The Feast of the Finding of the Holy Cross supersedes the Fourth Sunday after Easter this year that is a gateway towards a cornucopia of saints this week beginning with St. Augustine's persevering mother St. Monica on Monday, followed by one of the greatest Popes ever - His Holiness Pope St. Pius V whose Quo Primum forever proves the anathema of the Novus Ordo. Listen to Bishop Daniel Dolan's sermon on this sainted pontiff and two articles by Dr. Thomas A. Droleskey. On Wednesday we celebrate St. John the Evangelist at the Latin Gate with the holy martyred bishop St. Stanislaus on Thursday, following up with the feast of the Apparition of St. Michael the Archangel on Friday, then completing the week in honoring the holy Doctor of the Church St. Gregory Nazianzen on Saturday.

Each day we offer a salutary ejaculation of Mary's distinctive titles from the Litany of the Blessed Virgin Mary as we continue offering a different daily flower that corresponds to a respective virtue in amassing a beautiful spiritual floral bouquet to be presented to Our Lady on her feast of the Queenship of Mary, this year on June 1, immediately after Trinity Sunday. In addition, this week covers Days Six through Twelve in the 33-Day Preparation for Total Consecration to Jesus through Mary as we also pray each day the beautiful daily prayer of The Little Crown of the Twelve Stars of the Blessed Virgin Mary.

Finally, as always, to keep abreast of events, their causes and consequences, and inspiration from other ports, we confidently recommend NovusOrdoWatch.org and Christorchaos.com for articles and links, as well as four blogs worth your while, Introibo Ad Altare Dei, Bishop Donald Sanborn's In Veritate, Fr. Cekada's Quidlibet, and the satirical, but on-point Call Me Jorge.

The Cross on which Our Blessed Lord suffered for us was, following Jewish usage, buried on Mount Calvary after the Crucifixion. The precise spot was revealed in a vision to the Empress Helena, mother of Constantine, the first Christian Emperor. This date commemorates the recovery of the True Cross in the reign of the Emperor Heraclius and its delivery by him about the year 629 into the hands of the Patriarch Zacharias of Jerusalem, from which city it had been carried away some years previously by the Persians with the object of transporting it to their own country. God has been pleased to give so much power to the Cross that at its sign alone the demons fly; by it the priest blesses the faithful, the devout receive abundant graces. The early Christians had so much devotion to it that, according to the ancient Fathers, they never began any action without first making the sign of the cross upon themselves. In the Middle Ages no public deed, inscription, law etc., was begun to be written without first tracing upon it the sign of the cross. This sign was accepted as the signature of the uneducated; it often preceded that of ecclesiastics, and in many country districts even the dough and the bread were marked with a cross before they were baked. In the Epistle the triumph of the Redeemer of the world, Our Lord Jesus Christ, must be preceded by "His humiliation unto death, even the death of the Cross." In the Gospel Christ reveals His mission in His discourse with Nicodemus: "The Son of Man must be lifted up" on the Cross for the salvation of mankind.

There is also a commemoration in the Collect, Secret and Postcommunion for the Fourth Sunday after Easter

IMITATION OF THE HOLY CROSS
This short litany prayer is said to have been found under the Sepulchre where Jesus was buried. It is believed to have been sent by the Holy See to the Emperor Charles V who was going to war against his enemies.
  • God all powerful, who has suffered on the tree of the Cross be with us.
  • Holy Cross of Jesus Christ have pity on us.
  • Holy Cross of Jesus Christ be our hope.
  • Holy Cross of Jesus Christ turn away from us all sharp weapons.
  • Holy Cross of Jesus Christ pour into us all good.
  • Holy Cross Of Jesus Christ turn away from us all evil.
  • Holy Cross of Jesus Christ make us well in the paths of salvation.
  • Holy Cross of Jesus Christ preserve us from all spiritual and temporal accidents.
  • Holy Cross of Jesus Christ may we adore Thee.
  • Holy Cross of Jesus Christ now and forever.
  • Jesus of Nazareth, Crucified, have pity on us, make the invisible fly far from us now and for ever and ever. Amen.
  • (Holy Mary, Mother of God, St. Joseph, St. Michael the Archangel, and all ye Holy Angels, protect us.)
According to legend, some claim some amazing promises such as he who prays this prayer, or hears it read or carries it about with him shall not die a sudden death. He shall not be burned or drowned or poisoned, nor fall into the hands of his enemies, nor be vanquished in battle. A mother who reads this prayer or hears it read or carries it about her, will be happily delivered, and when the baby is born, if this prayer be put on it's right side it will be preserved from a number of accidents. He who carries this prayer about him shall be preserved from epilepsy. If this prayer be put on a person in an epileptic fit, he or she will be relieved if not cured. Our Lord has promised to bless him who recites or procures this prayer for himself or others, and to punish him who scoffs at it. He who reads this prayer daily shall be warned of the approach of his death, three days, by a divine sign. (source: Catholic Prayers)

