Pope's Intentions for June

The Holy Father's General Intention for June 2001 are To make the Eucharistic Christ our activity's source and goal. This is the month of the Sacred and Immaculate Hearts and the Holy Eucharist and devotion to the Immaculate Heart of Mary are the Two Pillars of strength that serve as our Beacon, guiding us over the rough, typhoon-like seas of these times. The Pope's Missionary intention for June is for the Church in Southeast Asia and the Opportunity for Vietnamese Catholics to forward their country's development without compromising their Faith in the face of opposition by the communist regime in place.

Novena in preparation for Pentecost

In preparation for the celebration of the Descent of the Holy Spirit on Pentecost Sunday next Sunday, the "Birthday" of the Church, we provide a Nine-Day Novena to help you prepare and call upon the Advocate, the Sanctifier for strength and the Seven Gifts of the Holy Spirit. For the Novena, see NOVENA
Solemnity of Pentecost

The Solemn Feast of Pentecost is regarded as the "Birthday of the Church" for the Holy Spirit began His perpetual presence with Holy Mother Church at this occasion recorded in the Acts of the Apostles. In Acts 2:38, Saint Peter reminds us of this new Covenant when he says, "You must reform and be baptized, each one of you, in the name of Jesus Christ, that your sins may be forgiven; then you will receive the gift of the Holy Spirit." The passages in 1 Corinthians 3: 16; 6: 9-20, Romans 5:5; 8: 26-27; and 2 Thessalonians 2: 13-14 show us how it is only through the Holy Spirit that we can profit by and fulfill the necessary duties that pave the way to salvation in the Church. The name Pentecost is derived from the fact that it is celebrated 50 days after Easter, ten days after the Ascension. Originally the name, whose etimology comes from the Greek pentekoste, was attributed to the Jewish Feast of Weeks which occurred 50 days after the Passover. With the New Covenant Pentecost was forever associated with the Descent of the Holy Spirit in Christ's chosen Church.

"These things I have spoken to you while yet dwelling with you. But the Advocate, the Holy Spirit, Whom the Father will send in My name, He will teach you all things, and bring to your mind whatever I have said to you." John 14: 25-26

Come,
Holy Spirit

Only the Advocate can help now! We've done all we can, it's in God's hands to move our bishops to fully embrace the Sanctity of Life with every fiber of their being.

In our commentary today, we conclude the long list of "Herod's Heroes" begun on Ash Wednesday. We point out that three Open Letters to the Bishops have not moved them to action and so we pray that the only possibility of getting them off the snide and doing their duty as Roman Catholic prelates is to call on the Sanctifier - the Holy Spirit. He can do wonders. Look at what He did on Pentecost Sunday 1,968 years ago! We can only hope and pray He will touch the hardened, stubborn and too-comfortable hearts of many bishops and those pro-abort politicians who call themselves Catholic. For our editorial and "Open Letter (prayer) to the Holy Spirit" see Our only Hope to turn hardened, stubborn hearts away from the culture of death! in CATHOLIC PewPOINT

Bishop Robert Mulvee: We implore you to call Rhode Island Congressman Patrick Kennedy to task for his unyielding and scandalous pro-abort stance.

Today's Herod's Hero is the Democratic Representative in the United States House from Rhode Island's 1st District, the Honorable Patrick J. Kennedy. There's nothing honorable about how he, as a 'Catholic,' has promoted the culture of death. We call on him to repent and for his Bishop in Providence Bishop Robert E. Mulvee along with Kennedy's shepherd in Washington D.C. Cardinal Theodore McCarrick, to issue the ultimatum of the "Bell, Book, and Candle" if he will not hear even the Church. We beg of the Bishops, to stand up for the Roman Catholic Church, to exact the discipline all Catholics are expected to follow. By Kennedy's sorrowful 97% pro-abortion record during 4 terms in the House, he has shown an alarming consistency to turn away from God by showing disdain for Catholic doctrine and being a willing accomplice to satan. We implore Mr. Kennedy to amend his ways, to turn away from embracing the pro-abort stance with no mercy for the lives of millions of unborn. For the final betrayer who, like the 71 before him, has sought to perpetuate the culture of death and slay the innocents, see HEROD'S HEROES

