Here we go again. More backpedaling by the Vatican. This time it's not over the obvious Fatima interfaith shrine but new windmills to fend off. This one is over the Pope's comments on Mel Gibson's landmark masterpiece just 35 days away - "The Passion of The Christ." It has been widely publicized that the Pope, a man of many words - make that tomes - chose only a few, succinct ones to describe his take on the film which he saw in a private screening in his Apostolic Palace on DVD on December 5th. In almost a classic phrase that would express philosophical and poetic brilliance he conveyed the essence of the film: "It is as it was." Brilliant. Since John Paul II likes to consider himself a poet, no less a brilliant philosopher - since he's definitely not a brilliant theologian - you would think he would be most satisfied with those five short words which say it all: "It is as it was." Brilliant. And we're not talking about Guinness Beer here, folks.

But now, according to Catholic News Service and John Thavis their man in the Vatican, the Pope's private secretary, confidante and fellow Pole Archbishop Stanislaw Dziwisz is denying the Pope said that.

Traditional Apostolic Administrations
Sign the petition to the Pope for canonical protection so that priests may freely say the Mass that was never abrogated - the Traditional Latin Mass - without reprisal from their local bishops.