That is the VerbumQUO for this Double of the Second Class Feast of the Finding of the Holy Cross Crucis is the Latin for "of the Cross", the singular possessive of the genitive and taken from today's Introit, Collect, Epistle, Secret and Communion for today's Proper of the Mass for the Finding of the True Cross Nos autem. The Holy Cross is the focal point of our lives for which we venerate and carry with us daily. As Christ showed that there can be no Resurrection without the Cross, there can be no Victory without the Cross for us. We must be willing to take up our cross and follow Him daily. Only then can we be assured of sharing in the triumph. This is illustrated in By this Sign we will Conquer

Each day we shall feature a title and salutation to Our Lady in celebration of Mary's month of May for she is truly the Mother of Divine Grace. We encourage all to pray daily the Holy Rosary and the Litany of the Blessed Virgin Mary.
On the third day of Mary's Month of May, the MYOSOTIS was presented to represent THANKSGIVING. This bluebell-like flower is most appropriate for the feast of the Finding of the True Cross for some say it was the only thing that bloomed on Calvary after the Crucifixion of our Lord and Savior. If we should offer thanksgiving for anything, it is for the ultimate Sacrifice of the Cross in which we are saved and which is re-enacted daily in the Holy Sacrifice of the Mass. For the daily devotion in May see The Little Crown of the Twelve Stars of the Blessed Virgin Mary

John Gregory provides the commentary for the Fourth Sunday after Easter from Father George Leo Haydock found in many Douay-Rheims version of the New Testament. How ironic when false prophets and antipopes are trying to justify the Jews in their sin, when Bishop Bernard Fellay ignores this after years of resisting in order to now compromise with the devil - that we have this wonderful Gospel of St. John the Evangelist on the truth. Our Lord foretold many times that the Jews would be a stubborn lot and indeed that has proven true for still today they brag about rejecting Him and expect faithful Catholics to tow their line rather than God's. More proof they answer to the prince of the world and not to the Son of God Who alone provides eternal happiness, re-emphasized so many times, especially in today's Gospel where Jesus promises He will always be with His children for He will not leave His apostles shorthanded. No, as promised, He will send His Spirit, the Holy Ghost which proves the Filioque of the Creed as we see in today's commentary for the Fourth Sunday after Easter in Promise of the Paraclete

Father Benedict Hughes, CMRI, Rector of St. Joseph's Minor Seminary in Rathdrum, Idaho at the City of Mary presents a thirteen-minute sermon recorded two years ago and made available through Traditional Catholic Sermons for the Fourth Sunday after Easter, also known as "Cantáte Sunday" after the Introit "Cantáte Domino", which means "Sing to the Lord" and which Father addresses how we are now preparing for the Advocate as Christ promises that through thick and thin, He will be with us always for He will send His Spirit. Father provides encouragement, especially to parents who often consider their greatest cross is their children who have strayed from the true Faith. He reminds them that God judges the effort, not the results and equates the courageous efforts of missionaries who strove to convert so many and never saw the fruits of their efforts, but that they gave it their all. He urges all to not give up hope and to realize, as Jesus affirms, that there will always be The Joys and Sufferings of Life.

