"Woe to you, hypocrites!"

While most of President Bush's new appointees have sailed through Senate confirmations, one man remains shackled in the locks and put on exhibit in the finger-pointing stockade in the center of town. He is being shamed and mocked, spit upon and ridiculed because he sees another way; because he has an opinion that doesn't walk lock step with the liberal agenda. The hypocrites' arms are tired from throwing so many stones. They have conjured up every reason they can to condemn this man in a modern-day witch hunt. Yet, John Ashcroft perseveres. They are now reducing themselves to such name calling as "anti-Catholic." If that were true wouldn't the Bishops be speaking out? Wouldn't the Catholic press be after his hide as well?

The fact the Catholic contingent is rooting for former Senator Ashcroft should speak volumes about the fallacy of their charges. The devil is trying to deceive and confuse. Unfortunately, some Catholics and the media are allowing themselves to be duped into thinking opposing Ashcroft is a good thing. One BIG reason various people are opposed to Senator Ashcroft is his supposed, or actual, anti-Catholic stance. After all, as we've heard numerous people testify, Senator Ashcroft cannot be confirmed as Attorney General because he spoke at, and accepted an honorary degree from, Bob Jones University. A school noted for it's anti-Catholic stance.

But what is funny, rather very, very sad, is just who are making these claims: They are: People for the American Way, the National Organization for Women, the Human Rights Campaign and Planned Parenthood. In short, you can't find a more anti-Catholic bunch anywhere BUT at Bob Jones. At least Bob Jones is honest in their anti-Catholic stance. In fact, they're part of the trend that makes 'enlightened' anti-Catholicism chic!

Connected with NOW and Planned Parenthood, of course, are: the Center for Reproductive Law and Policy; the Center for Women Policy Studies; National Abortion and Reproductive Rights Action League (NARAL); National Abortion Federation; National Family Planning and Reproductive Health Association; Physicians for Reproductive Health and Choice; and Planned Parenthood Federation of America. Planned Parenthood, along with 'catholics' for a Free Choice, constantly attack the Church.

Catholic League president William Donohue commented: "The Catholic League always welcomes those who are genuinely concerned about anti-Catholicism to speak out on this important subject. But we don't like being played for a fool. Not only has Patricia Ireland (President of the National Organization of Women) never before spoken about this subject, she and her organization have contributed to anti-Catholicism. For example, she protested the visit of Pope John Paul II to the U.S. in 1993, saying, 'Women will not be silenced. We're going to keep on until the Pope stops calling U.S. Catholic feminists pagan.' Obviously, she offered no evidence for this outrageous remark, for the Pope never said it.

"NOW has joined the anti-Catholic campaign of Frances Kissling ('catholics' for Free Choice) to discredit the Vatican by subverting its permanent observer status at the U.N. It has formally attacked the Catholic Church for maintaining hospitals that do not allow abortions, holding that such hospitals should be denied public funding. In 1994, NOW held the Catholic Church responsible for the killing of an abortion doctor in Massachusetts. And so on.

"Patricia Ireland is a phony and a professed enemy of the Catholic Church. It matters not a whit that she calls herself Catholic. If she wants to oppose Senator Ashcroft, let her do so. But she should stop exploiting the issue of anti-Catholicism to advance her political agenda."

In fact, when Patricia Ireland was interviewed on CNN's "Burden of Proof", commentator Roger Cossack said the school (Bob Jones University) had banned interracial dating until recently, Ireland commented, "It's a very anti-Catholic school." NOW is a very anti-Catholic organization!!!!

The sheer hypocrisy of these people is astounding!!!!!

Firstly, when Ashcroft spoke at Bob Jones, most Americans had no idea it even existed, let alone that it held an anti-Catholic curriculum. This didn't become public knowledge until George W. Bush was tagged with the anti-Catholic label for speaking there. Why would anyone think a University would hold to the views it does? Ashcroft didn't defend the University's stance, in fact, during his campaign against the late Governor Carnahan, (who tried to use the issue as a political weapon) Ashcroft pointed out that Carnahan received campaign donations from anti-Catholic groups such as NARAL, which was (is) active in the 'See Change' effort to downgrade the Vatican's U.N. status.

But if NOW, Planned Parenthood, et al, are concerned about anti-Catholicism they don't have to look beyond their own backyard. Frances Kissling of 'catholics' for Free Choice, in a story about Catholic hospitals merging with secular health care institutions on "60 Minutes" (Dec. 10, 2000), said, "It's not like the old days. Doctors are no longer gods. Now we have bishops who are gods." Not only did she show her anti-Catholicism, but exposed "60 Minutes" as well, using her as a 'Catholic' spokesperson. In another segment on "God, Women, and Medicine" where "60 Minutes" used Kissling as an 'expert' she said, "I spent twenty years looking for a government that I could overthrow without being thrown in jail. I finally found one in the Catholic Church."

Of course, no one raised an eyebrow when the Gay-Lesbian section of "Time Out New York" magazine (January 4-11, 01) wrote that the top "Best" of the year 2000 was the death of Cardinal O'Connor!

" Cardinal John O'Connor kicks the bucket The press eulogized him as a saint, when in fact, the pious creep was a stuck-in-the-1950s, antigay menace. Good riddance!"

The gay agenda is not God's agenda, therefore it is not America's agenda. It is sinful. It is wrong. No matter what rhetoric, no matter how they spin it or twist the truth, to demand equal rights is like comparing apples and oranges. In this case the apple is indeed rotten and the worm of corruption and sodomy is trying to wriggle into the mainstream of acceptance. Unfortunately, because of this relativistic politically-correct mandate, we've been propagandized to death with more lies and deceit. "Woe to you, hypocrites!" (Matthew 23).

Of course we could go on and on, showing all the anti-Catholic bias out there in the guise of enlightened progress. One would think that if Senator Ashcroft were anti-Catholic, they'd welcome him as Attorney General! I mean, they would finally have a person in the office who would use the law to gag the Catholic Church. But their facade is being exposed and so now they're playing the 'h' card as in trying to accuse Ashcroft of being anti-gay. Did he oppose James Hormel, an open, even militant homosexual, as ambassador to the staunch Catholic country of Luxembourg? Yes, and rightly so. Ashcroft did so not because he was gay, but because his views would have been a slap in the face of the people of Luxembourg and their faith, their beliefs. Wouldn't it be prudent to oppose the appointment of a racist to be the ambassador of Nairobi or Kenya? Would it be appropriate to appoint an anti-Catholic as the ambassador to the Vatican? Of course, not. Common sense dictates this, but the liberals do not subscribe to logical thought.

Do not be fooled into believing what you hear or read about Ashcroft. How would you hold up against the wily, clever disciples of personal destruction? I can think of only one Man Who would know what to say at every instance and they killed Him on a cross. So rather than Ashcroft being portrayed as a Judas by the liberal media, in truth he could be a Paul or a Saul. Only time will tell.

I leave you with Paul's words in 2 Timothy 3: 1-7 to dwell on regarding this entire process of personal destruction, "there will come times of stress. For men will be lovers of self, lovers of money, proud, arrogant, abusive, disobedient to their parents, ungrateful, unholy, inhuman, implacable, slanderers, profligates, fierce, haters of good, treacherous, reckless, swollen with conceit, lovers of pleasure rather than lovers of God, holding the form of religion but denying the power of it. Avoid such people. For among them are those who make their way into households and capture weak women, burdened with sins and swayed by various impulses, who will listen to anybody and can never arrive at a knowledge of the truth."

They wander in a desert of destruction, "going about like a roaring lion, seeking whom they might devour" (1 Peter 5: 8). Pax Christi, Pat
