Our only Hope to turn hardened, stubborn hearts away from the culture of death!

How fitting that the liturgical colors throughout this weekend are red, symbolic of martyrs for those who are touched by the Holy Spirit, the Sanctifier - are set apart from the world and the Gospel of John best explains this. The theological brilliance laid out in the beloved apostle's writing conveys the essence of the Savior Jesus Christ and it imparts to us all why we must never give up the fight to oppose abortion with every fiber of our being.

With today's issue we complete the long and sorry list of "Herod's Heroes." Hours on end of research have finally been completed. They have taken their toll physically for this editor, but imagine the toll these 72 have taken on the innocent preborn. That alone spurred me to finish despite a pinched nerve that has practically paralyzed my left side. But for the unborn, for standing behind the absolutes of our Faith that demand we fight the culture of death, I'll wage war till my last breath. At least I have that opportunity. Well over 40 million preborns didn't. And that's just the official figures. Think about how many will be aborted by this horrific abortion pill that is so suavely being advertised in slick magazines as something to take as if one had a cold. Gruesome. We have indeed become a barbaric nation.

This list of 72 influential men and women is a who's who of today's powerful politicians. These 72 claim to be Roman Catholic, yet by their actions and words belie that. Elected by the people to uphold the Constitution and the Laws, they have betrayed not only the trust of those who elected them, but the trust of God. Remember, they took an oath before God when they put their hands on the Holy Bible. Does that oath mean nothing? Evidently so. Do God's Laws mean nothing? Evidently so.

Here are 72, five governors, 54 in the House and 13 in the Senate who could make the world of difference for millions, no make that billions of souls - both born and unborn. In a perfect world 67 votes would easily swing the pendulum to the culture of life. Roe vs. Wade would be overturned soon with the approval of Supreme Court justices who would endeavor to uphold all of God's Laws as well as the Constititution and the promise of our founding fathers of "the right to life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness." But this is not a perfect world, far, far from it. Yet, just a few on this list, especially in the Senate, could make such a difference. But they seem to place more credence on the cry of the French Revolution, "liberty, equality and fraternity." Political expediency trumps God and damn the rest.

That word "damn" is a damnable word, it is so final, so hopelesss. Yet, these 72 think nothing of playing god by damning lives before they can take one breath of finite air. Do they not realize they will not live forever? Do they not realize there will come a time when they will have to approach the Almighty Judge and there before them the Book will be laid out. Imagine the shock and horror that will engulf them when they realize the millions of unborn whose blood is on their hands. Imagine their chagrin at how many more millions of souls they will have to take responsibility for in leading astray.

I am reminded of Our Lord's words in John 15: 22, "If I had not come and spoken to them, they would have no sin. But now they have no excuse for their sin." No excuse!!! Why can't they see this? Why can't they realize Christ's haunting words in Matthew 16: 24-27? "If anyone wishes to come after Me, let him deny himself, and take up his cross, and follow Me. For he who would save his life will lose it; but he who loses his life for My sake will find it. For what does it profit a man, if he gain the whole world, but suffer the loss of his own soul? Or what will a man give in exchange for his soul? For the Son of Man is to come with His angels in the glory of His Father, and then He will render to everyone according to his conduct."

There is so much consternation right now being raised about Church and State and the display of the Ten Commandments in various public places. Perhaps with the Ten Commandments that passage from Matthew should be plastered in every political chamber and every chancery as well.

I say the latter because we have written three Open Letters to the Bishops, beginning on Ash Wednesday when we began this long campaign to expose the so-called 'Catholic' politicians who have so contributed to the culture of death - something roundly condemned by Pope John Paul II innumerable times - in backing up Catholic doctrine. Yet the silence has been deafening! Except for a few who are not afraid to speak out and do something (Archbishop Charles Chaput, OFM Cap. comes to mind as such a shepherd), the vast majority hide behind the document issued by the National Conference of Catholic Bishops - "Living the Gospel of Life." Words! If they do not enforce what they say, do not exact the disciplines, how can it have any clout?

We have identified each bishop directly responsible for alerting the respective violaters. They have been contacted by innumerable people for each prelate's address, phone numbers and often times an e-mail were always published along with the violater's address, phone numbers and e-mail. Always, while we abhor the sin, we love the sinner and in love asked them to realize the great error of their ways, for readers to contact them and, in love, ask them to repent of this sin that cries out to Heaven for vengeance.