St. Monica was born into a Christian family in the village of Tagaste, Northern Africa in 332, Saint Monica learned at an early age the virtues of patience and obedience which she exhibited throughout her lifetime. When she reached womanhood her parents married her off to a nobleman by the name of Patricius who was a kind husband, but possessed a terrible temper and a wanderlust which Monica tolerated because of her marriage vows. She tried to calm and win him over through her obedience and patience, always praying that he would realize the error of his ways and come to see the ...More

Each day we shall feature a title and salutation to Our Lady in celebration of Mary's month of May for she is truly the Mother of Divine Grace. We encourage all to pray daily the Holy Rosary and the Litany of the Blessed Virgin Mary and The Fatima Prayers.

On the fourth day of Mary's Month of May, the feast of Saint Monica the bouquet offered were the delicate, colorful PANSIES which represent the virtue of THOUGHTS OF HEAVEN. Few exemplified this virtue better than Saint Monica who spent every hour of her day praying and sacrificing for the conversion of her son Augustine. She constantly had thoughts of Heaven in her mind, heart and soul, praying so wholeheartedly for the spiritual welfare of her son who had gone astray. The pansies of persistence paid off as we know and Monica lived to see her son become a religious. All she had prayed for came true. So also with us if we offer Our Lady our pansies of heavenly thoughts, she will intercede before her divine Son and answer our prayers. Pope Saint Pius V came from a family in poor circumstances, and yet he went on to become a Dominican friar in his fifteenth year, then as a simple Religious, bishop, and as cardinal was famous for his intrepid defense of the Faith and discipline of the Church, and for the spotless purity of his life becoming the 225th Successor of Peter The secret of his power lay in seeking the glory of God alone, and in his constant attention to prayer.

By this latter means he overcame the insolence of the Turks and sanctified the people entrusted to his care. His name adorns the front page of the Roman Missal and Breviary, because it was by his authority that the revision of the liturgical books was brought to a conclusion.
Since his time the Holy See and the entire hierarchy have followed definitely the road of that salutary revival of the ecclesiastical spirit which was marked out by the Council of Trent. It is St. Pius V's famous and infallible decree Quo Primum which helps unlock the code hidden by the conciliar church in trying to snuff out the Traditional Latin Mass which St. Pius, in codifying the dogmatic decrees of Trent, set in stone for all perpetuity and no one, not even a future pope, could alter the Holy Sacrifice of the Mass. He died in 1572. See Mass for St. Pius V

While we have today two CONciLIAR clowns posing as 'pope', and in the darkness that was carried out at the Vatican last week where two heretics were 'canonized' in order to cast the Council of Trent into oblivion, it brings home the stark difference between a true Pontiff who was truly holy and humble without shouting it to the world and who not only upheld her divine Son's Church in the face of the rebellious reformation by codifying the infallible, doctrinal documents of the holy Council of Trent including the Immemorial Apostolic Mass of All Time with his landmark decrees Quo Primum and De Defectibus in assuring the Holy Sacrifice of the Mass would remain pure in every way for all time ("in perpetuity"), but also called upon the Mother of God to defeat the Islamic threat upon Rome and all of Europe, this despite being terribly outmanned in the Battle of Lepanto. As we know, through Our Lady's intercession, Don Juan of Austria and his Christian warriors were victorious in turning back the superior Turkish armada and St. Pius dedicated October 7 to her as Our Lady of Victory, since established as a universal feast of Our Lady of the Rosary for that was the weapon the Sovereign Pontiff called all of the faithful to employ in Consueverunt Romani in evening the odds against the infidels. Today we celebrate his universal feast and are encouraged to remember that even when everyone think things are hopeless, and, yes, impossible, we can take great hope in remembering Christ's words in St. Matthew 19: 26, St. Mark 10: 27, and St. Luke 18:27, "with man this is impossible, but with God all things are possible." So also in our time when things look so bleak and the Church St. Pius V so loved and protected is in eclipse. The darkness will pass and the Light will shine again. We have God's word on that with Quo Primum and De Defectibus and Consueverunt Romani

