Knowing and Living Our Catholic Faith Without Compromise During HOLY WEEK

Editor's Note: In observance of Holy Week, we are specifically bringing you tried and true inspirational and devotional material to help you better participate, learn more of the traditions and sacred rubrics of holy Mother Church, and grow in grace. This includes the sound words of the venerable Abbe Dom Prosper Gueranger in poignant excerpts for Holy Week from The Liturgical Year, and the first seven installments of Dr. Thomas A. Droleskey's magnificent eight-part series for Holy Week: "From Eden to the Empty Tomb", which he first presented to The Daily Catholic readers back in 2003. We also provide meditations and devotions for each day, incorporated in the VerbumQUOs from Palm Sunday to Wednesday in Holy Week and special Meditations on each day of the Easter Triduum. In addition to furnishing the full traditional liturgy of Holy Week, above we have linked the Gospel Passion accounts of all four of the Evangelists in both Latin and English.

We also encourage you, if you possibly can get there, to attend only a Traditional Latin Rite Holy Week Service this week and realize there are many graces to be gained by spending time in Adoration of the Most Blessed Sacrament at the Reposition Altar during the Holy Thursday night-Good Friday day-and-night-watch and being in His presence Holy Saturday morning up to commencement of the Easter Vigil. There are also several fruitful blessings for those who devote three hours of prayer on Good Friday and plenary indulgences for those able to attend, make a good confession and receive Holy Communion on Maundy Thursday and/or Easter Sunday. We pray you'll persevere through those grueling hours when our Savior was scourged, mocked, derided, blasphemed, spit upon, nailed to, and hung upon the gibbet. When you get tired, or restless during the long ceremonies of the Easter Triduum, just remember what He endured for the sins of each one of us in order to merit - through His ultimate Sacrifice of Love - everlasting life for those who do His will.

Stay the course and stand fast to tradition. If the Traditional Rite is not available to you, by all means stay home and pray. Do not, we repeat, do not attend a Novus Ordo service for that is akin to attending a Lutheran, Methodist, Baptist or Presbyterian service...for they are all Protestant, and, ergo, not Christian for they have rejected, knowingly or unknowingly, Christ's True Church which He founded and only that particular Church - upon the Rock of Peter (cf. St. Matthew 16: 18-19). We also have Galatians 1: 8-10 to verify this truth. If you do not have a pre-Vatican II Daily Missal, fear not, for you have the full pre-conciliar true Roman Catholic traditional liturgy which we faithfully provide to the faithful for both the Ordinary and Propers of the Holy Sacrifice of the Mass for every day of the year!

We at The Daily Catholic will not be updating this issue until Easter Sunday so that we may devote our time to participating in the Holy Week rubrics. Finally, though it pains us to say it, we are disappointed that hearts have become so indifferent. For though hits and visits are ahead of projections and surpassing past years, donations are down! way down! Perhaps readers do not understand their Lenten duty includes tithing. We have to admit we wonder, save for a few loyal benefactors who have always been there to help, who else can help? Have you benefited spiritually from anything you've read on these pages? Has it helped you better understand what the true Roman Catholic Church stands for? Has it helped you to increase your Faith? We get so many e-mails testifying to that, but so few contributions. Please pray on the percentage of what it is worth to you. After all, you can't take it with you! We know many other traditional non-profits, orders, churches and chapels across the country who reject the heresies of the Vatican II church are in the same boat as we are so one can only deduce there is a lukewarmness within the traditional movement; for more people are coming to the truth but thinking erroneously that priests, religious and lay disciples (all dedicated to carrying out Christ's command in St. Matthew 28: 20, St. Mark 16: 15-16, and St. John 21: 15-17) can operate on mere kudos! St. Luke records in chapter 10: 7, the Master's words,"...for the laborer is worthy of his hire" and St. Paul reinforces this in 1 Timothy 5: 18, "For the Scripture saith: Thou shalt not muzzle the ox that treadeth out the corn. And: The laborer is worthy of his hire." The oxen are pretty lean today, especially in practically every traditional non-profit for each needs funds to maintain their apostolates and we can assure you if they preach the truths and traditions of Holy Mother Church, they will not abuse contributions and are in great need of your charity and, before God and man, are deserving of it. Think about it and remember these sober words in St. Matthew 25: 40, "as long as you did it to one of these, My least brethren, you did it to Me." Have you been as generous as you can be considering all God has gifted you with? Think and pray whether you have truly done all you can to promulgate and preserve the truths and traditions of Holy Mother Church, and help those laborers working in His vineyard.

