Section One - Monday Features
Good Morning,
Class, and thank you
St. Charles!
Today Catechists everywhere are
celebrating the feast of their patron saint
Saint Charles Borromeo. His story and
the readings for today and tomorrow's
Mass can be found in the LITURGY section of this edition.
Catechism must begin at an early age
While CCD teachers strive to fulfill all he began, the rest
of us pray that God's Will will be fulfilled in re-educating
the lukewarm Catholics as to what the Church truly
teaches. We also honor St. Charles by highlighing
"Catechesis to the youth." Click on Catechism

The significance of this day in history
While we hear of countless rumors of war on the
horizon in the mideast, we're reminded that
eighteen years ago today Iranian militants took 62
hostages at the United States Embassy in Tehran.
On the lighter side, today would have been
Abraham LIncoln's 155th anniversary of his
marriage to Mary Todd. Faithfulness is such a
valuable commodity today that is shunned by so
many. We doubt if ol' honest Abe and Mary were
alive today they would have let Clinton sleep in the
Lincoln bedroom! We also feel quite assured "Mr.
Penny" were president today there would be no
abortion and this country would be morally on the
right path, for he always called on the Almighty for
all decisions. ...Still on the lighter side: Since for
many tomorrow is a fast day, stock up food today.
We might suggest an inexpensive and protein-filled
menu - peanut butter. After all, it was 102 years
ago today that the patent for this gummy, gooey
treat was submitted. Speaking of gummy, we hope
we're getting all the gum out of the works for a
smoother running DAILY CATHOLIC. We are
working around the clock to identify all
problems and clarify them so everything will
run smoothly. If you run into a problem, just
drop us a note on the e-line at
CATHOLIC-INTERNET NETWORK
webmaster. This way we can respond
faster to any problems we may not be
aware of. We test the pages out on both
Netscape 4.0 and Explorer 4.0. Also, if
there is something that you'd like to see on
these pages...or don't want to see as much
of, let us know also at DAILY CATHOLIC

the ease you'll have in just clicking on the

This should not take any more than twelve
pages and usually less if your font is set in
smaller case. You may also print each
page as you view it by following printing
instructions on each page.
PRAYER & DEVOTION
The Prayer for today is taken from the Ambrosian
missal as the Preface for today's feast of Saint
Charles Borromeo:
Today we wish to praise You as we recall our
saintly bishop Charles, who glorified You by
his eminent virtues. You gave him to the
Church as a solicitous shepherd who was a
shining light in the darkness of the world
and, inflamed with ardent charity, was for
your flock a mirror of life and a model of
justice. He led to You the people entrusted to
his care and in moments of difficulty he was
able to sustain his people with dedicated
love.

Crusading for the Church
The Crusades are glorified today, but
for those living in those medieval time, it
was anything but glorious. Bloody and
bowed they gave their all for Christ. In
the forty sixth installment of our
acclaimed on-going series on THE
HISTORY OF THE MASS AND HOLY
MOTHER CHURCH we detail the
travails the 167th pontiff suffered through in
launching the fateful Second Crusade. Click on Pope

The American head of the

passed out a back-sided

yesterday from his

applauded the Pope's strong
condemnation of
anti-Semitism as a grave

Here we go again! Now we

Canada none make sense in
the order of logic and life. In

Will there or
won't there be a
Consistory this
year?
The much-anticipated
Consistory may be off the
board in Las Vegas, but in
Church circles the odds are
very much alive as "Vatican
watchdogs" wage their
opinions on when the Pope
will officially call the
Consistory, the first in three
years, and who will be
selected. Speculation is
running amok as they watch
the Holy Father's every move,
trying to stay a step ahead of
his thinking. Click on Odds to
