  • Pope John Paul II arrives in Jordan, celebrates his first Papal Mass in the Holy Land in Amman. He visits the place Jordanians claim Our Lord was baptized by Saint John the Baptist and later the same day flies from Amman to Tel Aviv and then is helicoptered to Jerusalem where he is met by the highest officials of Israel in welcome.
