Semi-Double Observance of the Twentieth Sunday After Pentecost

Commemoration of the Feast of Saint Margaret Mary Alacoque, Virgin and Religious Mystic

Missa "Omnia, quæ fecisti nobis"

GREEN Vestments

The liturgy shows us that our misfortunes are caused by our unfaithfulness in conforming to the will of God. Let us beseech the Lord, through the prayers of Holy Church, to pardon our sins, so that we may serve Him with a quiet and trustful heart, always obeying His precepts.

Today's Mass makes us own that our misfortunes are caused by our unfaithfulness in conforming to the divine will (Introit, Epistle). Therefore, in the same way as the people of Israel when in exile lamented their sins and prayed that God's mercy should be manifested in their favor (Introit, Offertory), so the Christian people ask the Lord, through the prayers of His Spouse, the Church, to pardon their sins so that they may serve Him with a tranquil heart (Collect),by always obeying His commandments (Postcommunion).

All, filled with the Holy Ghost Who must fix our attention during the season following Pentecost, are gathered together in the temple and take a part in the ceremonies of worship (Epistle). They raise to the Lord their eyes full of hope and sing canticles to His glory (Gradual; Alleluia), for in Him alone do they put their trust (Communion).

Saint Margaret Mary Alacoque was born at Verosvres in the diocese of Autun In 1647. When only three years old she already had the greatest fear of the smallest sin. Indeed, the very word "sin" frightened her exceedingly. And before she was quite four years of age, without anyone suggesting them to her, she clearly pronounced the words, "O my God, I consecrate my purity to Thee, for my whole life: I vow to Thee perpetual chastity." Even as a mere tot she loved Jesus and Mary above all things; and as soon as she had learned to say the rosary, she recited it every day. Some time after she had made her First Holy Communion, God sent her a grievous sickness that lasted four years. Then Margaret had recourse to Our Lady. She promised that if that dear Mother would cure her she would become a Sister. Scarcely had she uttered the words, when she was cured. After some hesitation she entered the Order of the Visitation of Paray-le-Monial at the age of twenty-three. The Sacred Heart of Jesus manifested Itself to her several times; through her He willed to make this devotion known to the world. She died October 7,1690. She was canonized by Pope Benedict XV on Ascension Thursday, May 13, 1920. Pope Pius XI extended her feast to the whole Church on June 28, 1929.

Omnia, quæ fecisti nobis, Dómine, in vero judício fecístì, quia peccávimus tibi, et mandátis tuis non obedívimus: sed da glóriam nómini tuo, et fac nobíscum secúndum multitúdinem misericórdiæ tuæ. (Ps. 118: 1) Beáti immaculáti in via: qui ámbulant in lege Dómini. v. Gloria Patri, et Filio, et Spiritui Sancto. Sicut erat in principio et nunc et semper et in saecula saeculorum. Amen.
Repeat Omnia, quæ fecisti nobis...
All that Thou hast done to us, O Lord, Thou hast done in true judgment: because we have sinned against Thee, and we have not obeyed Thy commandments: but give glory to Thy Name, and deal with us according to the multitude of Thy mercy. (Ps. 118: 1) Blessed are the undefiled in the way who walk in the law of the Lord. v. Glory be to the Father and to the Son and to the Holy Ghost, as it was in the beginning, is now and ever shall be, world without end. Amen.

EPISTLE:   Ephesians 5: 15-21

Subjécti invícem in timóre Christi.
Deo Gratias.

Lesson from the Epistle of Blessed Paul the Apostle to the Ephesians. Brethren, See how you walk circumspectly, not as unwise, but as wise redeeming the time, because the days are evil. Wherefore, become not unwise, but understanding what is the will of God. And be not drunk with wine, wherein is luxury but be ye filled with the Holy Spirit, speaking to yourselves in psalms and hymns, and spiritual canticles, singing and making melody in your hearts to the Lord, giving thanks always for all things, in the Name of our Lord Jesus Christ, to God and the Father being subject one to another in the fear of Christ.
Thanks be to God.

GRADUAL:  Psalm 144: 15, 16

GOSPEL:    John 4: 46-53

Sequentia sancti Evangelii secundum Joannem.
R.Gloria tibi, Domine

In illo témpore: Erat quidam régulus, cujus fílius infirmabátur Caphárnaum.
Laus tibi Christe.

The Lord be with you.
R. And with thy spirit.
The continuation of the holy Gospel according to John.
R. Glory to Thee, O Lord

At that time, there was a certain ruler whose son was sick at Capharnaum. He having heard that Jesus was come from Judæa into Galilee, went to Him, and prayed Him to come down, and heal his son for he was at the point of death. Jesus therefore said to him: Unless you see signs and wonders, you believe not. The ruler saith to Him: Lord, come down before my son die Jesus saith to him: "Go on thy way, thy son liveth." The man believed the word which Jesus had said to him, and went his way. And as he was going down, his servants met him, and they brought word, saying that his son lived. He asked therefore of them the hour wherein he grew better. And they said to him: Yesterday at the seventh hour the fever.left him. The father therefore knew that it was at the same hour that Jesus said to him: Thy son liveth and himself believed, and his whole house.
Praise be to Christ

PREFACE   of the Most Holy Trinity

Dominus vobiscum.
R. Et cum spiritu tuo.
Sursum corda.
R.Habemus ad Dominum.
Gratias agamus Domino Deo nostro.

SANCTUS, SANCTUS, SANCTUS...

The Lord be with you.
R. And with thy spirit.
Lift up your hearts.
R.We have lifted them up to the Lord.
Let us give thanks to the Lord our God.
R. It is meet and just.

It is truly meet and just, right and for our salvation, that we should at all times and in all places, give thanks unto Thee, O holy Lord, Father almighty, ever-lasting God: Who, together with Thine only-begotten Son, and the Holy Ghost, are one God, one Lord: not in the oneness of a single Person, but in the Trinity of one substance. For what we believe by Thy revelation of Thy glory, the same do we believe of Thy Son, the same of the Holy Ghost, without difference or separation. So that in confessing the true and everlasting Godhead, distinction in persons, unity in essence, and equality in majesty may be adored. Which the Angels and Archangels, the Cherubim also and Seraphim do praise: who cease not daily to cry out with one voice saying:
HOLY, HOLY, HOLY...
