Sad News from England...
The Feast of St. Michael the Archangel is a bit sadder this year on this side of the Communion of Saints, and this side of the 'pond' as well, for the Traditional movement has lost a noble warrior from the 'other side of the pond' - the esteemed and relentless Welsh author, lecturer, and historian Michael Davies; an earthly "archangel" who fought so nobly for the Church Militant. We would like to believe he is now being escorted by Our Lady and St. Joseph, Patron of a Happy Death, to the threshold of the Church Triumphant where prayerfully he will soon cross. Yet, in the true Catholic sense, we must keep all souls in our prayers for the reality of the Church Suffering cannot be denied. May he be couriered into Heaven through our humble prayers to intercede for us who still have miles to go before we sleep. From Michael Matt of The Remnant, of which Davies was a regular contributor for many decades, comes the following sad official news of his death:
On Saturday, September 25, the great Michael Davies died. After a long and courageous battle with cancer, Mr. Davies was taken, perhaps mercifully by the Divine Judge, of a massive heart attack. The debt we all owe this extraordinary individual cannot be measured. We have lost a friend and mentor, the traditional movement has lost its uncontested elder statesman, and the Church has lost one of her greatest defenders of all time.
Though he was not martyred, the name Davies can surely and without hesitation be placed alongside those of More, Fisher and Campion, as men who gave their lives to the defense of the Holy, Roman Catholic Church in times of unparalleled attack.
We are shocked, stunned and saddened beyond belief by his passing. But for now, we’ll say and write nothing more. It is time to mourn a great and noble Catholic. May his soul, through the mercy of God, rest in peace.
Michael J. Matt
Though there will be many tributes forthcoming to this giant of Tradition, we refer you to the short piece we prepared for our Tower of Trent Tribute this past June 6th in honoring Michael, one of the charter 15 members of the Tower of Trent Hall of Honor. See Michael Davies.
