How fitting that the first feast after Epiphany honors the Holy Family on the very Octave Day of the Epiphany this year. For throughout the centuries the greatest model to emulate is the Son of God, then His Immaculate Mother Mary and finally the cooperator of all that God deigned, holy St. Joseph, Patron of the universal Church which his foster Son established upon this earth several years after Joseph was rewarded with eternal life. Each of this triumverate melded into the perfect family to set the example of how man can live in harmony. Unfortunately, man didn't follow the perfect formula because of his own fallen human nature and sinful ways. What we have today is the antithesis of the Holy Family with abortion, divorce and adultery the norm as satan has twisted the natural law to even sink to the depths of same-sex marriage being accepted as normal. Has anyone told them what God thinks of such aberrations? Hint: Sodom and Gomorrah. Despite the trend to offend Him in every way possible in order to please man, traditional Catholics today are swimming upstream but they realize it's the only way to stay afloat as everyone else is being swallowed heading downstream toward the torrents of hell. Let us begin the Time after Epiphany by calling upon the Holy Family with the inspiring liturgy of Holy Family Sunday

We begin the new year with the Haydock Commentary for Holy Family Sunday provided by John Gregory. For this First Sunday after Epiphany, and still Within the Octave, the focus is on the love of God and God's love for us shown so beautifully in the fifth Joyful Mystery of the Finding of the Child Jesus in the Temple. Here we see the obedience He gave to His earthly parents in exhibiting the kind of humility expected of each of His children in obedience to God and the rightful superiors God places in our care asking us to have charity in our hearts as we can see from St. Paul's epistle in bearing with one another in love for charity is the paramount virtue and these virtues are exalted in both Epistle and Gospel in
And He was subject to them
Father Benedict Hughes, CMRI, Rector of St. Joseph's Minor Seminary in Rathdrum, Idaho at the City of Mary presents a 15 minute sermon on how we can better shield the family from the occasion of sin as Father encourages consecrating the family to the Sacred Heart for the family is the keystone to society. If we look at the world today we can see that the family unit has been sabotaged through all the technology available today and we need to curb such influences to protect the sanctity of the home and the indissolubility of Catholic marriage. It is a war today against the forces of evil which needed to dumb down and chip away until souls were numb to what offends God, a trick the devil is wont to do. While a surprisingly amount of those in the CONciLIAR church realize this, they refuse to leave and return to the true tenets of Catholicism because that would mean giving up the very things they have grown comfortable with, the very things that have served to destroy the family unit. Father explains in his sermon Let Our Families Be Like The Holy Family

For those who truly desire to emulate the Holy Family, the best way to prepare your home is to have it consecrated with the Enthronement of the Sacred Heart of Jesus. With the lack of churches and chapels where the True Presence can only be found via confection by true priests in the Traditional Latin Mass, one finds it far and few between places where one can adore the Blessed Sacrament. The next best thing then is to set a room or place aside in the home where the family can gather for the Rosary and to spend a holy hour in the home, taking seriously Christ's words when He asked His Apostles in St. Mark 14: 27, "Couldst thou not watch one hour with Me?" Well, can we? We have the opportunity by requesting a true priest to enthrone our homes and thereby, receiving efficacious graces while making reparation for our own sins and those of so many other sinners, most of whom, have no clue how much they offend the Holy Family in so many ways. For more, see Enthronement in the Home

After having persecuted the Church during the first centuries, the Christian, but at the same time heretical emperors, continued their attacks by supporting Arianism which denied the divinity of Christ. In the season after Epiphany, when Jesus affirms His divinity by His teaching and miracles, the first saint whom the Church presents to us is one of the more intrepid defenders

This is the first Doctor of the Church in the calendar year. This holy Bishop and Doctor of the Church Saint Hilary of Poitiers was another from the fourth century who, like the three great Doctors who preceded him (St. Athanasius, St. Ephrem and St. Cyril of Jerusalem), stood by the axiom: One cannot serve God by employing the philosophy that one should 'go along to get along.' That false belief is, sadly, something so prevalent in today's society of lemmings. Unlike the one whose name sounds so similar, there are no similarities to the character of St. Hilary with Hillary Clinton. The former is a saint, the latter...well, you fill in the blanks, but keep it clean. Back to the true Hilary. He was both greatly persecuted by the Arians and ostracized by many within the Church because of false information. Hmm, sound familiar? Every Traditional Catholic can relate to that. This first Doctor, of what is today France - eldest Daughter of the Church - was known for his great labors in the fields of God from Gaul to Ilyria. Born the same year as his colleague Doctor and Bishop of Jerusalem St. Cyril, he labored tirelessly for the True Faith as you'll see he was the