May you all prayerfully persevere in subduing your wills to the divine will and stand with our suffering and merciful Lord and Savior Jesus Christ and His most Sorrowful and Immaculate Mother in order to fulfill a fruitful Easter Triduum so that you might be truly prepared for the glorious Solemnity of the Resurrection of our Lord.

Everyone over 7 years of age is bound to observe the law of abstinence. Complete abstinence is to be observed on Fridays, Ash Wednesday, Holy Saturday and the Vigils of the Immaculate Conception (December 7) and Christmas (December 24). On days of complete abstinence, meat and soup or gravy made from meat may not be used at all. Partial abstinence is to be observed on Ember Wednesdays and Saturdays and the vigil of Pentecost (Saturday before). On days of partial abstinence, (which are all the days of Lent) which are not complete abstinence days or Sundays, meat and soup or gravy made from meat may be taken only once a day at the principal meal.

Everyone over 21 and 59 years of age is bound to observe the law of fast. The days of fast are all the days in Lent, all days of partial abstinence except Sundays. On days of fast only one full meal is allowed. Two other meatless meals, sufficient to maintain strength may be taken according to each one's need, but together they should not equal another full meal. Meat may be taken at the principal meal on a day of fast except on days of complete abstinence. Eating between meals is not permitted but liquids, including milk and fruit juices are allowed. When health or ability to work would be seriously affected, the law does not oblige. In doubt concerning fast or abstinence, consult your parish priest or confessor.

During this Lenten Season, we resurrect our series which editor Michael Cain provided last year during Lent in summing up the message of the Daily Proper of the Mass. He has taken the Latin Verbum and Quotidianum, which mean respectively "Word" and "Daily", and coined the word "VerbumQUO" for the title of this series by contracting quotidianum to quo and running it together as Verbumquo; thus the "Daily Word," if you will. This is intended to identify one key word and sum up that word to help the faithful focus on the message Holy Mother Church conveys so the faithful can better understand the magnificent correlation of Sacred Scripture in the Daily Proper of the Mass. It's also our hope that in choosing the Latin word with its meaning and etimology more will be attuned to hearing Latin read at the altar and better comprehend the beauty of the Mother tongue. You'll find the pertinent ones for this coming week below.

VerbumQUO's for Holy Week

The VerbumQUO for Palm Sunday is is "ramos" which is the Latin plural noun for "branches", taken from several of the passages for today's ceremonies for Palm Sunday; for it was the branches of palms and olive that are symbolic of this day and divide the Old and the New, with the former fulfilled in all that would unfold in this coming Holy Week, as the new branches would sprout more buds and fruit, and the old, and insincere, wither away. Cain explains in Hosannas Hooked on the Horns of Dilemna