We have endeavored to fulfill Christ's recommendations on fraternal correction He laid down in Matthew 18: 10-18 in seeking to help the lost sheep to return to the fold. Our Lord says in verse 16, "And if he refuses to hear them, appeal to the Church, but if he refuse to hear even the Church, let him be to thee a heathen and the publican." A heathen means no longer Catholic. Canon Law states this clearly in Can. 1397 and 1398 in Title VI: "Offenses against human life and freedom" in the section of "Sanctions in the Church." It reads in part:

    Can. 1397 - One who commits homicide or who fraudulently or forcibly kidnaps, detains, mutilates or seriously wounds a person is to be punished with the deprivations and prohibitions mentioned in can. 1336 in accord with the seriousness of the offense;
Now do these so-called 'Catholic' politicians not fraudulently detain, mutilate and seriously wound persons in the womb by legislating and promoting abortion? Of course they do. They are willing accomplices and therefore as guilty of the sin as the abortionist or the woman obtaining an abortion. What then is their consequence in respect to what the Church teaches? Can. 1398 answers that very clearly:
Can. 1398 - A person who procures a successful abortion incurs an automatic (latae sententiae) excommunication.
All we have been asking throughout these past 95 days is that the bishops will make this known. You see, by their silence they have allowed scandal to continue. Do they not realize Christ's strong meaning in Matthew 18: 6-7? "But whoever causes one of these little ones who believe in Me to sin, it were better for him to have a great millstone hung around his neck, and to be drowned in the depths of the sea. Woe to the world because of scandals! For it must needs be that scandals come, but woe to the man through whom scandal does come!"

Consider how many Catholics continue to actually think abortion is justified, that a woman has the choice to murder her own flesh and blood for her convenience. It's called the right to choice. Why do you think such heresy is so widespread? Why do you think they continue to elect pro-abort 'Catholics'? Could it possibly be because the bishops have not made it known, first to the offending politician, and then to their flocks - in no uncertain terms - that those who legislate, support, vote for or enable in anyway a murder are accomplises to murder and therefore, in the eyes of God, not only guilty of the sin but, by their refusal to repent, have incurred self-excommunication (latae sententiae)?

Do you think that would make a difference? We sure do! So does Cardinal Norberto Rivera Carrera of Mexico City who has made this known to his flocks. If more bishops had the guts to stand up and be counted, to forget political expediency, political correctness, to refuse to cooperate with the culture of death agenda in any way, shape or form, countless Catholics would awake from their lukewarm slumber and realize the Church meant business, realize their own souls were in jeopardy if they continued on the course they themselves were on. Oh, there'd be quite a few who would ignore the Church, ignore the mandate and embrace the world. This is a sad fact of reality. But there would be so many more sheep who would hear their shepherds and respond obediently. As we have said so often, if just a few of those politicians repented, it would turn the table against the culture of death. Why have the bishops waited, why have they been so silent. What has happened to enforcing disciplines?

It is so eerily similar to the silent treatment given Humanae Vitae. While the bishops fiddled, souls burned and the culture of death gained ground, morals were rejected and we have the morass we have today because we ignored the absolutes and rationalized sin. Notice that the bishops - especially Cardinal Roger Mahony and Cardinal Bernard Law, who, between them, have the greatest number of pro-abort politicians in their sees - are quick to speak out forcibly against the death penalty - something Church teaching does not officially condemn - but they're slow to react against something the Church officially condemns. Hmm. Could it be political correctness? Could it be fear?

As we have confirmed before, Father Peter West, a valiant crusader for the Sanctity of Life and a key member of Father Frank Pavone's Priests for Life organization, says "the bishops are afraid they'll be persecuted." As I have said over and over, we are indeed in a sad state of affairs when the successors of the Apostles are afraid of taking up their cross, afraid to speak out and to back the teachings of the Church, especially over something that is so absolute - the murder of the innocent preborns. Therefore, what good will a fourth Open Letter to the Bishops do? If three haven't worked, will a fourth? No, there is only one way to reach the prelates of the Church now for they are more concerned about sensitivities to other faiths, other ideologies, other beliefs. They are afraid to hurt the sensibilities of the sodomites, the enablers of the Holocaust in the Womb, the feminists, the modernist progressives, the radical liturgists, the heretic theologians in 'Catholic' universities, the Democratic party, and every other politically correct - but not Catholic-correct - group out there in order to "co-exist."

