  • Pope John Paul II travels to Nigeria where he beatifies the first native-born Nigerian saint Blessed Father Cyprian Michael Tansi, the same holy missionary who baptized Nigeria's Cardinal Francis Arinze.

  • Pope John Paul II travels to Bethlehem where he celebrates a Papal Mass in Manger Square, then spends some quiet time at the Grotto of the Nativity before visiting a refugee camp and meeting with Yassir Arafat during the Pope's third day in the Holy Land on his historic "Jubilee Journey."