Today is the feast of Saint Paul the Hermit, father of hermits, who had St. Jerome for his historian. Having become an orphan at the age of fifteen, he gave up his possessions and retired into a desert where a flourishing palm-tree, a symbol of is virtues (Introit) provided him with food and clothing.
He meditated in solitude on the science of sciences which is to know Jesus Christ (Epistle) and the Father Whom Christ reveals to the

From time to time we like to highlight excellent features that tie in with the feast days and we're pleased to present Dr. Marian Therese Horvat's piece on the origins of Our Lady of Prompt Succor. As many know, at one time Dr. Horvat wrote regularly for this publication before she and Atila established their own site at Tradition in Action. Marian traces the roots to the Battle of New Orleans and the miraculous events that surrounded a fire at the Ursuline Convent in the French Quarters of the Big Easy. Our Lady's intercession also played a role in the city not falling into England's hands as the Bishop of New Orleans, like St. Pius V did regarding Lepanto, urged the faithful to pray to the Blessed Mother to come to their prompt help, hence prompt succor. Just what happened and what we should all ask Our Lady to intercede for in times of chastisement and natural disasters is the crux of Marian's piece titled Our Lady of Prompt Succor, a Patroness for Americans

Today is the feast of Pope Saint Marcellus who, as Supreme head of the Church (Introit), Gradual) at the last persecutions of the Roman emperors, bore witness to the divinity of Christ by losing his life, for His sake: (Gospel). The holy widow Lucina having offered him her house, he transferred it into a church now called St. Marcellus. Maxentius transferred there certain deer from the public stables and condemned the holy Pope to keep

With Lent not far away, we've decided to bring you an examination of conscience primer focusing on each of the Seven Deadly Sins. We lead off with Paul Koskoski's insightful points on the sin of Pride in which he illustrates how one can so easily offend God through the sin of pride, dating back to the very first sinnner - lucifer who was banished forever from Heaven with the rest of the fallen angels for the sin of pride, and, in the manner of 'misery loves company' managed to slither into the Garden of Eden to establish from henceforth for all generations: Original Sin. Many blame it on our first parents, but considering what they were up against with the sly serpent and his insidious methods would we have been able to resist his wiles and snares? Oh, we might say 'yes', but we must also be careful not to be too prideful for that is the downfall of all who do not seek the antidote to pride, humility, true humility as the Blessed Virgin Mary and many saints exhibited and as we must emulate in order to overcome the devil's devious deceits.

After St. Paul the Hermit, father of the Anchorites or hermits, the Christmas Cycle honors Saint Antony, father of the Cenobites, who live in common.
When he was 18, he retired into the Egyptian desert and led the life of a hermit. The devil, in order to frighten him and drive him from the solitude would appear to him in the most hideous shapes; but the Lord made him formidable to his foes: one word from his mouth reduced these prodigies to nothingness (Epistle).
His holiness soon attracted souls desirous to see

One of the most bitter of rotten fruits as result of the laxity promoted by Vatican II was the rise of the sodomy syndrome in which the devil was able to maneuver a great number of the populace - read useful idiots - to accept the perverted and ugly sin of sodomy as not only acceptable in today's society, but welcomed and encouraged. Fr. Benedict Hughes, CMRI, editor of The Reign of Mary, has cordially submitted past articles for our readers of great interest in a series we are dubbing "Pastoral Pearls" for we all need pastoral direction in these times when the only semblance of order and right is the Traditional Catholic Church in the face of a world growing darker as sin intensifies with vice being encouraged, while virtue is scoffed at, isolated and ridiculed. We all know this disorder cannot last, especially in a time and peoples that are far worse than Sodom and Gomorrah ever were. As every true Catholic knows, sodomy is an aberration of all God deigns and there will be consequences, if not already with AIDS, because His Order of Natural Law has been gravely infected by unnatural laws that go against the very grain of nature and the Supernatural Law. So many forget the causes and effects of Sodom and Gomorrah in Old Testament times. The causes were sins agains the flesh in every manner conceivable and the effects were total destruction. In other words, you don't mess with God.