National Right to Life should mean what it stands for! But its leanings aren't exactly straight up!
"Each innocent human life is inviolable from the moment of fertilization to the time of natural death. To assert that there are exceptions to the sanctity of innocent human life, as the National Right to Life Committee does as a matter of principle, is to make a mockery of the sanctity of innocent human life. It is to say that a little bit of killing of the innocent in the right kind of circumstances is morally justified, thus making opposition to abortion conditional and relativistic. The irony is inescapable: support for abortion on demand is itself an exercise in relativism and so-called situation ethics, reducing the acceptance of innocent human life to a set of circumstances subject to the relative conditions of those involved in a decision to “terminate a pregnancy.” How can we say that we support abortion in some instances while opposing it in others? The taking of an innocent human life is either always right or always wrong. It cannot be sometimes right and sometimes wrong. That would fly in the face of the principle of non-contradiction (two mutually exclusive statements cannot both be true)."

In today's issue Thomas A. Droleskey, Ph.D. addresses another myth that has been permeated by so many who strive to be politically correct and, in so doing, thwart the very efforts of those who teach there can be no half-way measures. Either the National Right to Life Committee is totally pro-life or they are pro-abortion. There can be no fence-sitting on this issue. Yet that is exactly what this misnamed organization has done and because of that, are misleading so many, confusing even more who cannot distinguish the clear line of demarcation between the culture of life and the culture of death. For an explanation, see Dr. Droleskey's column, The National Right to Some Life Committee see CHRIST or chaos

Dear Holy Father,

In her column today, Cyndi Cain shares a personal letter she has sent to His Holiness Pope John Paul II as a loving daughter who merely seeks answers in the face of so much controversy and contradiction. As a true loyal Catholic, she asks as a humble servant why so much has changed and what is the purpose. She asks charitably where have they taken Our Lord for He has been taken from the high altar and relegated to the side, many times deposited in a room in the back or out of the way where the faithful seldom go because the importance of His Presence has been drained from the Faith. They are more intent on ever more increasingly celebrating themselves. Recent actions and words have sent up an alarm and she is very concerned and is not only allowed to, but encouraged under Canon Law to write. Since there have been no answers at lower levels she has turned to the top. When chain of command fails, as it so often does because of personal agendas or protecting their own agendas, the best thing to do is go to the highest echelon and then work down. For her letter Why, Holy Father, why have they altered so much in our beloved Church? see SYMPHONY OF SUFFERING

OPEN LETTER TO HIS HOLINESS

An Urgent Plea to Pope John Paul II, 264th Successor of Peter: Please do not change the Papacy as the modernists would want, but leave it intact as Christ instructed in Matthew 16: 17-19.

With the Extraordinary Consistory of Cardinals now completed and the evident intent of many to weaken the Papacy, we present the ninth and final part of an Urgent Plea to His Holiness Pope John Paul II not to succumb to the pressure of the progressivists and not to change the Papacy no matter how much pressure is put on him. We urge you to read this with a discerning heart this Pentecost Weekend and call upon the Holy Spirit - the Fount of Life and Fire of Love - to give you understanding as you read this respectful, but honest plea, and guide the cardinals and bishops and the Keeper of the Keys to keep intact the Primacy of Peter. This is published with permission. It was compiled by (right to left above:) Atila Sinke Guimarães, Dr. Marian Horvat, Michael J. Matt, and John Vennari. Guimarães, a Brazilian scholar, has been researching this subject matter for twenty years and knows whereof he speaks. The authors back everything up with undeniable truths in their documentation. For the conclusion of this Open Letter to His Holiness, see PLEASE PRESERVE THE PRIMACY OF PETER

Birth of a Holy Pope

One hundred and sixty-six years ago on Saturday is the anniversary of the birth of Giuseppe Melchiorre Sarto to a village postman and a seamstress in Upper Venetia, Italy. He would go on to become the holy Pope Saint Pius X, 257th successor of Peter and the Pope who made Holy Communion available to all, especially children from seven years of age up. The cloak of conscience!

"By depersonalizing evil, by making it social and not personal, conscience is eased, at least for the moment. By looking at the crime of others, we d get into a state of thinking that by comparison we cannot be so bad; aye! we may even be virtuous."
