Events that happened Today in Church History
Today is the 83rd anniversary of the final apparition of Fatima in which, as promised, the sun did spin, witnessed by 70,000. They called it "the day the sun danced." It was Our Lady's final message to the three children Blessed Jacinta and Francisco Marto who would die relatively soon after the apparitions, and Lucia who went on to become a contemplative nun and was present for the beatification of the other two children at Fatima on May 13th this year, the anniversary of the first apparition at Fatima. Enhancing this occasion this year was the fact that the much-anticipated Third Secret was revealed which greatly incorporated the Pope's role in the message and mission of Fatima. In addition, last week the famed Fatima statue was brought to Rome and the Holy Father entrusted the world and the new millennium to Mary. Truth is like a precious metal
They say a picture is worth a thousand words, but the words of Bishop Fulton J. Sheen have been known to launch a thousand images in one's mind, one of the ways this late luminary did so much to evangelize the faith. Because of the urgency of the times and because few there are today who possess the wisdom, simplicity and insight than the late Archbishop who touched millions, we are bringing you daily gems from his writings. The good bishop makes it so simple that we have dubbed this daily series: "SIMPLY SHEEN".
"Truth is like the veins of metal in the earth; it is often very thin and runs not in a continuous layer. If we lose it once, we may have to dig for miles to find it again."