The VerbumQUO for today on the Feast of the holy and worthy Pope Saint Pius V is "ædificábo" which is "I will build" for the Latin future first conjugation singular of ædificáre. This verb fits perfectly with Pope St. Pius V for he, of all Popes, built what Christ had established 1525 years earlier by codifying the infallible dogmatic decrees of the Council of Trent and set in stone "in perpetuity" the continual Sacrifice with the Latin Mass, often called Tridentine Mass from the time of Trent, but known universally today as the Traditional Latin Mass with his infallible Papal Bull Quo Primum, assuring the bread and wine would be properly confected through his decree De defectibus. All that he did in building safeguards and preserving the Truths and Traditions is, in the face of all the conciliar church has tried to destroy, truly The True Reason for celebrating Cinco de Mayo

Each day we shall feature a title and salutation to Our Lady in celebration of Mary's month of May for she is truly the Mother of Divine Grace. We encourage all to pray daily the Holy Rosary and the Litany of the Blessed Virgin Mary and The Fatima Prayers.

On the fifth day of Mary's Month of May, the feast of the holy Sovereign Pontiff Pope Saint Pius V the flower contributing to the bouquet offered to the Blessed Mother is the MARGUERITE which represents SIMPLICITY so perfect for this holy saintly Shepherd who, through his infallible decree Quo Primum, sought to make worship so simple with the infrangible Mass of all Ages - the Apostolic Latin Holy Sacrifice of the Mass set in stone by the dogmatic Council of Trent and codified by this holy Pope for all posterity. How simple can it be? This is the way it is as St. Pius laid out in following the infallible tenets of Trent, and all one needs do is follow those rules and rubrics. Simple! But it is the devil who complicates things and therein we can see his complicity in Vatican II and how Our Lady has wept so at so many who who have apostacized from her divine Son's Church. For the daily devotion in May see The Little Crown of the Twelve Stars of the Blessed Virgin Mary

Jesus had promised James and John, sons of Zebedee, that they should drink the chalice of His passion so as to participate in the triumph of the Resurrection (Gospel). The Emperor Domitian caused John to be brought to Rome and condemned him to be plunged into a cauldron of boiling oil. But St. John, by a striking miracle, came forth from this torment more healthy and vigorous than before. A sanctuary was built on this spot near the Latin gate and dedicated to the holy apostle. There is held the Station on Passion Saturday. See the Mass for St. John at the Latin Gate

Each day we shall feature a title and salutation to Our Lady in celebration of Mary's month of May for she is truly the Spiritual Vessle. We encourage all to pray daily the Holy Rosary and the Litany of the Blessed Virgin Mary and The Fatima Prayers.

On the sixth day of May we celebrate the feast of Saint John Before the Latin Gate is devoted to the virtue of HUMILITY and represented by the VIOLET. This is so appropriate considering the great humility of the beloved disciple who took Mary as his Mother at her Divine Son Jesus' dying request on the cross, to look after her and care for her. Humility is something so lacking in so many of us and so necessary for sanctity. The beloved disciple John possessed this virtue throughout his life and in his inspired words of Sacred Scripture. It was this humility which prompted God to choose him as Mary's protectress and also preserved him from the boiling oil and afforded him, through the Mercy of God, to be exiled to the Isle of Patmos where he received the final account of the final days in the Book of the Apocalypse and was the only Apostle not to die a martyr. For the daily devotion in May see The Little Crown of the Twelve Stars of the Blessed Virgin Mary

Today is the feast of the holy Polish martyr Saint Stanislaus, who was Bishop of Cracow. King Boleslaw II was outraging the whole kingdom by his acts of lust and cruelty. St. Stanislaus, finding all remonstrances useless, excommunicated him. By order of the king he was cut in pieces at the foot of the altar while celebrating High Mass on the feast of the Apparition of St. Michael in the oratory ...More

Each day we feature a title and/or salutation to Our Lady in celebration of Mary's month of May. Keep in mind that through Mary we are more resolute in cooperating with her divine Son in all things for she is the Gate of Heaven. Now let's all thank her by praying daily her Holy Rosary and the Litany of the Blessed Virgin Mary and The Fatima Prayers.

