Because of this special Pascal Triduum Issue and the fact the Catholic News organizations will be observing the Easter Triduum as well, we are placing all the emphasis on this most important liturgical time of the year and are suspending our regular WORLDWIDE NEWS & VIEWS with a Catholic slant feature during this holy time. This will include both this issue and our EASTER SUNDAY-MONDAY issue on line late Saturday night. Our regular GIFT OF FAITH series will return on Easter Sunday with The Resurrection along with Sister Mary Lucy Astuto's Easter column and our Easter editorial in CATHOLIC PewPOINT. Be assured we will bring you all the important news features in our Tuesday issue - plus the Holy Father's Urbi et Orbi address - when we return to our regular daily rotation. In the meantime, to keep you abreast, we provide the Catholic World News Ticker at the bottom of this page as well as links to our Catholic news sources: CWN home page and Church News at Noticias Eclesiales and the Dossiers, features and Daily Dispatches from ZENIT International News Agency. We also recommend you tune in to EWTN through this time to watch all the liturgical activities in Rome with the Holy Father this weekend. Have a grace-filled Paschal Triduum leading up to the glorious Resurrection of Our Lord.

Holy Thursday

"This is My Body...
This is My Blood"
Today is the Solemnity of the Mass of the Lord's Supper marking the institution of the Holy Eucharist when Jesus took bread, offered it to His Apostles and said, "Take this, all of you, and eat it: This is My Body." Then, as the priest says at every Mass, "He took the cup, filled with wine. Again He gave You thanks, gave the cup to His disciples, and said: "Take this, all of you, and drink from it: This is the cup of My Blood, the blood of the new and everlasting covenant. It will be shed for you and for all so that sins may be forgiven. Do this in memory of Me." These words, repeated at every Mass are the essence of confecting the bread and wine into the Body and Blood, Soul and Divinity of Jesus. Today we focus on "why" the Blessed Sacrament in our special liturgical page for Holy Thursday. For today's readings, lesson and liturgy, see LITURGY OF FOR HOLY THURSDAY

The Lamb offered Himself that we may celebrate the Victory of Eternity!

In his column today, Pat Ludwa retraces the origin of the "Lamb of God" through Sacred Scripture and how Jesus would be offered up as the Sacrificial Lamb for all time. We celebrate all kinds of occasions of victories throughout history but the greatest victory is the Triumph of the Cross in which the Savior offered Himself as an immolated victim for the salvation of all. Through this victory on Calvary, completed with His Resurrection from the dead on Easter morning, man can forever celebrate "VE Day" which is "Victory Eternal." For his column today, "VE Day!", see VIEW FROM THE PEW

The Gospa's message for March
March 25th Medjugorje Monthly Message
NOTE: We respectfully recognize and accept the final authority regarding apparitions, locutions and prophecies presently being reported around the world rests with the Holy See of Rome and the Magisterium of Holy Mother Church to whose judjment we humbly and obediently submit.

"Dear children! Pray and make good use of this time, because this is a time of grace. I am with you and I intercede for each one of you before God, for your heart to open to God and to God's love. Little children, pray without ceasing, until prayer becomes a joy for you. Thank you for having responded to my call."

Good Friday

Dying, He destroyed our death...
No day is reserved for more fasting, abstinence, penance and silence than Good Friday for it is a day of great reverence in commemorating the Passion and Death of Jesus Christ, Our Lord and Savior. This is the only day of the year that the Holy Sacrifice of the Mass is not celebrated, though there is a Communion Service. The altar remains stripped bare just as Christ was stripped. Today we bring you the veneration of the Cross with the Consecration of the Cross and the Paschal Triduum Novena. For the readings and liturgy of Good Friday, click on GOOD FRIDAY LITURGY.

