A Special Novena in Preparation for the Solemnity of the Immaculate Conception of the Blessed Virgin Mary starts Today

Blessed Pope Pius IX proclaims the Dogma of the Immaculate ConceptionThe Immaculate Conception    Our country is consecrated to the Immaculate Conception of the Blessed Virgin Mary and in these times when satan is so furiously trying to choke the life out of so many, we turn to Our Lady in supplication as Mother of Prompt Succor, pleading with her to preserve the United States and return this beloved country, founded upon God's principles that "all men are created equal, endowed by their Creator with the unalienable [inalienable] rights of life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness." Today all three are greatly jeopardized as so many misinterpret the pure intent of our founding fathers and God's Will for His people. They did not found our great country on majority rules which would basically be democracy, nor that rights come from the state or the federal government, but from God. Because of that there can be no separation of Church and state. For man is free to worship, to live, to be free and to seek happiness. This can only happen through God, not man. Man has a free will and therefore can choose not to, but he has no right to impose his wrongs on others. We are protected under the law of the land - the Constitution - the foundation of this country - and laws such as Roe vs. Wade are unconstitutional and therefore, cannot be recognized. In order to overturn these errors, we need to continue to pray to Our Lady who is the greatest intercessor before the Holy Trinity Thus, beginning today on the Feast of Saint Andrew, we present a nine-day Novena leading up to the glorious Solemnity of Mary's Immaculate Conception. It is taken from the Treasury of Novenas by Father Lawrence G. Lovasik, S.V.D. and published by the Catholic Book Company. See NOVENA

Appreciation for the Fourth Commandment of God
Honor thy Father and thy Mother

Duties of Superiors and Elected Officials
Today we continue our series in the search to uncover the wonderful treasures of the Church contained in the great Deposit of Faith. Because of glitches with Network Solutions and our server, many were unable to access these pages last week. Therefore, we present again the third part on the Fourth Commandment as explained in My Catholic Faith. The Ten Commandments are the foundation of our moral code set down by God and the Fourth Commandment - "Honor thy Father and thy Mother" emphasizes the need for obedience to the authority which God has established through His creation of the family. Today, especially, we are inundated by the world, the flesh and the devil's disrespect for authority and the rightful authority of the parents over the children. Society has undermined the institution of marriage and the foundation of the family which is greatly threatened by the culture of death. There is a responsibility that other superiors such as employers and those in public office must also adhere to for the general welfare of all. That is what we deal with today for in union with the family it is the only way civilization can survive by acknowledging, respecting and obeying these God-given laws. This is outlined in today's installment, "Duties of Other Superiors" which is pertinent considering the political tailspin we've been thrown into. For the 207th installment, see APPRECIATING THE PRECIOUS GIFT OF OUR FAITH

Lord, in Your kindness hear our petitions. You called Andrew the Apostle to preach the gospel and to guide Your Church in faith. May he always be our friend in Your presence to help us with his prayers.

    The DAILY WORD
Taken from the Gospel for Thursday's Mass

"As He was walking by the sea of Galilee, He saw two brothers, Simon, who is called Peter, and his brother Andrew, casting a net into the sea (for they were fishermen). And He said to them, 'Come, follow Me, and I will make you fishers of men.'"

    Matthew 4: 18-19

Events that happened Today in Church History

Pope Pius VIII   Today is the 170th anniversary of day in 1830 when Pope Pius VIII, the 253rd successor of Peter, died after a one and a half year pontificate. He was born in Cingoli, Italy in 1761 during the papacy of Pope Clement XIII. It was Pius VIII who began the Vatican Postal Service and strengthened missionary activity around the world. He helped the Armenian people in his negotiations with the Sultan, something Pope John Paul II credited during his Papal Visit to Armenia last year. Famous quotes of Bishop Fulton J. SheenThe only way to solve the hunger problem

They say a picture is worth a thousand words, but the words of Bishop Fulton J. Sheen have been known to launch a thousand images in one's mind, one of the ways this late luminary did so much to evangelize the faith. Because of the urgency of the times and because few there are today who possess the wisdom, simplicity and insight than the late Archbishop who touched millions, we are bringing you daily gems from his writings. The good bishop makes it so simple that we have dubbed this daily series: "SIMPLY SHEEN".

"The problem is the whole world is dying of hunger - the Eastern world is dying of hunger of body; the Western world is dying of hunger of soul. The first will be fed, but not by those who hate liberty when they give them flour; the Western world will be saved by feeding the East while recognizing their own hunger of the Spirit and by seeking again the true King of Hearts Who alone gives 'The Bread of Life'."

We are grateful to the artist Shannon Wirrenga (701-255-7312) for permission to use the phenomenal and touching original painting above of Jesus smiling at a newborn babe full of life, a life that He allows. It is appropriately titled "I Knew You," taken from Jeremiah 1: 5. No entity, matter or energy can exist without God and He alone gives and takes life. Life is the most precious gift we have been given. That is why we dedicate this section to the Sanctity of Life for so few realize the treasures it holds from conception to the grave.

Because the Pro-Life movement is so important to all Catholics, we are also very pleased to announce our association with PRO-LIFE COMMUNICATIONS, a telecommunications firm owned and operated by Joseph and Jane Dalton of St. Charles, Missouri. They are both devoted, staunch Catholics who have dedicated their lives to the Pro-Life cause for the sake of His little ones. We can't endorse their company and benefits enough. In addition, when you abandon AT&T, MCI, Sprint and all those others who contribute to abortion causes, you will not only be receiving better rates and people you can actually talk to rather than the ol' runaround, but for every person who signs up Pro-Life Communications will donate 100% of the net profits to help keep the DAILY CATHOLIC on line. It's a win-win-win situation that God richly blesses. It is not only a necessity to continue this ministry, but it's a necessity that every reader has the peace of mind of being with a phone company that is truly Pro-Life. We pray everyone will realize the need to make this commitment to help eradicate the culture of death.

The elections are over, but the battle for life is not. We cannot give up the fight. Please continue to pray for the Sanctity of Life and pray for those pro-abort candidates who were elected that they will have a conversion of heart and recognize the evil of their ways. Remember, nothing is impossible with God. We encourage you to go to the Pro-Life links below to keep up to date on the great battle between life and death - the Sanctity of Life vs. the culture of death led by pro-abort candidates and those who would advance murder, immorality, sodomy, perjury, etc.