On the seventh day of May, the Feast of Saint Stanislaus Kostka, Bishop and Martyr. The virtue is ATTACHMENT TO GOD and is represented by the BINDWEED which is truly not a weed, but a flower that is stately just as St. Stanislaus remained attached to God despite the pressure of his fellow Poles and even the King. He had only one King: Christ the King, ever remaining the loyal subject and attached always to God. It is most appropriate that this also falls on the First Saturday of Mary's month of May for there is no greater attachment to God than through His most Blessed Mother for Catholics realize to Jesus through Mary. This becomes a normal process if one has a fervent attachment to God and seeks to do His divine Will, one will always be joyful no matter what slings and arrows life and the devil fires at a soul. Mary will guide us to her divine Son and we see this in the Devotion of The Little Crown of the Twelve Stars of the Blessed Virgin Mary

There are several feasts of St. Michael in the Liturgy. Very ancient is the commemoration of the dedication of the celebrated Lombard sanctuary on Sant' Angelo on Monte Gargano in Apulia, near the ancient Sipontum. There is a tradition that St. Michael appeared on this mountain and requested that a church be erected to him and all the angels. In the Old and the New Testament St. Michael, in the struggle against the Evil One, is always depicted as the invincible champion of God. ...More

St. Michael the Archangel, defend us in battle. Be our defense against the wickedness and snares of the devil. May God rebuke him we humbly pray, and do thou O Prince of the heavenly host, by the Power of God, thrust into hell satan and all the evil spirits who prowl about the world for the ruin of souls. Amen.

The mystery of iniquity which, according to St. Paul in 2 Thessalonians 2: 7, shall be boldly revealed in the last ages of the world and which has already begun its work of perversion, meets at present with an obstacle which hinders its full development. This obstacle is usually said to be the protection of St. Michael. St. Michael is appointed by God Himself to be the protector and defender of the Church. After the protective duty conferred on St. Joseph, there is no work on earth of such great importance and sublimity as that entrusted to St. Michael. For the full prayer composed by Pope Leo III see Complete Prayer to Saint Michael

Each day we feature a title and/or salutation to Our Lady in celebration of Mary's month of May and today we honor her as Queen of Angels to commemorate this feast of the Apparition of St. Michael the Archangel. When Mary was assumed into Heaven she was crowned Queen of Heaven, ruling over both angels and saints, and it was St. Michael who first appeared to the children at Fatima preceding her appearances there in which she encouraged all to pray daily her Holy Rosary and the Litany of the Blessed Virgin Mary and The Fatima Prayers.

For the eighth day of May and the Double Major Feast of the Apparition of Saint Michael the Archangel the virtue is FAITH and the greatest warrior in Heaven for defending the Faith is the noble winged general. The flower symbolized is the IRIS which blooms in the Spring and we must spring forward with faith to uphold and spread the True Faith, being irises who bloom where they are planted. Just as the iris is so functional to the eye, we must be on our watch against the wiles and snared of the devil. Count on St. Michael the Archangel - Quis ut Deus - He who is like God - to be our defense against satan who seeks the ruin of souls. Honor Our Lady on this day with the devotion of The Little Crown of the Twelve Stars of the Blessed Virgin Mary

St. Gregory Nazianzen, Bishop, Confessor and Doctor of the Church St. Gregory of Nazianzen, one of the Fathers of the Greek Church, was born in Asia Minor; he was made a bishop and afterward Patriarch of Constantinople. He labored with wonderful success against the Arians. His success drew on him the hatred of the enemies of the Faith. Finally, he resigned his See and retired to his native town, where he died in 390. As a champion of the Faith he was so well equipped, so strenuous, and so exact that he is called St. Gregory the Theologian. His firmness restored the Faith of the Council of Nicea to Constantinople; he was, however, a man of gentle spirit and eminently poetic mind. Renouncing his bishopric he set his heart on the contemplative life and monastic discipline. See the Mass for St. Gregory of Nazianzen

Today is the Feast of the holy Doctor of the Church and Bishop St. Gregory Nazianzen, the second of four holy Doctors honored this month. St. Gregory was another from the 4th century who also faced the intense persecutions and calumnies of the Arian bishops. Son of two saints - Saint Gregory Nazianzen the Elder and Saint Nonna - and the sibling of two others - Saint Caesarius and Saint Gorgonna - this Doctor of the Church teamed with another Doctor of the Church the holy Saint Basil to uphold true teaching in combating the heresies of his time. The holy bishop St. Gregory Nazianzen is considered the Church's Theologian. This Cappadocian shepherd also nurtured a young protege who would turn out pretty well himself, one Saint Jerome. St. Gregory is often called the Administrator of Theology

Each day we feature a title and/or salutation to Our Lady in celebration of Mary's month of May and today, on the glorious Ascension of her divine Son into Heaven, we honor Mary with the title of House of God for she was the tabernacle for the most valuable person who ever lived and now He was returning to the Father at the true House of Gold and House of God, but Mary knew her work was not yet done and neither is ours. Let's help that labor by daily praying the Holy Rosary and the Litany of the Blessed Virgin Mary and The Fatima Prayers.

