Senator Mary Landrieu
Louisiana

This series, appropriately titled "Herod's Heroes," is intended to separate the wheat from the chaff by revealing those men and women, for whom we have voted, and who are not upholding the ideals God expects of His children. We cannot condone sin, and they are promoting the most vile of sin by being accomplices to the slaughter of millions of innocents in the womb. That is why, like the Judean king of Christ's time, who, out of political expediency and jealousy, tried to eliminate the Messiah by killing the first-born of every family, so also they are helping satan in killing God's precious ones sacrificed at the altar of the convenience of modern life. These "Herod's Heroes" are under the totally false misconception that a woman has the right to do with her body as she wants. Wrong! It is not hers, but rather God's. The body we have is merely a shell to hold our soul. The soul is forever; the body, as we are reminded on Ash Wednesday, will return to dust. Christ has said in Matthew 10: 28, "Do not be afraid of those who kill the body but cannot kill the soul. But rather be afraid of him who is able to destroy both soul and body in hell."

Actually eleventh on the list of "Herod's Heroes" in the Senate is the Democratic senator from Louisiana Senator Mary Landrieu-Snellings. As an ally of satan through her uncompromising pro-abortion stance, she is enabling lucifer to "destroy both soul and body in hell." Through her actions she has become an enemy of God and the Roman Catholic Church. This is not a political statement on Landrieu, but rather a moral statement. One she and her bishops should take very, very seriously.

Politicis and Catholicism runs in her family. She was raised in the Catholic culture of New Orleans. Her father was the high-profile Moon Landrieu, former mayor of the Crescent City. Something happened to Mary in the "Big Easy" in seeking an easier agenda. For some reason she has foresaken the strict disciplines of her Catholic upbringing in favor of the political expediency of the Democratic Party. Born in 1955, she is the oldest of nine children belonging to Moon and her mother Verna. That sounds like a faithful Catholic family who truly cherished the Sanctity of Life by having many children. Would Mary have denied her own brothers and sisters the right to be born were she in office before they were born? Though she was raised in the post-Vatican II religious education programs, she still has to remember her roots one would think. She has to realize the goodness and virtues of the saints and the woman whom she was named for - the Blessed Virgin Mary. Yet she has evidently sold out to the political correctness of the feminist left, forgetting that true feminism is exemplified in the Mother of God through humility and obedience to God's Holy Will as she instructed in John 2: 5, "Do whatever He tells you."

Yet, through Senator Landrieu's action and record, she has shown in her brief four-years in the Senate a disdain for the teachings of the Catholic Church and the Church's mandate of upholding life in all stages by her promotion, votes and legislation of pro-abortion measures that empower the culture of death. She will have to answer to God for these transgressions against Christ's innocent ones as Jesus says in today's Gospel in Matthew 25: 45, "'Amen I say to you, as long as you did not do it for one of these least ones, you did not do it for Me.' And these will go into everlasting punishment, but the just into everlasting life."

We ask Mary Landrieu-Snellings to repent of her ways, help turn the Democratic Party away from the culture of death and the immoral organization it has become under the evil leadership of Bill Clinton. We ask her to help bring the Party back to the glory days when the Party stood for decency and right. She stands for many good things. She writes that "Building families through adoption is a blessing for all. Children cannot raise themselves. Every child needs at least one caring adult in their life, but preferably two stable, loving parents." And those parents have a right and a duty before God to procreate children. She should foster this as part of her creed, extolling her Catholic beliefs that life begins at the moment of conception. But the Party she is part of is paid too much by the pro-abort factions that they and she are prisoners of in the culture of death. Today the Democratic Party is so far Left that its members, who continue to promote abortion - murder in the womb, could very well be left out at the Heavenly gates when their time comes.

Is Senator Landrieu truly aware of that? We call on all to help her see the grave error of her ways and we call on her archbishop in New Orleans and in Washington D.C. to take firm, responsible action to assure that if she continues to persist in the sin, she will be banished from the Church for remaining a Catholic while carrying on the sin with no sign of repentance. To allow her to continue to perpetuate the sin is a slap in God's and His Church's face. As we wrote in our Ash Wednesday OPEN LETTER TO THE BISHOPS OF AMERICA and a week later in It's up to you. Left or Right?, we respectfully, but strongly recommend this time of Lent and Easter as a time for the bishops to extend the warning - a time of Mercy - for these wayward 'Catholics' who promote abortion to repent of their ways. If they stubbornly refuse, then after Pentecost Sunday it's time to take action and dismiss them as apostates. Do you really want that, Senator Landrieu?

You can e-mail Senator Landrieu and, in love, ask her yourself. Beg her to repent of her ways. Remind her what Jesus asserts in Matthew 16: 26-27, "For what does it profit a man, if he gain the whole world, but suffer the loss of his own soul? Or what will a man give in exchange for his soul? For the Son of Man is to come with His angels in the glory of His Father, and then He will render to everyone according to his conduct." Is her political career more important than the welfare of her soul? Ask her. You can reach her e-mail at: www.senate.gov/~landrieu/newsite/webform.html Note: scroll to "Women's Issues" to bring the subject matter to her attention and write in your comments.

We call on the bishop whose jurisdiction governs Landrieu's residence in New Orleans Archbishop Francis B. Schulte, along with Landrieu's governing prelate in the nation's capitol Cardinal Theodore McCarrick, Archbishop of Washington D.C. to jointly issue a mandate to Senator Landrieu that if she persists after Pentecost Sunday she will be EXCOMMUNICATED. We also call on the new Coadjutor of New Orleans Bishop Alfred C. Hughes, former Bishop of Baton Rouge, state capitol of Louisiana where Senator also has a n office. These bishops have a duty before God, a duty to their flock to extend mercy through the grace-period of Lent and Easter Season leading up to Pentecost. If no action is taken or if there is and Senator Landrieu refuses to heed the Church, then let her be an anathema.

Like the prodigal son, we will gladly welcome her back and be proud to number her as a loyal Catholic - as a Paul who once was Saul. Does Senator Landrieu really want her legacy in eternity to be that she was one of "Herod's Heroes?" With all the good that she has accomplished through her career since 1979 when she was elected to the Louisiana House of Representatives, why have it blotted out by the evil that she has done? We pray her heart will be touched and she will return to the fold. But if she refuses, if she ignores God's commands, then so be it. She has sold her soul to the devil and Christ has made it very clear in Matthew 19: 15-18 of how to treat one who turns their back on His teachings.

Our bishops MUST follow Our Lord's teachings, they MUST stand up for Christ and His Church. They MUST not only speak out without reservation, but they MUST issue the ultimatum to these pro-abort politicians who bring so much scandal to the Church by continuing to call themselves 'Catholic.' If, by Pentecost Sunday, Senator Landrieu refuses to repent, then she must be notified that she has interdicted herself by her actions, incurred automatic suspension (latae sententiae), and thus has been EXCOMMUNICATED! (cf. Canon Law 1329, 2; 1397 and 1398).