The VerbumQUO for Monday in Holy Week is "expúgna" which is the Latin demonstrative verb for "overthrow" or "expunge" taken from today's Introit for Monday in Holy Week in which the Psalmist David cries out to the Lord to "overthrow them that fight against me." What martyr has not prayed this plea while still praying for their persecutors' conversion? They know love and forgiveness will overthrow our fiercest enemy and expunge sin from their souls. Cain explains in Weapons of Love
The VerbumQUO for Tuesday in Holy Week is "sacrificium" which is the Latin noun for "sacrifice" and is actually taken from the Ordinary of the Holy Sacrifice of the Mass said by the priest acting as the alter Christus, seven times during the Holy Mass, replicating the number of times our Lord spoke from the Cross. The emphasis on sacrifice and the spotless Victim, pure Victim, holy Victim, spotless Victim were installed by the great Pontiff St. Leo the Great. Cain explains in Without the sacrifice of the spotless Victim, there is no Mass! Period!
The VerbumQUO for Wednesday in Holy Week is "genu flectátur" which is the phrase most familiar with Catholics as the English word "genuflect" from St. Paul's words in Philippians 2: 10 used in the Opening Introit for today's Mass just before the Easter Triduum. It is an outward sign of reverence extended by the faithful before and after every Holy Mass and by the priest several times during the Canon and Communion of the Holy Sacrifice of the Mass. Cain explains in Every Knee Must Bend

Christ or chaos is the site where Dr. Thomas A. Droleskey has posted some of the most significant articles of our times. There is probably no more prolific writer in the Traditional Catholic Movement today than Tom, whose mission in life is to save souls and to restore the patrimony of the Roman Catholic Church. Few are more dedicated to this cause in not only preaching it, but living what he preaches. He has walked and driven the journey for it is doubtful anyone - anyone - has assisted at Holy Mass at more Traditional Chapels in the United States than Tom and his wife Sharon and their young daughter Lucy. If souls can be equated to miles, than we can be most optimistic that the fruits of his labors, the persecution he has endured both within and without the Traditional Movement, and his constant call for what Pope Pius XI called for as the only answer for world peace in Quas Primas - the restoration of the Social Kingship of Jesus Christ. Only by following His Blessed Mother's advice and honoring her as her divine Son honored and obeyed her for 30 years can we hope to attain such a lofty, but necessary goal for the sake of souls everywhere. We present several of his recent columns below since we'll only be updating and monitoring the site to alert you to his latest column once a week. We strongly encourage you to go there often for you will get the unadulterated Catholic truth and always a frank, honest, and crystal clear assessment of the current crisis and why Holy Mother Church is in eclipse as Our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ, the Scriptures, Saints and Our Lady foretold. Tom has the solutions and it begins with prayer and perseverance and then truly knowing your Faith so you can keep it in this time of The Great Apostasy. Below are a few of his most recent ones. Each is powerful on its own. This should give the reader plenty of reading material for the month not only the few most recent articles below but by clicking on the button below forthe archives of his past articles at Christ or chaos Columns

For those who truly want to delve deeper into what the Faith teaches and what past Sovereign Pontiffs have decreed, we recommend for your vital reading to better KNOW THE FAITH in order to KEEP THE FAITH, pertinent Papal decrees which put to the lie what is being promulgated today by the Vatican II church. We strongly encourage you to read these to understand how today the modern church is in Apostasy when compared to what had always been taught by Holy Mother Church and enforced and warned as most grievous by previous Pontiffs as you'll see in CREDO & CULTURE

When it comes to all these ungodly laws being passed by liberal judges because of the lobbying and intimidation of a small minority out to do away with the natural and supernatural order, it is wise to keep in mind the following:

"Unjust laws are, properly speaking, NO LAWS!"
His Eminence Saint Robert Cardinal Bellarmine, Doctor of the Church

We invite you to find out for yourself the truth as we present a compendium portal of documents on the Faith in all aspects, past, present and to come. We guarantee what you read is in full harmony with the Truths and Traditions of Holy Mother Church, and we guarantee you that if you read it all with a discerning heart you will be able to decipher the wheat from the chaff. You will better understand what the absolutes of our Faith are and not be fooled by modernism and ambiguities, no matter how cleverly they are couched. Remember satan is the father of half-truths. Read the fullness of the Truths and Traditions of the Roman Catholic Faith in the sections below.
