continuing deconstruction of the Holy Sacrifice of the Mass that sustained the Church and her faithful for some 1,500 years. For his column, 'Renew' by dissing the tried and True? see CHRIST or chaos

Archbishop Rembert Weakland: We implore you to call Wisconsin Congressman Jerry Kleczka to task for his sorrowful pro-abort stance.

Today's "Herod's Hero" is yesterday's "Herod's Helper." He is none other than Jerry Kleczka representing the state's 4th District in the U.S. House of Representatives. He could do so much more for the culture of life, but, by his lukewarmness in his voting record, he is unwittingly empowering the culture of death. There's nothing honorable about how he, as a 'Catholic,' went from a lukewarm 50% to below that with his vote last week against the Pro-Life measure to protect the unborn against acts of violence. By his shameful vote he has earned his ignominious spot on this list. We call on him to repent and for his archbishop in Milwaukee Archbishop Rembert G. Weakland, O.S.B. along with Kleczka's shepherd in Washington D.C. Cardinal Theodore McCarrick, to issue the ultimatum of the "Bell, Book, and Candle" if he will not hear even the Church. We beg of the Bishops, to stand up for the Roman Catholic Church, to exact the discipline all Catholics are expected to follow. By Barrett's pitiful 45% pro-abortion record during his ten terms in the House, he has turned away from God by showing a disdain for Catholic doctrine and being a willing accomplice to satan. We implore him to amend his ways, to turn away from embracing the pro-abort stance with no mercy for the lives of millions of unborn. For another betrayer who seeks to perpetuate the culture of death and slay the innocents, see HEROD'S HEROES

Pope elevates five new Blesseds as Puerto Rico goes wild!

From San Juan to Vieques, from Mayaguez to Cieba, from Caguas to Rome Puerto Ricans celebrated the beatification of one of their own - their first Blessed Carlos Manuel Rodríguez Santiago in St. Peter's Square yesterday as Pope John Paul II also beatified four others to bring the total to a staggering 1,232 Blesseds during his Papacy, plus 477 new saints in the twenty-two and a half years the Holy Father has sat on the Papal Throne. For more, see Beatifications today

St. Pius V Victory snatched from the jaws of death by a holy Pope who relied on the power of Heaven

Today is the Feast of Pope Saint Pius V, 225th successor of Peter who is renowned for his fidelity to the doctrines and establishing the Sacred Liturgy as forever stable and unchangeable. It was Pius who rallied the faithful to pray the Rosary for the victory at Lepanto. In the traditional liturgy established by Pius V, it is the Feast of St. Catherine of Siena, which, in the new liturgy, was celebrated yesterday though it was superseded by the Sunday liturgy. Tomorrow we celebrate the Feast of Saint Joseph the Worker. For today and tomorrow's liturgies, see DAILY LITURGY

"Do not labor for the food that perishes, but for that which endures unto life everlasting, which the Son of Man will give you. For upon Him the Father, God Himself has set His seal." John 6: 27

Opening Prayer for Saint Pius V

Father, You chose St. Pius V as Pope of Your Church to protect the faith and give You more fitting worship. By his prayers help us to celebrate Your holy mysteries with a living faith and effective love.

The 1,690th anniversary of the first edict of tolerance for Christians

Many believe it was the Roman emperor Constantine the Great who issued the edict to stop the persecutions of Christians, but in effect it was the emperor Galerius just before him who actually issued the first edict of toleration that effectively ended three centuries of terrible persecution of those who defied all odds and followed a Man Who had died. Because of His death and Resurrection, they willingly shed their own blood and that provided the seeds of Christianity. Also on this day no less than four Popes - from Pope Clement XIV to Pope Benedict XV in the 20th century - issued encyclicals. Flattery: Blarney or Baloney?

"The opposite form of insincerity is flattery. As we have said before, there are two kinds of flattery: blarney and baloney. Blarney is the varnished truth; baloney is the unvarnished lie. Blarney is flattery laid on so thin, you like it; baloney is flattery laid on so thick, you hate it. The amount of flattery one spreads on another depends either on how much one wishes to exalt his own ego, or on how much one wishes to deceive the ego of the hearer. Rare are those who use such restraint in flattery in order to delude others into asking them to 'say that again. Because it is perhaps all too true of those in high places, the following doggerel is laughingly told:
To the Bishop as he mounted
for the first time to his throne
      bent the princely Consecrator
      with his confidential tone:
Two things only in this office
      merit certainty, forsooth:
      Nevermore to pay for dinner.
      Nevermore to hear the truth."