They seem to have forgotten the sacerdotal oath they also took and that they are to be in the world, but not of the world and strive for personal holiness, not personal popularity or political correctness. That impression of what a holy bishop should be can sadly only be equated to but a few of our shepherds today. And so, there is only one avenue left to reach these stubborn men of the cloth, men who, as successors of the Apostles, have acted more like those followers who cowered and hid in the city while Christ hung on the cross. Only John was brave enough to join Blessed Mary and Mary Magdalene, bold enough to stand up and be counted. The rest? They had to wait until that glorious day when the promised Spirit would alight in their hearts and souls on Pentecost Sunday. Jesus says in Luke 11: 13, "Therefore, if you, evil as you are, know how to give good gifts to your children, how much more will your Heavenly Father give the Good Spirit to those who ask Him!" Therefore, I conclude this commentary with a heartfelt prayer, a plea to the Advocate to enlighten and inspire, to touch the modern hearts of our prelates for the sake of billions of souls.

O Holy Spirit, third Person of the Blessed Trinity, Spirit of truth, love, and holiness, we pray Your consuming fire will set the bishops ablaze with Your Seven Gifts that will foster Your Twelve Fruits.

We pray and plea that You imbue them with Wisdom that they will seek first and foremost God and seek to convey that to all their flocks; that they will recognize the emptiness of earthly things and that they will reintroduce Catholics to the importance of spiritual matters above all else, and the importance of mortification in fine tuning souls to seek God and overcome temptations.

We pray and plea that You touch their minds with Understanding that they may know the absolutes of the True Faith and make them truly known; to enable all to recognize true Catholic teaching, and to detect false doctrines.

We pray and plea that You enlighten their hearts with the Gift of Counsel that they will be both prudent and courageous; courageous enough to let all know those truths which are absolute cannot be left to conscience; that our prelates will trust in Christ's words in Luke 12: 11 being assured not to worry for the Holy Spirit will guide them.

We pray and plea that You give them the Gift of Fortitude so that they may go boldly forth in these dire times of trouble and adversity and fear not man, nor repercussions of their actions in the face of political correctness when they announce to all the firm sentence of latae sententiae and outline exactly who incurs such and why.

We pray and plea that You infuse in them the Gift of Knowledge so they will know and impart to their flocks the definitive difference between good and evil, between choose life and choice, between absolutes and ambiguities; that they might have clear vision and firmness of decision in emulating those who went before them in upholding all the One, Holy, Catholic and Apostolic Church teaches. There is no need to be erudite, no need to know everything about all things, only to have the humility to learn and to convey the simple truths in the best and simplest way that will not confuse, will not complicate, will not allow for ambiguities that only empower Your adversary.

We pray and plea that You alight their souls with the Gift of Piety so they will have the courage of their convictions in striving to live as holy bishops and thus set the example for seeking sanctity among their flocks; that they will always preach the truth and always practice what they preach. With this Pentecost empower them to do Your Will only, not man's will.

We pray and plea that You impart to them the Gift of Holy Fear that our shepherds and their flocks, including those who claim to be Catholic but offend You so by enabling the culture of death, will flee from sin and seek to eradicate it from their own lives no matter the temporal costs; that all will give You, the Father and the Son all reverence due the Most Blessed Trinity and instill in all a respect for the absolute truths and disciplines of the Church You guide.

With these Gifts infused in their hearts, the Fruits of the Holy Ghost will be plentiful. It is now the only answer to stopping the great Holocaust of the Womb. For through the gifts, which enable our shepherds to follow Your perfect inspirations, more will be infused and the virutes and fruits will blossom because reason directs it.

You, Third Person of the Triune Divinity, are the dispenser of the Graces the Second Person of the Trinity has obtained for all through His infinite merits by the Will of the First Person of the Blessed Trinity - the Heavenly Father. You, O Divine Spirit, perfect the works of Christ just as the sun develops and nurtures what has been sown. Make our shepherds, and from them the flocks, bloom and bear fruit. You alone can effect this. You are the Gift the Son has given us - He who said to the Father in John 17: 14-15, "I have given them Thy word; and the world has hated them, because they are not of the world, even as I am not of the world. I do not pray that Thou take them out of the world, but that Thou keep them from evil."

Keep all Your children from evil by imbuing Your shepherds with the convictions of the unchangeable truths You gave the Apostles on the first Pentecost so that souls, in the state of sanctifying grace, will possess sanctity and be in a state of Christian perfection as You will. Inspire in all the fervent surrender of self to God where the practice of virtue will be widespread.

We pray and plea, come, Holy Spirit, fill the hearts of Your faithful, enkindle in them the fire of Your Love. Send forth Your Spirit and they shall be created; and You shall renew the face of the earth. You are our only Hope to turn hardened, stubborn hearts away from the culture of death!
