"Now, Lord, You may dismiss Your servant!"
Yesterday was a sad day for those who foster the culture of life when Karla Faye Tucker, only the second woman to be executed in the United States since the Civil War, was injected on the execution "platform" at Huntsville Texas at 6:30 p.m. Central Time and within eight minutes was no longer among the living. Despite pleas by the Holy Father to Texas Governor George Bush no clemency was given. In today's commentary we treat this event with "No-Mercy Platform opens the door to Tender Mercies for Karla Faye Tucker!" for Karla, by her own admission had seen the way to salvation and willingly went to her death, reminiscent of Simeon's words in Monday's Gospel, "Now, Lord, You may dismiss Your servant! We can never say Our Lady didn't warn us!
In today's special on-going feature series on the Blessed Mother's appearances over the last two millenniums we resume chronological visits from after the Second World War up until 1961 throughout the world. In most of these reported sightings and messages, Our Lady conveyed the same theme as she has up to today: Repent, and turn back to her Divine Son for the tribulation is at hand. For the fifty-fourth installment of this on-going megaseries, "Post-war rumblings of more tribulations on the horizon if God's people don't repent!" THE AGE OF MARIAN APPARITIONS

One last time to indulge in indulgences by looking back
Last week we completed our capsule paragraphs on Indulgences from the new Catechism of the Catholic Church. Today we complete Indulgences with one last look by looking back to the old, but still very pertinent Baltimore Catechism as we conclude our brief series on Indulgences and the Sacrament of Penance. The answers provided in the old Catechism parallel the answers in the newer Catechism and confirm that nothing has truly changed regarding Indulgences except the fact excess ones have been eliminated as necessary. Medjugorje Monthly Message for January 25th
PROVERB OF THE DAY"The teaching of the wise is a fountain of life, that a man may avoid the snares of death." Proverbs 13: 14
Dear children! Today again I call all of you to prayer. Only with prayer, dear children, will your heart change, become better, and be more sensitive to the Word of God. Little children, do not permit satan to pull you apart and to do with you what he wants. I call you to be responsible and determined and to consecrate each day to God in prayer. May Holy Mass, little children, not be a habit for you, but life. By living Holy Mass each day, you will feel the need for holiness and you will grow in holiness. I am close to you and intercede before God for each of you, so that He may give you strength to change your heart. Thank you for having responded to my call! For more on Medjugorje, MEDJUGORJE

Indicating that Iran is intent on improving relations not only with the hated "satan" in the United States as well as Christians, this Moslem nation's foreign minister made inroads to re-establishing cordial and cooperative relations with the Holy See this week when Kamal Kharrazi met with the Holy Father in private talks. Big Trouble in a China which belittles the faith by curtailing priests and bishops
Contrary to China's insistence that they are being more lenient in allowing religious freedom, evidence has surfaced that things are just the opposite and that those priests and bishops who are loyal to Rome are being detained and restricted because they choose to serve God rather than the premier of China and his atheistic anti-Catholic regime. Holy Father lauds martyred priest
Cuban dictator Fidel Castro lost little time in taking to the airwaves for four full hours to praise the Cuban people for "being loyal to him" and acting as model citizens during the Holy Father's historic visit there ten days ago. He also used the television medium to lash out in no unspoken terms at those who want to aid Cuba as having an agenda which is out to humiliate him and his people. Castro's tirade to read more.
