Recently, I attended an annual Right to Life dinner held locally.
Because I was asked to be the
"entertainment" for the night (I sang some songs), I was privileged to sit
at the head table with nine notable pro-life activists. Among those was Adam Cardinal Maida of Detroit,
Michigan. What a humble and godly Prince of the Church!
Cardinal Maida had been an attorney before being ordained a priest. He
speaks Polish, Latin, Italian, and English. And what a blessing he is!
Within the last few years, a bill in Michigan allowing euthanasia was to
come before the people for a vote. The odds were against those who were for life by 3 to 1.
Cardinal Maida organized an education program which involved not only the priests and Catholic laity, but
also all Protestant ministers and their congregations in Michigan. After about five weeks of this effort,
the people of Michigan went to the polls to vote.
The bill was defeated by a 3 to1 margin. The pro-life
position had taken charge and won, thanks to Cardinal Maida's great leadership.
Cardinal Maida's leadership and example are a source of great
encouragement. It shows what can be done to defeat the culture of death that surrounds and nearly drowns us.
How we need such organization and effort across our land!
I sense a growing power of people wanting our next President to be FOR
life in all of its stages. Would that all people will come to understand that unless the "love" to kill
stops and is reversed in this country, this world, we will come to destroy ourselves.
In Scripture God says: "Choose life!" The Constitution of the United
States reads that all Americans have the right to LIFE, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness. So
how is it that Supreme Court Justices can sanction the killing of the unborn? Because there is a
difference between knowledge and wisdom and even Supreme Court Justices can lack Wisdom.
Every species generates it own kind. Dogs have puppies which are basically dog "babies;" cats have
kittens which are basically cat "babies." Humans have human babies. What is in an expectant woman is living, the cells are multiplying. No woman has ever had an rock for a baby or a piece of coal! So what is growing within her is human.
At the moment of conception, God creates a human soul for the new
"life." That new "life," then, is a new person, a human person. No one has a right to destroy that life
through abortion, and especially by partial birth abortion that kills a baby (even full term) by literally
suctioning the brain out of its skull.
How depraved have we become in our society? How callused are our
consciences? Perhaps, we as a society will have to experience many deaths (of adults) around us to make us
appreciate life again. NO ONE HAS A RIGHT TO DO WHAT IS WRONG!
Our Lady of Medjugorje said once that satan wishes to destroy us and the
planet on which we live.
As a leader goes, so will the followers.
It is time to act bravely and rightly and in every case choose and vote
for life. It may not be the only "issue," but it is the most important one. Our own lives may depend on
it sometime in the not-so-far future.
