Saint Augustine
Why Saint Augustine is the ideal saint for all to emulate today in these times when so many are searching for answers and not finding satisfaction until their hearts rest in God.

Sister Mary Lucy Astuto   In her column this week, Sister Mary Lucy Astuto points out the vices and virtues Saint Augustine lived and, because of the former, all can relate to the fact that he was a great sinner who committed practically every sin, but, through the power of God and the relentless intercession of his mother Saint Monica, Augustine eventually came to his senses after he had tried everything else. He himself said, in one of his most famous quotes, "Our hearts are restless until they rest in Thee." So true, and because of this, Sister suggests he is the ideal saint - the ideal role model for all to be encouraged by, for he responded to Christ's words, "Your sins are forgiven, go and sin no more!" We all need to practice what he preached and lived...after his conversion. For those who aren't there yet, Sister assures them not to despair, just read his "Confessions" and that will give one all the encouragement in the world to shed sin and embrace the graces of God. Cardinal Joseph Ratzinger Church to reestablish meaning of "No Salvation outside the Church" Doctrine in Dominus Jesus
Tuesday, September 5th Cardinal Joseph Ratzinger, Prefect of the Congregation for the Doctrine of the Faith will release a 25-page document entitled Dominus Jesus which will clarify the Church doctrine of "No Salvation Outside the Church." The document will illustrate how the teaching has not changed, only the interpretation of it on both the left and right extremes. It will also admit that the Holy Spirit is indeed present in other faiths and those not Catholic can be saved if they believe in Christ Jesus, but it also reaffirms that the Roman Catholic Church is the only one with the fullness of the Holy Spirit and the four marks, not present in other religions and that the Church founded by Our Lord is the sure way to eternal life through the sacramental nature of the Church. more

Abomination of the desolation of the temple very near as radical left rules Millennium World Peace Summit
Ted Turner   The Vatican document could not have come at a better time considering the heresy that is spewing forth from the United Nations' trumped-up Millennium World Peace Summit of supposed religious leaders just concluded in New York in which the heavily loaded radical left arm voted to accept that all religions are equal. With avowed anti-Catholic Ted Turner pulling the strings, the puppets of the One-World Order will all sign it, save for Cardinal Francis Arinze representing the Vatican who will refuse to sign such heresy. What this aberration does is legitimize any and all abuses against Christianity and unfortunately pave the way for the "abomination of the desolation of the temple." more

Most Holy Heart of Jesus, shower Your blessings abundantly upon Your holy Church, upon the Supreme Pontiff, and upon all the clergy and religious. Grant perseverance to the just, convert sinners, and enlighten unbelievers. Bless our relatives, friends, and benefactors. Assist the dying, deliver the holy souls in Purgatory, and extend over all hearts the gentle empire of Your love. To You, most merciful Heart of Jesus, we commend all these souls, and in their behalf we offer to You all Your merits in union with the merits of Your most Blessed Mother and of all the Angels and Saints, together with all the Masses, Communions, prayers, and good works which are being offered this day throughout Christendom.

Taken from the Gospel for Friday's Mass

"Then will the kingdom of Heaven be like ten virgins who took their lamps and went forth to meet the bridegroom and the bride. Five of them were foolish and five wise. But the five foolish, when they took their lamps, took no oil with them, while the wise did take oil in their vessels with the lamps.hole mind."

Events that happened Today in Church History

Blessed Pope Gregory X    Today is the 729th anniversary of the election in 184th successor of Peter, Blessed Pope Gregory X on this date in 1271 A.D. Before his elevation to the Papal Throne he was the simple priest Archdeacon Tedaldo Visconti - a dear and trusted friend of two of the giants of the Church scholar-wise - the Dominican Saint Thomas Aquinas and the Franciscan Saint Bonaventure. He was elected by the Conclave in Viturbo and the vox populi was so strong for the Cardinals to elect a Pope that they took extreme measures to motivate the College of Cardinals, going so far as to remove the roof of the conclave and restricted the prelates to only bread and water, thus expediting their decision for they had taken much too long in deliberation - three years - and the people wanted to expedite the process. They did and Gregory was unanimously selected. Three years later he convened the 14th Ecumenical Council in Lyons which reunited the Church with the Greeks and enacted reforms that were necessary for discipline. He died on January 10, 1276 after a four and a half year pontificate. For other time capsule events that happened Today in Church history, see MILLENNIUM MILESTONES AND MEMORIES

Famous quotes of Bishop Fulton J. SheenThe Age of Bad Conscience

They say a picture is worth a thousand words, but the words of Bishop Fulton J. Sheen have been known to launch a thousand images in one's mind, one of the ways this late luminary did so much to evangelize the faith. Because of the urgency of the times and because few there are today who possess the wisdom, simplicity and insight than the late Archbishop who touched millions, we are bringing you daily gems from his writings. The good bishop makes it so simple that we have dubbed this daily series: "SIMPLY SHEEN".

"We live in what might be called the Age of Bad Conscience. We cover it up by denying responsibility; we find scapegoats; we attack religion and all who have to do with conscience as if their extinction might give us immunity from that distinction between right and wrong. If any science is unpopular today it is certainly theology, particularly when couched in the language of reason and concepts which are alien to our moods and frustrations. But this does not mean there is no religion in modern man. There is; but it has moved from the area of conscience to the subconscious. "