For the ninth day of May the flower was the majestic MIGNONETTE with the corresponding Virtue being the PRACTICE OF HIDDEN VIRTUES. Appropriately it is the Feast Day of Saint Gregory Nazianzen, the holy Bishop and Doctor of the Church who was a vaunted defender of the Faith against the Arian heresy and practiced the Hidden Virtues in winning souls to the True Faith while traversing the rocky regions of Constantinople near the Mediterranean where the Mignonette blooms forth abundantly with its spikelike clusters of greenish or yellowish white flowers. The Mignonette emits an intense spicy fragrance, at first hidden from the nose's senses until closer to it, just as practicing Hidden Virtues may not be evident to all until they are exposed to the virtuous life of the person for "By their fruits you shall know them" (St. Matthew 7: 20). We encourage you to pray the Devotion of The Little Crown of the Twelve Stars of the Blessed Virgin Mary

We encourage you to learn more about the Traditional Latin Mass - the true Holy Sacrifice of the Mass in these videos at this link because each time you worthily assist at the Holy Sacrifice of the Mass in person, you gain graces that are placed in a "golden chalice", so to speak, and is offered to God to be weighed in substance when you stand before Him at your Particular Judgment. The more you have filled this chalice, the better will it go for your spiritual welfare in eternity, enhanced by your cooperation with grace. Know the Mass

When One Cannot physically assist at the Holy Sacrifice of the Mass we provide additional prayers that can be supplemented with the ORDINARY OF THE HOLY MASS and the PROPER OF THE DAY to enable you to better prepare yourself at home. Of course, this never replaces actually being there, but it is much better than attending the Novus Ordo services. Therefore we have gleaned from The Key of Heaven prayers to say at home. It is very comforting to know that the Holy Mass is offered for us even when we are not actually present. But to enjoy the benefits which it procures, we must by a SPIRITUAL COMMUNION become partakers of the altar from which we are temporarily banished. Here we provide prayers in preparation for fulfilling assistance in absentia in addition to the ORDINARY OF THE HOLY MASS and PROPER OF THE DAY. PRAYERS IN ABSENTIA

    Prayer Before the Crucifix

Behold, O kind and most sweet Jesus, I cast myself upon my knees in Thy sight, and with the most fervent desire of my soul I pray and beseech Thee that Thou wouldst fix deep within my heart lively sentiments of Faith, Hope and Charity, with true repentance for my sins, and a firm purpose of amendment, whilst with deep affection and grief of soul I ponder within myself and mentally contemplate Thy five most precious Wounds; having before my eyes the words which David in prophesy spoke concerning Thee, O Good Jesus: "They have pierced My hands and My feet; they have numbered all My bones."

  • The Fatima Prayers

My God, I believe, I adore, I trust and I love Thee; and I beg pardon for those who do not believe, do not adore, do not trust, and do not love Thee.
(repeat the above 3 times then bow your head in reciting the following:)

O Most Holy Trinity, Father, Son and Holy Ghost, I adore Thee profoundly. I offer Thee the most Precious Body, Blood, Soul and Divinity of Jesus Christ, present in tabernacles throughout the world, in reparation for the outrages, sacrileges and indifference by which He is offended. By the infinite merits of the Sacred Heart of Jesus, in unison with the Immaculate Heart of Mary, I beg the conversion of poor sinners.

O Most Holy Trinity, I adore Thee! My God, my God, I love Thee in the Most Blessed Sacrament!

O my Jesus, it is for love of Thee, in reparation for the offenses committed against the Immaculate Heart of Mary and for the conversion of poor sinners.