Eleven years after the Ascension of our Blessed Lord, Saint Peter who had been appointed the head of the Church on earth by Christ Himself, transferred the seat of the Papacy from Antioch to Rome, where he preached the Faith and established his episcopal chair, and there the Bishops of Rome have been ever since accounted his successors. The feast of the Chair of St. Peter is that of the foundation of the See of Rome. From the Third Century it was symbolized by a chair carved in wood or tufa, a relic now kept high in the apse of the

On this first day of the Church Unity Octave, we bring you the wisdom of the venerable renowned Abbot Dom Prosper Gueranger. We are in that season of the ecclesiastical year which is devoted to honoring the Incarnation and Birth of the Son of God, and the Maternity of the Blessed Virgin Mary: it behooves us to remember, especially on this present Feast, that it is to the See of St. Peter that we owe the preservation of these dogmas, which are the very basis of our holy religion. Our Holy Mother Church, centered in Rome, not only taught them to us when She sent us the saintly missionaries who evangelized our countries; but, moreover, when heresy attempted to throw its mists and clouds over these high Mysteries, it was Rome that secured the triumph for truth by Her sovereign decisions. At Ephesus, when Nestorius was condemned, and the dogma which he assailed was solemnly proclaimed, that is, that the Divine Nature and the Human Nature which are in Christ make but one Person, and that Mary is consequently the true Mother of God, the Fathers of that General Council thus spoke: Church Unity Octave

Every year, from the feast of St Peter's Chair at Rome on January 18 to the feast of the Conversion of St. Paul on January 25, we observe a special week of prayer for the conversion of non-Catholics to the Faith. As we pray in the Consecration to the Sacred Heart of Jesus: "Many indeed have never known Thee; many too, despising Thy precepts, have rejected Thee. Have mercy on them all, most merciful Jesus, and draw them to Thy Sacred Heart." Thus we pray for the conversion of pagans and infidels and see how far the CONciLIAR hierarchy has fallen. Compare two Germans: Consider what St. Bonfiface did in convincing pagans they were barking up the wrong tree, while 12 centuries later Fr. Josef Ratzinger has no problem allowing a pagan to anoint him! Puhlease. Pray for him and the rest of the conciliar apostates that they will be converted and realize there is only one true Faith with the fruits and what only Christ can offer through the only true Church He established on earth. Pray for the collapse of the counterfeit church of conciliarism and the scandalous acts committed over the past 50 years such as Wojtyla's celebrating snake worshippers or topless women and the many aberrations of past antipopes since the death of Pope Pius XII. See Day One of Church Unity Octave
PRAYER FOR THE CHURCH UNITY OCTAVE (Official Octave Prayer)
ANTIPHON: "That they all may be one, as Thou, Father, in Me and I in Thee; that they also may be one in Us; that the world may believe that Thou has sent Me." (John 17: 21)
V. I say unto thee that thou art Peter
R. And upon this Rock I will build My Church.
Let us pray. O Lord Jesus Christ, Who saidst unto Thine Apostles: Peace I leave with you, My peace I give unto you; regard not our sins, but the faith of Thy Church, and vouchsafe to grant unto Her that peace and unity which are agreeable to Thy Will. Who livest and reignest God forever and ever. Amen.
An indulgence of 300 days during the octave of prayers for the unity of the Church, from the Feast of the Chair of St. Peter in Rome to the feast of the Conversion of St. Paul. A Plenary Indulgence on the usual conditions at the end of the devout exercise.

In Book Four, Chapter Thirty-Four of the Prophesies and Revelations of the holy mystic St. Bridget of Sweden she is given a vision about various punishments being prepared for a certain soul as yet alive in body, and how all these kinds of pending punishments, if his soul should be converted before death, could and would be converted into the greatest honor and glory. As St. Peter writes in Sacred Scripture that "the devil goeth about like a roaring lion, seeking whom he may devour" and here we see how good works and faith can rescue one from the teeth of the lethal beast into the loving arms of God as we see in Out of the mouth of the beast

As we pray in the Consecration to the Sacred Heart of Jesus: "Turn Thine eyes of mercy toward the children of that race, once Thy chosen people: of old they called down upon themselves the Blood of the Savior; may it now descend upon them a laver of redemption and of life." Also, each Good Friday we pray in the Solemn Prayers as we "pray for the perfidious Jews, that our Lord and God may take away the veil from their hearts, so that they, too, may acknowledge Jesus Christ our Lord. Almighty, eternal God." Unfortunately, what Christ and His Church passed down through divine Revelation has been altered and Fr. Josef Ratzinger was one of the first to recognize that the Jews' wait for the Messias is not in vain, which, of course, would mean Christ was a liar and the Church is false. We know that is sheer anathema and pure insanity, but those who subscribe to the aberration of abominable Vatican II document Nostra Aetate have made themselves apostates in every way and made themselves puppets of the Zionists. Pray for them and the conversion of the Jews to recognize Christ is their King because He is the Son of God and their only means of salvation. See Day Two of Church Unity Octave
