Lion of Scripture:
Today is the Feast of the Evangelist Saint Mark, symbolized by the Lion and his account comes from his close association with Saint Peter who converted Mark and kept him at his side, impressing on Mark the spiritual kingdom Jesus had come to establish, not temporal. St. Mark's body lies in St. Mark's Basilica in Venice, Italy. Tomorrow we return to Easter Weekday. For today and tomorrow's liturgies, see DAILY LITURGY
SAINT MARK THE EVANGELIST
"Go into the whole world and preach the Gospel to every creature. He who believes and is baptized shall be saved, but he who does not believe shall be condemned." Mark 16: 15-16
There is no greater Mercy than the confessional!
"Ask and it shall be given you; seek, and you shall find; knock, and it shall be opened to you. For everyone who asks, receives; and he who seeks, finds; and to him who knocks, it shall be opened" (Matthew 7: 7-8, Luke 11: 9).
The confessional is the door to His Mercy which flows in abundant graces through absolution of our sins in order to receive all that He has for us.
In her inspirational column today, Cyndi Cain pinpoints what Divine Mercy truly means for there is nothing more merciful God could give us on this earth than the opportunity to wipe away our sins, to inherit the overflowing fountains of His Mercy through the Sacrament of Reconciliation. While we celebrated the new Feast of Divine Mercy this past Sunday, she asks how many thought of that. His Mercy is there for the asking, all we need do is use the means He has given us to unlock the graces as Christ affirms in the Gospels and as the Apostle John confirms in Apocalypse/Revelation 3: 20-22. Because of the pending bill in the House today to protect the unborn from acts of violence, Cyndi's column was moved to Dr. Frank Joseph's today. Dr. Joseph's urgent column ran yesterday and can be viewed at Pro Life Prescriptions. For Cyndi's column today entitled Confession: Doorway to Divine Mercy , see SYMPHONY OF SUFFERING
To verify we are living in a time unprecedented in the Church, look how a synthetically created liturgy has replaced and changed the unchangeable Mass!
"The devolution of important liturgical decision-making from Rome to the local churches proved to be a disaster for reverence in worship and for the integrity of the Faith. It led liturgical and doctrinal revolutionaries into viewing themselves as autonomous from Rome, which was seen as a perfunctory "clearinghouse" as one experiment after another was foisted upon the unsuspecting faithful during the celebration of the Holy Sacrifice of the Mass. "
In today's issue Thomas A. Droleskey, Ph.D. brings us the tenth part of his fascinating, logical, factual and frank treatise on ferreting out the doublespeak and contradictions contained in the General Instruction to the Roman Missal (GIRM) which has confused so many and, instead of clearing up abuses, only is a license to experiment some more, all contributing to the continuing deconstruction of the Holy Sacrifice of the Mass that sustained the Church and her faithful for some 1,500 years. For his column, Devolution devoid of direction see CHRIST or chaos
How do we balance truth and compassion without compromising one or the other?
"A failure in compassion is essentially
false witness against our neighbor,
because such a failure eclipses the infinite tenderness and mercy of the
Lord. At the same time, to withhold truth is to fail in compassion. It is to
fail to meet a human need which is as real as food and shelter. Truth nourishes. Truth sets us free. A witness to
truth truly ministers to his brothers and sisters."
Today, Father Frank Pavoneresponds to the question so many ask, "Why are our priests and bishops don't speak out more." Though the issue is one with many layers, Father begins to skim the surface in touching on the fine balance between two important elements of grace - truth and compassion. They are both essential in administering to the sinner. Jesus was compassionate and truthful at all times. When He forgave the harlot, He did not say, "You are forgiven. Go" - but rather "Go thy way, and from now on sin no more" (John 8: 11). It is that last part that so many are afraid to stand up and say. "Sin no more." That takes both compassion and truth. For his column, Compassion and Truth, see Father Frank Pavone's Column
Archbishop Rembert Weakland: We implore you to call Wisconsin Congressman Thomas Barrett to task for his sorrowful pro-abort stance.
Today's "Herod's Hero" is the Democratic Representative in the United States House from Wisconsin's 5th District, the Honorable Thomas Barrett. There's nothing honorable about how he, as a 'Catholic,' has promoted the culture of death. We call on him to repent and for his archbishop in Milwaukee Archbishop Rembert G. Weakland, O.S.B. along with Barrett's shepherd in Washington D.C. Cardinal Theodore McCarrick, to issue the ultimatum of the "Bell, Book, and Candle" if he will not hear even the Church. We beg of the Bishops, to stand up for the Roman Catholic Church, to exact the discipline all Catholics are expected to follow. By Barrett's pitiful 95% pro-abortion record during his three terms in the House, he has turned away from God by showing a disdain for Catholic doctrine and being a willing accomplice to satan. We implore him to amend his ways, to turn away from embracing the pro-abort stance with no mercy for the lives of millions of unborn. For another betrayer who seeks to perpetuate the culture of death and slay the innocents, see HEROD'S HEROES

California closing in on Sodom and Gomorrah!
Where are the California bishops at a time when they're needed? Hiding in their ivory towers?
To show you the depths the Church has sunk in California consider this: The California Catholic Conference of Bishops have made no known opposition to a bill authored by lesbian
assemblywoman Jackie Goldberg. The bill in question being introduced TODAY would redefine sex to include a third category of "gender" which is something other than sex at birth, like
transgender, transvestites, cross-dressers, drag queens, etc. It would
force employers to allow any individual to dress in a manner they see fit
or perceive their gender to be and force Catholic and Christian businessmen
to hire such individuals contrary to their deeply held religious beliefs. We agree with Gary Morella that something like this is unfathomable to us as Roman Catholics. But if you live in California and have seen how pathetic our bishops respond, you're not surprised. Nevertheless, we join Gary in formally asking the California Catholic Conference to take a "Full Opposition" (FO) position on this bill. We know for a fact they've been tracking it, yet have said nothing so far. Like Gary, we are further requesting that the Conference, as the political action and lobbying arm of the California Catholic bishops, speak out forcefully and publicly against bills that seek to legitimize radical sexual behaviors through the inclusion of "gender" in
public policies. It is a crying shame it has even come this far, thanks to the silence and inaction of the bishops.

Birth of a saintly ruler whose staff was the Cross
On this date 787 years ago in 1214 Saint Louis IX was born to King Louis VIII and his holy mother Blanche of Castile. Young Louis would become the King of France at the age of 12 and rule for 44 years, going down as one of the greatest monarchs ever. He played a key role in the affairs of Holy Mother Church during the turbulent thirteenth century and died from typhus in Tunisia on August 24, 1270 during the Crusades with his son at his side as he muttered his last breath, "I will enter your house; I will worship at your holy temple" these words from Psalm 5: 8 and the last words he spoke before expiring were "Into Thy hands I commend my soul."

Being politically correct is not charity!
"It is quite generally taken for granted that the way to be popular is to say things you do not mean, or to draw a veil between your mind and your lips, or divorce thoughts from actions. Their lips then carry honeyed speech; their hands carry stilettos are for others' backs."