Today we begin the Novena of Divine Mercy which will conclude with DIVINE MERCY SUNDAY next week. This Novena was imparted to Blessed Faustina Kowalska, a Polish nun of the 1930's who is known as the "Apostle of Mercy". Holy Saturday

...Rising, He restored our life!
The anticipation of the Resurrection overflows with the most beautiful liturgies in the Church - the Easter Vigil Mass. Today we bring you "The Significance and Beauty of the Easter Vigil" for from the darkness the Light of Christ shines forth. After centuries of waiting and hoping, all expectations are fulfilled with the opening of Heaven's doors to all who had been in limbo since the time of Adam and Eve. For us it is a day of great joy and celebration, rejoicing at the new catechumens and a renewal of our Baptismal vows. For the moving liturgy, readings and meditation of Holy Saturday, see LITURGY FOR HOLY SATURDAY

Today's prayer contains the Renewal of our Baptismal Vows which makes us children ofGod and safe from the clutches of hell if we remain in His grace. Just as Our Lord descended to the dead to free souls who had been in Limbo since the sin of Adam, so also we are freed through our obedience to Him.

"Almighty and eternal God! Thou knowest all things: Thou seest the very bottom of my heart, and Thou knowest that, however sinful I have hitherto been, I am resolved, by the help of Thy grace, to love and serve Thee for the remainder of my life. And therefore, O my God, kneeling before the throne of Thy Mercy, I renew, with all the sincerity of my soul the promises and vows made for me in my baptism. I renounce satan with my whole heart, and will henceforth have no connection with him. I renounce all the pomps of satan, that is, all the vanities of the world, the false treasures of its riches, honors and pleasures, and all its corrupt teachings. I renounce all the works of satan, that is, all kinds of sins. To Thee alone, O my God, I desire to cling; Thy word will I hear and obey; for Thee alone I desire to live and to die. Amen."

Events that happened during this period in Church History
Mother Angelica
On Holy Thursday Mother Mary Angelica of the Annunciation, affectionately known to all as simply Mother Angelica, will celebrate her 77th Birthday. She was born on April 20, 1923 to John and Mae Helen Gianfransisco in Canton, Ohio. Throughout her six decades she has given her fiat totally to God in being guided by the Holy Spirit in founding the largest Catholic Media network in the world in EWTN as well as founding an Order of Religious for both nuns and priests. She has become the beacon for orthodoxy and true allegiance to Rome as all Catholics must. Without Mother Angelica's influence, who knows how far the liberals might have progressed. But thanks to God's Italian-descent instrument with the wry sense of humor and no-nonsense, but humble approach the Church is returning to its conservative roots in America. God's importance to man must reflect man's importance to God
Famous quotes of Bishop Fulton J. Sheen    They say a picture is worth a thousand words, but the words of Bishop Fulton J. Sheen have been known to launch a thousand images in one's mind, one of the ways this late luminary did so much to evangelize the faith. Because of the urgency of the times and because few there are today who possess the wisdom, simplicity and insight than the late Archbishop who touched millions, we are bringing you daily gems from his writings. The good bishop makes it so simple that we have dubbed this daily series: "SIMPLY SHEEN".

"No lesser goal than God Himself is great enough to demand of any man that he transform his nature; no human institution has the right to cramp his powers. Man is the highest creature on earth: he matters more than every theory, every government, every plan, for the world and all that it contains are not worth one immortal soul."

"Today bring Me the Souls of Priests and Religious, and immerse them in My unfathomable Mercy."
We continue with the Second Day of the Novena of Divine Mercy which will conclude with DIVINE MERCY SUNDAY next week. This Novena was imparted to Blessed Faustina Kowalska, a Polish nun of the 1930's who is known as the "Apostle of Mercy" and who will be canonized at the end of this Novena this year on April 30th - Divine Mercy Sunday by His Holiness Pope John Paul II in Rome where hundreds of thousands will pack St. Peter's Square. For this second day of the Novena and the Chaplet of Divine Mercy, see DIVINE MERCY NOVENA
